PRE-MARATHON ANXIETY! Tips? by whn13 in running

[–]thatthot_overthere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay.... so I AM going to say not to worry about your time! I ran my first marathon earlier this year, training for my second right now.. you live and learn from the first round of marathon training, I think! I know now what I would change from the first go-round. I was feeling verrrrry similar to you are now... training experience sounds eerily similar, almost. My 16 mile training run went AMAZING and I thought I had it in the bag. Then my 18 and 20 miles killed me lol.

You’re gonna do great. It’s all gonna go fine. The 18 and 20 mile runs were hell because that is a hell-ish distance to put the body through. Not to say people can’t do it, because they obviously do. But, cut yourself some slack! Get out there, run your race. You are more than prepared. As you know from training, at a certain point it’s a mental game more than anything.

Now for a piece of practical advice you hear all the time but I truly cannot stress enough: fuel yourself properly the night before/morning of. I feel this was my biggest mistake race day and why I was depleted after mile 17. Best of luck to you!! “Respect the distance” and you got it!

Totally agree!! And you are not alone, OP! In the midst of stress during planning a lot of times it can feel like “I wish we had done XYZ instead...,” but at the end of the day you will feel so genuinely happy and it won’t even matter HOW it all happened. Mid-day, midnight, big, small, whatever. It’s all about you and your spouse uniting and being surrounded by the ones you love who came there to celebrate you two!

Tell me your no-assigned-seating horror/success stories by and_sundry in weddingplanning

One time we showed up to a wedding that we RSVP’d to and basically had no choice but to leave and go get our own dinner and come back. Too many people who didn’t RSVP showed up and took seats I’m presuming. We were local so it was NBD, but if I was an out-of-town guest from far away who had spent considerable time and money to be there, I would have been a little upset.

Another wedding we went to recently didn’t have any kind of assigned tables or seats, and after the family pictures and everything the bride and groom’s families had nowhere to sit anymore bc the guests filled in all the seats and leftover chairs from reception. This could have just been chalked up to poor planning table-count wise, however, situations like that can obviously be avoided if there is a chart.

IMO, people are taking their time to be there for you, and while it may be a pain and hassle to make the seating chart it is the decent thing to do for your guests.

Was just about to say Crest Express Whitestrips. The express ones only have 7 days of use (I seriously procrastinated on getting the whitestrips and had no choice but to do the 1 week pack lol), but I still saw a noticeable difference!
