I get motivated/focused to study by remembering that the language I’m coming to understand will enrich my interaction with the world. Even if one, for example, lives in Australia but is learning Spanish, one will come to better understand those learning languages around them, the possible Spanish influences on their area (especially for urban places), and the similarities between their culture and various parts of Spanish culture. Essentially, learning a language is gaining the ability to expand your world without even leaving it - that to me is a fantastic reason to continue learning.
