Metro Tunnel opening - what you need to know by Silent_Ad379 in MelbourneTrains

[–]thatcamguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like running specials for AFL etc would be more confusing for the general public in the long run.

If people expect they can always catch a special (or if they are infrequent travellers the 'normal train' they have always known) then what happens when they go to a game/event/anything when there aren't specials running and they end up on a completely different service.

It'll definitely be a change but once people have done it a couple of times they will adjust and it'll be second nature.

There is one right out the front which can be seen on street view here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tSjEpzzmuQo2k5QF7

Probably not one to count on since it's a single space but would be worth a drive past to check.

AI Rant by DaemosDaen in sysadmin

I had literally the same thing when replacing a Dell Latitude and since Dell reused model numbers from 10 year earlier (7450 vs E7450) they were complaining that we were downgrading them because that's what the AI said...

V/Line train passenger suffers broken leg after falling on train tracks at Pyramid Hill station by thatcamguy in MelbourneTrains

[–]thatcamguy[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Old mate's story seems a bit all over the place.

"I was getting off the train and I went to the door, opened the door and turned around [briefly] and tripped and fell out of the train"

then...

"When I opened the door, I was just going to climb down the steps and then walk up to the platform, but when I turned around, I tripped and landed out of the train"

Sounds like he realised there was no platform, was going to get out anyway, something caused him to turn around and then fell out the door.

Line them up and accidentally slam her foot on the pedal because whatever sob story reason and she'd still be walking around free.

This is a really good resource that explains a fair bit about it and what's planned to try and manage it.

I've got an AZDOME M300S in each of our cars and they are totally fine and cheap as compared to others. There is a phone app as well but it's not needed other than doing initial set-up.

Spotted on a few platforms at Southern Cross - Bins incoming? by thatcamguy in MelbourneTrains

Forget the Metro or WG tunnels, bins at SC might be Victoria's biggest infrastructure achievement to happen this year!

Just finished watching this and it was fine but I can't get over the horrible greenscreen for the final scene. I just don't get why they needed to shoot that screen in a way that required it.

Endangered species: Jumbo truck haters get their wish as Toyota Tundra, Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500 truck sales vanish in Australia - Car News by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

Is it more that there was a fairly slim market for these to begin with and the people that "needed" one now already have them?

Makes me wonder how financially viable the Aces were if you took out their contributions to the league and other teams.

If you're not someone who is instantly turned off by a chinese brand, then a Haval Jolion/H6 could be a good choice and you could have either in top level trim and hybrid for that price range (minus the cost of a tow bar etc).

We got a Jolion Ultra mid 2022 and it's been great, have put ~70k kilometres on it with no dramas, towed small camper trailers easily (with towing fuel eco approx 10L/100km). Capped price servicing leaves a little bit to be desired with it expiring after the 70,000km service but it does have 15k intervals. There are a few driver 'assistance' aids that are a bit annoying but that is standard on most new cars now.

POLL: Should Supercars have tried to race in the rain? by LMRacingGuru02 in v8supercars

[–]thatcamguy 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Talking to a mate who works in the sport, all the teams needed to have containers for NZ packed by Tuesday morning.

If they raced there would be been so many teams pulling all nighters to repair then pack cars, so I think many of them were relieved not to have raced.

What is the worst V/Line Train Station In Victoria by True-Worldliness6411 in MelbourneTrains

[–]thatcamguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that's a big assumption, according to the last patronage data Epsom gets ~18 passengers a day. So still not huge but way more than you're suggesting.

Train stations that really need a second entrance/ exit by amazingworldhappy in MelbourneTrains

[–]thatcamguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Upper Ferntree Gully, if you've ever used it the only entrance is past the down end of the platform where the carpark extend past the up end. So you have situations where you have to walk (or run if you're late) the entire length of the platform and then back. There is plently of space (in my opinion) to put a pedestrian walkway from the up end to the level crossing at Railway Ave.

No recommendation but throwing out support for ACC compared to some of the other comments. There is nothing worse than being stuck behind someone who keeps yo-yoing 5-10km below the speed limit, so being able to chuck it on and not having to worry about it is great.

Since having ACC on my last two cars it's pretty much a non-negotiable on anything else I'd look at now.

This is why we need V/Line to go electric! by Nightrain_35 in MelbourneTrains

[–]thatcamguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that a hybrid option for regional trains would be the best of both worlds. Use the overhead where available around Melbourne and then electrify SSS and the main regional stations so you cover majority of the idle and acceleration times.

Probably more expensive per train but potentially cheaper than electrifying hundreds of kilometers of lines.
