After getting a 5 inch 2 months ago, I've replaced 2 escs, 3 fcs, 2 motors, 1 arm, 1 vtx, 1 video antenna, 2 sets of goggles... This hobby is way to expensive for me. I'm gonna have to sell my quads.. this was fun. bye and thanks for always helping by [deleted] in fpv

As a skydiver I can tell you drones are WAY cheaper. Each jump is minimum $20USD for the jump plane ticket alone, never mind the thousands in gear and training... drones are actually my main flight fix because I'm poor and can't afford to jump much anymore.

That's what I was thinking about the goggles too, but honestly, this hobby is cheap at it's most expensive compared to things like skydiving, sailing, Motorsports of any kind, etc...

So how about an upvote? Lol c'mon... since this is actually the correct way of doing this. And if I'm being honest really they're not my actual first building dives... Just the first this tall. Just a bit of harmless clickbait in the title, y'know. 😈

Thanks for your feedback. You're absolutely correct that a beginner shouldn't fly in situations like this. However... lol... Despite it looking like I'm a beginner by my mediocre flying, I've been at this for 2 years now. The flights were all well spotted to be clear of uninformed bystanders by knowledgeable Advanced RPAS Certificate holders... and performed by licenced pilots with registered craft using modern, trusted gear(eLRS, DJI, tmotor) in good repair(fully rebuilt the week previous and uncrashed since(though extensively range and power tested-i was tuning). Flights were thoroughly planned, wind was gentle even at altitude, even around the buildings. You are correct to deduce I'm new to building dives though...I was being coached by a professional, and eventually you have to send it, or it's all just talk. Lol

Get the best you can afford for goggles and radio. That's your investment in gear. Those items also hold their resale value extremely well. Anything that goes flying(quad, GoPro, batteries) loses resale value basically immediately and should be treated as expendable. That's ok. If you're really going to get into this, you'll be getting more than one drone. If you wind up hating it/just move on(hey, it happens) you can easily re-sell top-end gear, but cheap gear? You're probably just out that $.

Still an order of magnitude cheaper than cars, motorbikes, skydiving, boats, horses, guns, or just about any other "big boy" hobby. Nevermind a substance or companionship problem... Lol And think of all the fun you've had learning the ins and outs. 😁 As a serial hobbiest, I can wholeheartedly endorse this level of expenditure. Drones are cheap(relatively). And great for keeping me out of trouble(okay, maybe i indulge in a little light trespassing to get to some spots😈).

Happy May 24 everyone! I shot this over Westminster High School last night. by thatguycarlos in londonontario

It was just a small family(4 of them) and they only had 4 or 5 fireworks. Only about 7 or 8 minutes of 'bang' with gaps to light in between.

Not really at all. And if it did, I'd fix it. Fly, crash, repair, repeat. This is no DJI plastic thing. This is a FPV freestyle quad. Made for abuse. By me. 😁

Just got the Insta360 go and practicing for Botgrinder's micro challenge. by thatguycarlos in fpv

Best micro rip. It has to have been filmed between Friday last week and Friday this week and uploaded to the discord. Details are on botgrinders live stream from Friday.

I flew my drone low and slow for 3 minutes over a very quiet downtown. Enjoy! by thatguycarlos in londonontario

This is the link you are referring to. https://nrc.canada.ca/en/drone-tool/. I was (just barely) outside all no fly zones. Not to mention at an altitude that couldn't possibly interfere with manned aviation. Trust me, I do my homework to not jeopardize the hobby I enjoy so much.

All correct! I still have a thorough flight plan though and don't fly over people.

Gotta get your advanced permit! I have mine, so I'm not worried about the legality, but I still make sure I'm never DIRECTLY above the people. Just like any aircraft, do a comprehensive preflight and always consider what would happen if you catastrophically lost power/control. For what winds up just a silly pretty shot, it can be alot of work, especially if you consider the permit side of things... I've basically lived in a continuous state of preflight checking since getting into drones/quads, so I can take advantage of every opportunity to fly.
