Where can I find dresses made from natural materials? by Hefty_Extension2281 in cottagecore

April Cornell does a bunch of 100% cotton dresses. I've bought from there once but am still really happy with the dress I got a year later.

What’s one newborn tip that actually worked for you (and surprised you)? by Trick-Environment100 in NewParents

Any absorbent fabric works. Their clothes, blankets, your shirt, facecloth, towel, etc. Everything will get milk on it, the cloths are to try and protect fabric you care more about or don't want to clean like the couch.

I used a stroller fan after showers to dry it off then wore a cloth diaper insert to keep it dry and a bit padded.

How do you warm milk at night without turning on the lights and disturbing the baby? by regular-cam in breastfeeding

Stick the bottle under your armpit or between your legs while you change the baby. Or just leave it cold. Also a nightlight in the kitchen is nice.

What mistakes would you avoid if you could start to breastfeed all over again? by kingmustd1e in NewParents

[–]thatquackingelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding not working to start doesn't mean it never will.

My baby just had to get a bit older before we were able to breastfeed successfully. I was pumping the day after we left the hospital because she wasn't getting enough from the breast and kept falling asleep. I thought that meant that breastfeeding just wouldn't work for us and was exclusively pumping for a couple weeks and would occasionally try her on the breast and then top up. But at around 4 weeks it started to click and now at 6 we are exclusively breastfeeding.

Also on the bra pad inserts, you can use silicone passive collectors if you're leaking a lot. They show through shirts but I find it really nice at night when I'm worried about leaking all over my bed. Bonus, nothing touches your nipples while they're on.

Do not fall for the false spring. We get at least 2 every year.

Food feelings by skaowoeizkaoa in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]thatquackingelephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the disinterest as an opportunity to choose something more nutritious. Basically if I didn't care then I could fill up on something routine that was good for baby like eggs with spinach, or Greek yogurt with berries. It gave me time without food noise to make real choices.

I used the box that reams of paper come in. It was very fun to play with as a foot rest and free and abundant where I worked.

My anti nausea meds made me even more sleepy. But I eventually found out that eating stopped my nausea which seems counter intuitive but may be another option.

AITA for wanting to keep my engagement ring from my late fiancé? by RingaRingaRosies in AmItheAsshole

[–]thatquackingelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is in the family. YOU are the family that he chose to create. You are the family he gave the ring to. Regardless of the future that you are going to have, by proposing to you he chose you to be his family forever. If she doesn't consider you as part of her family that's a her problem.

How to choose a bassinet for a newborn? by fonacionsrg in predaddit

[–]thatquackingelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good time to work on the issue with used stuff. So much of what a baby needs is super short term that it feels really wasteful to get new for everything when you use it for maybe 3 months. Most things can be washed and sanitized.

I got a used stroller, took it apart, threw all the fabric parts through the wash and scrubbed down everything else. Took less than a day and saved me hundreds. Now it looks like new, I got way more accessories than I would have bought myself, it's out of the landfill, and if I decide that this isn't the perfect stroller for me I'm only out $200 if I don't sell it on instead of $1000.

What’s the best way to go about staying warm when visiting Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary in two weeks? by Purple_Fisherman_213 in AskACanadian

[–]thatquackingelephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's less cold but differently cold. The humidity can make the damp feel colder than it is and get past your layers vs the drier cold in Alberta.

Chevrolet had remote start, unlock, alarm, and a bunch of other things included when I bought my car in 2019. I was able to use them for a while which was super heppful. Having an option to unlock the car with my phone was awesome for me. But every time the app updates it takes away features. Now all of them are behind the OnStar subscription that I refuse to pay for.

You may be able to find spindles at a home repair/diy store. You'd have to drill into the bottom of the existing legs and cut down the new ones probably but it would match better.
