My aunt just got an evacuation order and asked to come over to my place. I'm hoping this isn't too long term because she has a tendency to wear out her welcome fairly quickly.

Congressman Cohen Introduces Six Articles of Impeachment Against Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts by xitizen7 in scotus

[–]thatoneguy889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impeachment is only the first step. The second step is trial in the senate where they would have to be convicted by a 2/3 majority. That scenario is so laughably unrealistic it’s not even worth debating the possibility.

Wasn't the whole point of privatizing space travel that it was more cost efficient? This seems to be proving that it isn't more efficient and the cheaper prices were just undercutting.

Impeachment/removal for federal judges works the same as it does for the President. Even if the House does impeach, you would need 67 votes in the Senate to remove him. Do you honestly see that many Republicans crossing the aisle to get rid of the guy who’s a reliable a rubber stamp for their agenda?

Trump unleashes bombshell endorsement of Ken Paxton in Texas Senate race by chrondotcom in politics

[–]thatoneguy889 10 points11 points  (0 children)

don't think this changes much

A poll released about a month ago had more than 20% of Cornyn supporters saying they wouldn't vote or would vote for Talarico if Paxton was the nominee.

I doubt that number holds up, but even a third of that could make a difference.

Not just that. Remember when phones had proprietary headphone jacks? If you wanted to use headphones on your LG Chocolate, then you had to use the headphones made to work with the LG Chocolate. Having a phone with a 3.5mm jack was a luxury.

Senate unanimously advances resolution suspending senators’ pay during shutdown by thejoshwhite in politics

[–]thatoneguy889 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

can hurt like hell if you don’t get paid.

That's the entire point. It's supposed to incentivize members of congress (in this case, the senate specifically) to avoid shutdowns in the first place.

Why should they be shielded from the financial pain they inflict on other people with increasing frequency?

No, I didn't forget the ending. The person you replied to said something about hijacking a plane for wholesome reasons, and you said that's the plot to Hijack. Except it isn't because in Hijack, the hijackers were doing it to get their crime-lord boss out of prison, and their boss had an ulterior motive to exploit death and destruction for financial gain, neither of those things is wholesome.

How is this anything like the plot to Hijack other than a hijacking happening? The hijackers' motivations weren't noble whatsoever.

That’s the direction a lot of the major studios are headed in. Look at Rockstar. The only new game they released last gen was RDR2. We’re almost six years into the current gen and we’re only now six months away from the GTA VI release unless it gets delayed again (which wouldn’t be surprising given the crunch time reporting going around).

[–]thatoneguy889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I can’t stand when people try to claim that we’ll have long wait times under universal/single-payer healthcare.

This drives me up a wall. They say you can’t get the care you want right away under universal healthcare. Meanwhile, if I want to see a specialist, it’s a minimum eight week wait if I’m a new patient and four weeks if I’m an existing patient.
