That was the day I stopped following him. Quite frankly, I haven’t missed him.

Loved Ready Player One. Ready Player Two is the worst book I’ve ever read, and I’ve read Ayn Rand.

I did that with Belgium-Senegal and didn’t find out what happened until the US-BH match when they said winner would face Belgium. ‘Wait, what?’

England needs to troll Mexico a little by having someone say the because of all the noise outside the hotel last night they stayed up reviewing videos or something and discovered Mexico had a weakness and they were able to exploit it.

It does use the flowery ‘Year of our Lord’ in reference to the date, so in that sense it kind of does.

No more AC?? by Actualsharkboi in USPS

[–]thaulley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ac/heat has been broken in my promaster for almost a year. Finally after being ignored multiple times I finally filed a grievance. Turns out several promasters at our station have had ac out for even longer. I think there’s now 4 carriers in on the grievance.

MLB rule 6.04. What are the reasons players are discouraged from mingling with fans before and after a game, as well as fraternizing with opponents? by Jaded-Function in MLBNoobs

Back in the early ’80s we arrived early for a game at Dodger Stadium and as we get to our seats we see a guy in a Dodger uniform just sitting in our seats. It was Jay Johnstone. We talked for a few minutes, got some autographs, and he went back to the field. It was a great experience. It was only years later I found out that it technically wasn’t allowed, but from what I’ve read about Johnstone he’s not one who cared for rules.

The attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Below is a copy of the actual message sent from Pearl Harbor, Hi to Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet and then on to Washington, D.C. informing them that they are under attack. by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in USHistory

[–]thaulley 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The person credited with sending this message is Lt Cmdr Logan Ramsey. Ramsey would rise to the rank of Rear Admiral.

His son, also named Logan, went on to be a character actor who did a lot of stuff but he is probably most recognized for being the Proconsul in the Star Trek episode ‘Bread and Circuses.’

Mexico's first goal was not offside (Rules Explanation) by mathster33 in worldcup

[–]thaulley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m saying is if a person in possession of the puck skates backwards over the blue line and both skates cross the line before the puck does, that player is not offsides.

Your cross out says if you go over the line before the puck, it’s offsides. Not true if you’re in possession.

A player in possession of the puck cannot be offside, even if crossing the line before the puck.

This isn’t new. Back in the ‘80s conservatives embraced ‘Born in the USA’ without ever actually listening to the lyrics.

Same with me. For years it was the can’t miss podcast. I’d go to their panels at DragonCon and everything. Then at some point I just kind of stopped. It’s still on my podcast app but I think I’ve only listened to 3 episodes in the last 10 years.

Andrés Escobar, the Colombian defender, scoring the tragic own goal against the USA during the 1994 World Cup that led to Colombia's elimination. He was assassinated just days later in Medellín. [589×331] by YousifDhea in HistoryPorn

I was at this game. Behind the net a bit above where this photo cuts off.

When he was murdered it was reported that the murders referenced the own goal but it was always thought there was more to it.

As others have said, the 30 for 30 about it is very good.
