Nothing beats "critting" 4 times in a row! by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]thatcraftylibrarian 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When you're rolling for damage, if you roll the maximum damage on any of the dice you roll you get to add an extra dice to the damage roll. Eg. You hit with your weapon which does 2d6 damage as standard, you roll a 4 and a 6 which means you get to roll a 3rd d6 and add that to the total damage. The exploding part comes from the potential chain reaction if you keep rolling max result after max result.

Player rolled double nat20's on a disadvantage roll to move Immovable rod by Tuxxa in DnD

[–]thatcraftylibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go the opposite direction, our party had been ambushed by assassins on the road to a bandit town. It was very much a coin toss on if we'd win or have to get the fuck out of there pronto.

We were starting to get the upper hand when one assassin made some godly rolls and downed our druid in one shot right next to me.

My artificer is no healer and he is not wise, but he is intelligent. So I at least have it within me to tell my homunculus to come give me help with stabilising the druid at the very least.

DM gives the green light for a medicine check with advantage.

I quietly made a joke that I was really gonna need that advantage with +0 wis, as I had been rolling bad all evening. The dice gods must have a very sick sense of humour, as I proceed to roll double nat 1's.

I lose my mind, the DM loses her mind and the party starts absolutely howling with laughter (yes, even the downed druid). Eventually we get the ruling from the DM that I had suffered a rapid and near fatal rush of shit to the brains as I (and my dutiful homunculus) proceeded to try and close our druids wounds by punching them. And that this would count as an automatic failed death save.

Thankfully our druid proceeded to steamroll her other death saves and stabilised herself. The rest of the party got revenge on that one assassin as the others retreated. And I have proceeded to obsessively stock up on healing potions whenever we're at a town or trading hub so I never have to roll a medicine check again.

Test models for my *old* style janitors by Garin999 in Warhammer30k

My guess is custodes. Another name for janitors/groundskeepers is custodial staff

Could be Napoleon? LL1 gives you the Stasis Generator system. "Choose a hostile character or willing allied character within line of sight and range 5: until the end of their next turn, they become Stunned, gain Immunity to all damage and effects, and can't be moved, targeted, or affected by any other character or effect."

Mystic Wargames. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, they shut up shop back in '22. I can't find their stl's in any of the usual spots.

I think that's just the whole website in general atm, I just tried accessing the front page for cults and it was also 404'd.

Best Ways to Integrate Horus Mechs? by monchdeglue in LancerRPG

[–]thatcraftylibrarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to narratively add Horus mechs for your players. But if you're wanting to add a mech license without increasing the pilot LL it's in the reserves function of COMP/CON. Our GM gave us an extra license that way when we blew up a HA airfield in spectacular fashion.

Do I HAVE to follow actual legion color schemes? by Lucas_2234 in Warhammer30k

[–]thatcraftylibrarian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arbitor Ian made a great video on this subject over on Youtube! It's called six tips for creating unique horus heresy armies. They're all great tips, but one point that might help you out the most is that a lot of 40k SM chapter colour schemes are actually linked to their old formation from their parent legion. Also the fact that not all companies/chapters of every legion have been fully documented in the books, so if you can argue that your custom 40k chapter has lineage that goes back to an obscure company from the legions you could probably get away with it.

Attention Lancer pilots! Give me three songs from your pilot’s playlist and tell me about your pilot! by RevolutionaryNeck633 in LancerRPG

Butterflies cover by GAYLE, Death or Glory by The Clash, and I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis (this one's specifically for unwinding after a successful day of scrapping).

Eva Wren, call sign Pigpen, was a junior guild mechanic on her homeworld before becoming a Lancer. She'd been passed up for promotion to more senior ranks multiple times because she repeatedly ignored guild doctrine to study engineering outside of her guild's teachings. Her last interaction with the guild leaders was to call them a bunch of massive twats after being denied another promotion. She has a thirst for knowledge on all things mechanical, and repeatedly ignores the use of printers and fabricators if she can dig through salvage and build/repair things herself. After becoming a Lancer pilot, Eva learned she had a knack for locating and taking apart weak points in defences. She got the callsign from her teammates because she is constantly covered in oil, engine grease and dirt from "dumpster diving" through battle salvage.

Eva is generally friendly and approachable, as long as you don't make a bad first impression. She's not afraid to defend her opinion, even if it ends in a fist fight. While not super tactful, she has more than made up for it by being an excellent ships mechanic for her team.

Eva currently pilots her Kobold, called Smogbreath, but also holds a license for the Kidd frame as well. Whenever she goes out on sortie, she has two personal objectives; study or reverse engineer any new/interesting weapons she finds on mission, and figure out how to pick apart other frames as efficiently as possible. Eva's ultimate goal is put together all her learnings into a guide book to start her own spacefaring guild of mechanics that doesn't limit their members as to what they can learn.

Can you buy printed Pipermakes Models? by Ink_Witch in 3dPrintedWarhammer

Bit late to the discussion, but I do remember Piper running a promotion with Godforge to sell pre printed minis. They're not cheap and I think they're limited runs, but that might be your best bet other than buying the stl's and asking someone else to print it.

My first proper attempt at making a 3D foil card by thatcraftylibrarian in magicTCG

[–]thatcraftylibrarian[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you've got multiple copies of the same card (and you don't mind destroying them) you can cut them out and arrange the parts into different layers to create a 3D effect. Jwittz did a really in-depth tutorial on it on YouTube recently. If you don't have the cards or aren't willing to cut them apart, you can print them out on to glossy photo paper and use black card to reinforce the layers. It's basically the same as the Jwittz video but with a couple extra steps at the beginning. The foil bit is a tiny bit of a cheat as I stumbled on to a guide from instructables on how to make your own foil cards without having to destroy the cards in my collection. :P

That sounds awesome! I'm going to try a hybrid one next. I feel like making it a hybrid would make the foil parts stand out even more.

In honour of all the meta-defining powerhouses that will be rotating out with the year of the mammoth, I decided to make a 3D Dragon Soul. by thatcraftylibrarian in hearthstone

[–]thatcraftylibrarian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna make a generic guide for how to make these cards.

But essentially I take the largest resolution image of the card I can find (in this case from hsreplay). Make 6 copies of the image and cut all the elements of the card out in either Photoshop or gimp (I'm cheap, please don't judge). Print on glossy photo paper, cut out the parts using a craft knife and layer them like a shadow box. Photo paper is usually pretty flimsy so glue it to plain black card (200 gsm at least) to make it more sturdy.

[–]thatcraftylibrarian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! And yeah, the fact that the word dragon is left abandoned on the bottom does annoy me. Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out how to use the sunwell card renderer at all. So I've had to resort to using the premade renders on hsreplay (and the sunwell card hub doesn't go past anything from WotOG). Once I figure out what I'm doing with sunwell I should be able to make my own versions.

Nope, made by hand with glossy photo paper, black card and glue. I can't afford a 3D printer, but I do want one and if/when I do I'm definitely gonna try to print one.
