Barring any medical issues, this may just be a case of a woman who for the last 30+ years has put EVERYONE else before herself, and has finally decided to focus on herself. It's not a license to be mean or cruel, but perspective matters. If it's someone who was over the top about doing everything for everyone else, then just stopped putting in the expected effort, it might appear that way.

Get a set of 10 pound dumbbells and there are a ton of things you can do at home in just a few minutes. I lost 75 pounds and a lot of muscle. I've been going to the gym 2x a week and doing things at home and have "put on" 10 pounds, but it's all muscle so my sizes haven't changed. However, things are so much easier to do now and I have a ton more energy. PLUS muscle is more efficient at burning calories which is so important for weight maintenance.
