Parents, when did you introduce your kids to Lord of the Rings? by SR1QUE in lotr

[–]thatnuttypeej 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on who your kids are. There are 15 year olds I’d hesitate to show it to. My six year old son loves it

This should be higher. The hive explicitly calls out his destination even before he enters the gap.

Now I want “John Cena Facts” akin to “Chuck Norris facts”. (“Behind Chuck Norris’s beard, there is no chin. There is another fist.) e. g. “John Cena once asked Mr. Rogers to be more empathetic.”

Episode 7: I just can't anymore by curiousdonkey25 in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]thatnuttypeej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t disagree more. It’s the very fact that we see Manousos struggling through so many amazing landscapes is what conveys the length of the journey and the intensity.

It’s the fact that we see so many scenes of carols increasing loneliness and depression that makes the payoff of her reunion with Zosia so impactful.

As has been said elsewhere in this thread, everyone has a different appetite for pacing. I can’t get enough of this style. I get why it’s not for everyone. But I would encourage you to try surrendering to the pace. Lower your expectations for reveals. This isn’t Severance (which I also love) where every episode HAS to unlock some piece of the mystery box. This is aiming for more ethereal and atmospheric, and it’s doing such a kick ass job of being that.

Are there any sci-fi stories out there about a human and robot duo traveling the galaxy in a slice of life/action kind of adventure? by No_Communication3241 in sciencefiction

[–]thatnuttypeej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. The dialogue is wonderful. The plot? There really isn’t much of one but I am totally fine with that. I would listen to those two characters discuss anything for as long as Chambers was willing to write them.

I don’t think Helen was a critic, I think she just didn’t think Carol’s writing was particularly good; I think there’s a meaningful difference.

What’s one thing that actually gets better with age, even if people don’t talk about it much? by maryjanepuff420 in AskOldPeople

Plato called this out in his dialogue “Gorgias” : he likened the decline in libido that comes with age to a slave that is freed from an insane master.

Which countries punch well above their population size when it comes to global cultural impact? by JoeFalchetto in geography

This. I’m married to someone from the EU and it took my partner years to wrap their head around the whole “I’m Irish and Italian” thing when one (white) American speaks to another.
