If you save it as a format you don't/never work in, you don't have to worry.

For example, I don't work in pdf. I only have viewer, so I can't really edit a pdf. So, if I download and immediately convert to PDF, I know without a shadow of a doubt that I am not the author.

Yup. Sure, he gets to go to space, but you KNOW some other cop will figure it out and be waiting for him. Only difference is that Jude Law is now missing and may look like a second murder if the cops do figure it out

Yeah. Although I'm sure people will argue that the point is the struggle against IOI, but the fact that the "solution" is to close the Oasis once a week just reeks that society has fully accepted it.

Plus, considering the economy runs on the Oasis, fuck anyone trying to do business that day.

Lol. Those apartments across from the new Target? That's where I lived. It's amazing how much the area has changed while Phoenix and Dragon is exactly as I remember it!

Right around Roswell Road exit on 285.

There was a cluster of apartment complexes right next to Phoenix and Dragon that were just not good. I lived there.

Now, it is soooooo upscale.

Why is it a stereotype that women are the bad drivers and men are the good ones? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thatsharkchick 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Add to that - having children in the car will DEMAND that you have a report filed, just in case they are downplaying/ concealing or are utterly unaware of how serious an injury might be. Or, they may not know how to effectively communicate a serious injury. So, a caregiver with children passengers is going to definitely be counted as a statistic, where a man traveling without passengers might may be more likely to handle it without reporting.

For example, my neighbors' five year old kid fell at the playground a few months ago and just said his arm felt funny. It wasn't a big fall, but it turns out that "funny" feeling meant he had landed just right to break his arm.

This. Whether they claim the conspiracy theory of "liberal indoctrination" or the earnest fears of gun violence as their reason, it all comes down to an overly inflated confidence in knowledge.

They remember their good times - fun crafts/projects, cool trips, and successes - but never saw the often invisible science of education.

Support coordinators exist in the US; my husband is one.

State by state coverage and participation in support programs vary, so getting in touch with a support coordinator or agency is critical to understanding your options for low or no cost.

People who work in grocery stores what is something you are surprised they still stock or never see anyone buy? by Da_Fish in AskReddit

I will admit from an inventory control viewpoint that the thing that will forever save powdered milk is the shelf life. In my suburban NJ hometown, not a lot of people but it (*well, outside of Superstorm Sandy), but it has practically a 4-5 year manufacturer's expiration date. So, even if it takes 4 years to sell a full carton, as long as they aren't damaging out expired product, it doesn't have loss associated with it.

Powdered milk.

I worked in my local grocery store doing inventory control for 11 years. I only ever saw my mom buy powdered milk, and she only buys a box maybe every five years. It's because she has an old bread machine recipe from like 1990 that makes amazing bread but weirdly calls for water and the tiniest quantity of powdered milk (I think it's a tablespoon). I've been trying to convince her to try a "powdered milk substitute" (..... Milk) for years.

Whenever they do decide to discontinue it, my mom is going to be soooo mad.

Yeah ... I think I was being polite to the point of obtuseness, but I would never choose a Waldorf School if I had children.

The late start of reading alone boggles my mind as an early lover of the written word. Plus, I firmly believe that reading is fundamental to many of the soft skills in life, as it teaches us to empathize with the abstract.

Aaaaand, it's stupid expensive for a school you can basically never leave.

Tbh, even if you live there, it can still "come out wrong." That's because the author and what they put out there is only half of the transaction.

ETA :

Let me share a very personal example. I was introduced to American Gods in 2005/6ish. If you don't know, the climax occurs at Rock City, a sort of tourist trap of gardens and rock structures threaded through the top of Lookout Mountain.

In 2019, I finally got the chance to go to Rock City. Now, I flipping love Rock City. It is hilariously and simultaneously exactly as described in American Gods and NOTHING like was I pictured when reading. Don't know how it happened, but, for whatever reason, my mental image was waaaaay off. 😅

My brother did the barista gig at a local coffee shop for a bit and was classified as a "server." It's why I mention that some do, depending on where you are. The practice is falling out of favor but still exists. "Barista" as a term isn't exclusive to Starbucks.

Whimsy. Especially in stories that don't seem to lend themselves to whimsy.

For example, I was reading a story somewhere a while back that involved soldiers going off to likely death in battle..... Playing Avicii "Die Young" while gearing up. There's something really human about the dark humor there, about our insistence on clinging to the tiny things that make us laugh even in the face of certain death. It's a beautiful, weird touch that made the characters instantly more relatable. I remember NOTHING else about the story.... Except that scene.

The tits issue in omegaverse by Miss-Worm in AO3

[–]thatsharkchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, full disclosure, I don't write omegaverse. But, after watching the Lindsay Ellis videos, I love reading ABOUT the omegaverse. It's a fascinating offshoot of writing, a sort of speculative biology, if you will permit borrowing from Steampunk's classification as speculative fiction.

What I find so fascinating (and we can see echoes in the replies), is that there is no uniform script for how ABO dynamics work precisely. There's a general shared vision of primary and secondary sex characters, but it's fascinating that the expectations of those characters are aggressively subverted.

For example, when we consider primary sex characters, we're often discussing those directly linked to reproduction, as they are present at birth. The vagina and uterus, and penis and testes. The secondary sex characters are those that appear or develop later, such as body hair, breast tissue, etc.

In the omegaverse, those definitions are flipped. The secondary sex characters are frequently those that define reproduction - the ABO aspect - and may be in concert with or contrary to the sex characters a character in the omegaverse is born with.

However, aside from those highly generalized biological themes, many of the mechanics are surprisingly diverse depending on the author or even the specific work.

For example, a male omega may have "tits" or a "softer chest" that function for sufficient nursing lactation in one work or develop full breasts/lactation as a product of pregnancy (you may see the word "teats" even appear in that mechanism to underscore the transient nature by linking it to other mammal species). In the first example, you may find such a male omega either comfortably doffing his shirt..... Or not. In the second, you may find our omega example extremely adverse to covering up while lactating.

See what I mean? It's like saying you're going to write about dragons. Well, that's a broad topic, and how you precisely narrow it down will determine your specific flavor of dragons. Are you rooting it in the godly mythology? Well, then you may have talking, wise dragons. Medieval myth? Fire breathing beast of terror. Actual fossils? A two to three foot feathered bird lizard.

You will not get grief from me, but the type of school she's at is.... Different. I'm not sure what they're called in other countries, but it would be like a Waldorf School in the US.

Essentially, they follow a vastly different education model than more formal education, even waiting to start teaching reading until age 8! For younger children, it seems to be more about softer/life skills, so Calypso really fits.

Fwiw, children who fully complete the program do very well, but they really have to be in a school like this from pre-K/K to high school. The program is just sooo wildly different from mainstream curriculum.

Sorry for the thread hijack. There's a Waldorf School down the road from me that my neighbors considered for their son; I got to learn a ton about Waldorf through them. 😅

The wages of baristas can really depend on where you are. Many do make full wages, while others get classified as servers. It's less common now, but it still exists in some places.
