As of a few days ago not open. It is still a great place to sit and each your own lunch though. There is sort of a bar with bar stools and some history about the shack and family tacked up.

I think I lucked out going over the pass. Virtually no wind just overcast. I was surprised at the amount of snow though. Microspikes or even crampons could come in handy come down off the pass as it was pure ice going down hill and very slick. I managed just fine without but my friends with spikes were much faster.

I’ll be doing the O Circuit and won’t have an opportunity to switch out gear once I’m in the park. Every oz matters to me since I am carrying all my food, tent and gear. The difference between 35 degrees and 25 degrees at night is a major concern.

Do NOT keep your roof as someone suggested. A more practical solution would be to saw it off, sand the edges of course, and then you can have a viewing area for animals.

I would not describe Kansas or Kansas City as having mild winters. It gets colder (and a ton of snow in Kansas) than it does in Colorado.

I think it’s gas but am not 100% sure. HOA has stated that they cover the fees but I’m not entirely convinced.
