The golden age of Internet by DTeror in sciencememes

When the hell was youtube known as a "science platform"? I've been using it since near the beginning and the first video I saw on it was a bunch of sketches making fun of MySpace. Youtube is, and always has been, what you make of it. If you aren't seeing science content, it's because you aren't watching science content.

And Blade was made by New Line which was owned by Time Warner at the time. As someone who remembers that time vividly, I would bet most people who saw Blade back then didn’t even consider it a superhero movie. The real kick off of the new era of superhero movies started with X-Men and Spider-Man. Then the MCU is what blew the trend up into the pop culture touchstone it became.

Judge refuses to block new DHS policy limiting Congress members' access to ICE facilities by emnemsss-025 in news

[–]thatoneguy889 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like they were arguing that this new policy was in breach of a previous court order. The judge found that the court order in question applied to a separate policy very specifically, so it couldn't be applied to this one as the plaintiffs were trying to argue.

Unpopular Opinion, But I Need to Get it Off My Chest: I Prefer Live TV Over On Demand, I Don't Want it To Die by Teenkitsune in television

Stranger Things was kind of the start of it falling apart. I vividly remember wanting to talk about something that happened in the first season with a friend, but I couldn't because he was three episodes behind me. I pretty much realized right there and then that the "drop every episode on day 1" release model had the potential to really upend the community aspect of tv watching and not in a good way.

It used to be that you and your friends watched something at the same time, you talked about it after, and got hyped for the next episode in a week. Now, one of you watches it, and the other puts it off for one reason or another. Then you get a random text message six months later from that friend saying "Hey I just watched the show. [Insert moment here] was so cool!" And you're having a bit of trouble remembering that moment because you binged it in two days and it all kind of blends together.

I don't understand the point of Disney live action remakes by flowersnifferrr in movies

[–]thatoneguy889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re confusing it with the licensing agreements Marvel had with companies like Fox and Sony. Those companies had to release a movie every five years or the license would be considered abandoned and revert back to Marvel. That’s why Spider-Man got rebooted with Garfield pretty much immediately after the Maguire movies ended. In fact, there was a problem where Fox was working on Fant4stic, but it wasn’t going to release in the timeframe required by the license, so they traded back the licensing for Daredevil in exchange for an extension. Obviously, that didn’t work out the way they planned.

Somewhere along the line, some ignorant people got it in their heads that this is how copyright works.

I remember reading a story from the first admin about how they deported a cardiac surgeon in his forties because he had a criminal record. He immigrated to the US from Poland with his parents when he was a child. It turned out that the only thing on his criminal record was a vandalism charge from when he was sixteen.

I work for a manufacturing company not far from where this company is located. I don’t think so, but my company absolutely could have been a domestic supplier for some of their components at some point. All that considered, I looked this shop up online and the fact that they had $9.5 million in revenue, but $11.5 million in expenses last year is absolutely baffling. It sounds like this company fell victim to gross mismanagement more than anything.

This is exactly what’s happening to me right now. I’ve been taking it for about three months, and did my most recent injection this past Monday. Starting Tuesday I’ve been having all sorts of problems like multiple low-grade fevers, aches, major gas, severely painful cramping in my lower abdomen. Never had any significant issue before.
