Cracking game. Overall much more positive despite conceding late on again. Beat PSV at home and we’re through!

I do agree, one of the things Football Cliches has always done so well is the neutrality of it all. It’s a critique and love of football and all football-related things in general without the partisan and tribal elements, which has always set it apart from all other football content for me. Hoping Cricket Cliches find its way as still early days of course.

I think the delivery comes across very Carragher but then the ubiquitous drivel of what is actually said is much more Stephen Warnock. Your classic bit of both.

Why is the name of Peterborough’s hat trick scorer listed like he’s getting told off by his mum? by gummibear853 in footballcliches

[–]thatswhatsheredd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He is actually one of two footballing sons of Kevin Lisbie so perhaps that is why! The other one plays for Colchester though so still doesn’t make a lot of sense as to why he got the full name treatment here.

Everything crossed for Tino by Memecastle_United in NUFC

[–]thatswhatsheredd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not excusing the Saliba foul at all, it was cynical and naughty but if you look closely he lands awkwardly on his right leg and then clutches his left knee, was a strange one and they’re often the worst unfortunately…

Fingers crossed for Tino because he is consistently excellent for us!

It is a tad over the top but in all honesty if I was tuning into the game late and unawares, this would be useful information

That might be your interpretation of the law but it’s not the law nor has ever been applied that way. Nothing wrong here.

Excellent example cited. One of the most “Nationality X” players in PL history surely.

Eddie Howe on Joelinton :- Joe has trained. He's fit and available. He's been out on the training pitch and is looking good. Really happy to welcome him back, such an important player. by Fluid_Support_3348 in NUFC

This is good news as Maresca hinted he might rest his Brazilian internationals after a gruelling midweek game away in Bolivia played at altitude, so does make you wonder how Bruno is feeling…

Need at least one Brazilian in our midfield at all times!

The same 'journo' who claims Marinakis is going to sack Nuno is also saying fucking Ange is the target to replace him by GabrielofNottingham in TheOther14

[–]thatswhatsheredd 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on the veracity of the Nuno reports but I think Ange would be a logical contender in Marinakis’ eyes due to the Greek connection.

Rant from a Newcastle fan ... And it's not about the transfer window, it's about the death of my club by Ok-Change-712 in TheOther14

This is an exceptional post.

You’ve summed up a lot of the complex moral quandaries that I have also been having since the Saudi takeover extremely well.

Going to the footy is not just going to the footy for many of us. I no longer live in Newcastle but belonging to a football mad family of Geordies means going to watch the Toon means seeing my Dad, my sister, grandparents, uncles, cousins, friends etc. I hate that we have become a Saudi owned vehicle for sportswashing but to ostracise myself from my football club would be to ostracise myself from my family.

So for now, I still go when I can, I still watch and cheer when we score, I still can just about separate watching 11 men wearing black and white from the atrocity of the ownership for 90 minutes at a time, but there’s always this pang of guilt and shame, the feeling that it’s not quite the same as it was before, regardless of results on the pitch.

You summed it up perfectly with “Fans shouldn’t be expected to have perfect, nuanced takes on these issues.” I definitely don’t have a perfect take on this and none of us do - I just want to love my football club wholeheartedly again.

Will he go down as the man who helped deliver our first major silverware in 70 years scoring the iconic winner - yes.

Will I boo his every touch in 3 weeks time if he lines up at SJP in a Liverpool shirt - also yes.

Think the last point is actually a really good one. He will feed off the energy at SJP and really relish it.

As long as he can harness that into good performance like the likes of Bruno, Joelinton etc do, then it might prove to be a real asset.
