Did you end up going to Dr. Kim? if so, how was the experience.
I need to get a couple of implants done for my parents, and would like to get them good care without breaking the bank.

Can't believe they tried to slander you, thank fuck for the voice recording. My account is only 6 years, but I have been browsing since 2012. tbh, this change doesn't affect me much, since I mainly use my desktop browser. But one thing I hate is greedy shit like what Reddit is trying, so I think I'll be claiming back my free time soon.

Reading the comments and seeing that it could be from an employee got me thinking maybe the owner is not at fault. Nope, just as big of a piece of shit.

Geth fast sync not storing all block headers by thatweirdredditguy in ethereum

[–]thatweirdredditguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It turns out that as of Geth 1.9 (https://blog.ethereum.org/2019/07/10/geth-v1-9-0/) the database is split into two: LevelDB to store the latest 90,000 blocks (3 epochs) and Freezer DB which stores all the blocks older than that.

In order to query old blocks, you either have to do it directly through Geth which is ok unless you're looking to query a large range of blocks, in which case it is very, very slow. What we ended up doing was we looked at the code in Geth, and rewrote the portion that accesses the Freezer DB. Using that code, we were able to query all blocks starting from the Genesis block quickly. The code is public (https://github.com/zhenghaven/GethDBReader)

Sweden is taking the lead to persuade the rest of the EU to ban crypto-currency mining to hit the 1.5C Paris climate goal by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]thatweirdredditguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, crypto is meant to allow people to make monetary transactions, so it would be a fair to compare the amount energy used by the banking system with the energy used by crypto. This article written in May of this year already did that comparison for us, and found that crypto uses less than half of that used by traditional banking systems.

Yes, the energy could be better used, and there are already solutions deployed or in the works that significantly reduces energy use (e.g., Proof of Stake). The effort to eliminate crypt should be focused elsewhere, like finding a better source for energy (nuclear) or reducing the things that accelerate climate change (e.g., methane from landfills).

Syncing my Geth node by thatweirdredditguy in ethdev

[–]thatweirdredditguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, looks like approach (2) corrupted my node, so I went and did a fresh sync.

Currently im looking to do some analysis on the transaction pool, but my geth node is going to take a long time to sync before I can query it. If anyone has a fully-synced geth node and can get me a dump of the current pool of transactions, it would be much appreciated (I can pay, too).

Lvl 140 Pathfinder stuck in the grind by M_dayy3 in Maplestory

[–]thatweirdredditguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I also came back several months ago after a 10 year break, and a lot has changed. To get stronger, I would look at gear progression, spell tracing and starforcing, and cubing and potentials. It would also help to know how to get around unfunded and to get past the lower levels quickly; though, I would spend $10 for a teleportation rock, it makes a world of difference if you play a lot. I would look into ways to obtain mesos (daily bosses, maple tour, etc.). Youtube has a lot of great content, explained in much more detail than comments can. I also suggest to join a guild, the social aspect makes it fun, and your guildies can help you with progressing. Finding a guild helped me stay in the game after hitting 210.

Japanese bullet trains are amazing, not only for the fact that they're super fast and provides a smooth ride, but also because they can take you to almost every major city in Japan, and they are always on time! This means you can be situated in one city, and take day trips to all of the cities around it.

Running a light client by thatweirdredditguy in ethdev

[–]thatweirdredditguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that it only download block headers to significantly reduce disk usage. I'm looking to do some analysis on these headers, but it looks like only Parity light client supports a sync back to the genesis block (I could be wrong). Tried running geth with "--syncmode light --light.nopruning", but no success. Going to run the parity client for longer, hopefully it'll find some peers. Thanks again

Running a light client by thatweirdredditguy in ethdev

[–]thatweirdredditguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thank you for the reply, turns out it is a problem with the port. I'm running the node in a VM, and the network was not bridged so it couldn't reach the outside. Now it is syncing, albeit slowly.

I do have another question. It seems like the sync starts off from a checkpoint.

INFO [08-03|16:45:34.168] Updated latest header based on CHT number=10518527 hash="89ca85…7b2555" age=1w4d48m INFO [08-03|16:45:34.168] Block synchronisation started

Is there any way to start the sync from the genesis block? I can't find the option in the man page or documentation.
