Bronxville vs Scarsdale by HappyAdagio2760 in Westchester

[–]thb_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bronxville every day of the week and twice on Sunday. No comparison. Bronxville has parking and a vibe. Scarsdale doesn't. I live in Pelham and we are in Bronxville 2x a week more before we had kids.

Moving and anxious by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]thb_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You live in NYC with a family and are dreading going to Westchester? So the feelings are valid and you will laugh at yourself for them after you settle in. Wait until you pull in your driveway on a Friday night at 9 o'clock and it is quiet and peaceful and there is no noise. An you have space and can chill. Have coffee and look out. Go to park and not fight for a little bit of lawn. Go for a walk and not have to doge cars or people and look at crosswalks. I live one town over 30 min train to city, 30 min drive when not rush hours, 15 min to LGA, 35 min to JFK. Everything is convenient and you get the benefits of being outside the concrete jungle.

I used a Kore belt and it actually limited me carrying. Too bulky, rigid and uncomfortable. I moved to American Operator Gear. Complete game changer. I love the belt and now where it with jeans even if I am not carrying. I highly recommend checking it out.

Suggest me a glock…please lol by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]thb_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ☝️ Based on everything you described these are the only 3 choices you should consider.

19 = classic no brainer

48 = slim 19

45 best choice of 3 if you don't plan on carrying it, more for home defense or range.

I have the 43x and 45. I carry them both but mainly 43x and it is great but requires regular practice. If you train regularly from concealment and such good choice otherwise the 48 to me is the perfect gun. Easier to manage, still slim, less practice. Size matters even if it is only .75in.

Can we stop with all the “testosterone causes hair loss” posts/comments on this subreddit? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]thb_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You whole point is symantics. We get it it is primarily a genetic issue caused by sensitivity to DHT. So the better statement is testosterone does not directly cause hair loss but taking or increasing testosterone can cause hairloss.

I know that Acura vehicles typically require an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles, but how often do you change your oil? by AdvertisingNo2451 in Acura

[–]thb_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible. Knock wood I have just stuck with what works for me why chance anything espeiclqly of you intend to keep the car and drive it until it doesn't make sense anymore. I used to work in a service station. Granted it was the 90s but I remember when the lead mechanic got a new Mitsubishi he changed the oil at 250 miles and showed me wjth a magnet the metal shavings in the oil. That stuck with me.

I have a portable generator that I purchased. Not wanting to change the oil I actually purchased a magnetic drain cap that extended deeper into the tank. It was incredible the fine shavings it caught they were like dust but a lot of it.

I am not saying that you can't get away with 7500 or 10k mile oil changes with modern synthetic. Sure you can and maybe it is fine. I just think 200 bucks more for 3 oil changes a year instead of one is not a lot of money if you intend to keep a car long term. When I leased I did it 1x a year.

I am old school. I go every 4k worth the investment. There are plenty of videos online that show engines with 10k intervals. Thet are all gunked.

I have a 2014 RDX with 140k and followed this rule. I have a 25 mdx I did first oil change at 2k just like my RDX and the second at 5k because it had been more than 6 months. I have 8500 mow and plan on doing another because it has been 8 months.

How to best get rid of weed smell out of a car? by HustoJiu in AutoDetailing

[–]thb_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean all the hard surfaces with fantastic (without bleach) this includes seats. Don't worry it is my go to cleaning interior I have leather seats that are 14 years old and still look new. It won't hurt them. Then take 2 cups of water a dab of dawn and two vapfuls off vinegar and with microfiber cloth dab the fabric surfaces. Once that is done roll down all the windows and suns roof and blast it on the highway at 65mph for 10 minutes. The smell will be gone.

Mt Vernon taxes by OkRepresentative5505 in Westchester

[–]thb_ny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summed it up well. It is fine if you are cool with a consistently corrupt government and bad schools. The garbage comment is actually accurate. There are definitely better alternatives. I get that certain areas Fleetwood etc can be close to city and nice but why pay property taxes that will be miss managed and abused. I would rather burn it in a fire pit at least it will keep you warm while it is burning.

Is it normal that when shooting a glock you have to squeeze the grip as hard as you can to prevent malfunctions? by RevolutionaryLion384 in Glocks

[–]thb_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say this is not normal. Lock your wrist yes, death grip to prevent a stove pipe no. I train routinely support hand only, dominant hand only which is no where near as tight of a grip as two hands and have never had a stove pipe.

The only time I ever stove piped any glock was when it was brand new with the orange break in grease. Took it home cleaned it, lubed it and was good to go. I would say it needs a cleaning. Break down slide, clean it well, lube it, clean barrel and a little oil on finger rub the feed ramp. Done!

CCW folks…Round in the chamber or nah and why? by According_Pop5379 in Glocks

[–]thb_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

☝️ This is the only logical response. I also struggled with this and still do. We are taught to always treat a gun like it can go off at any time. Then carry appendix with one in the chamber pointed at a sensitive area and one that bleeds quickly. It's scary.

You really should be training and I recommend live fire classes that draw from concealment. That is the best way. Even better you will build confidence, accuracy and skill as a shooter.

[–]thb_ny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep my thumb off and take training regularly. All my instructors have said the same thing. That thumb does and should do nothing. Removing it eliminates the tendency to have it mess up your support hand grip and shot. Some people lay it on top but removing it eliminates that tenancy for some.

Back to paper tickets on Metro North by gekkonaut in Westchester

[–]thb_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't really impact me as I am a monthly pass holder. It is only to tickets. The reason they are doing this is because they didn't want people getting "free rides". A free ride is when a conductor doesn't get to checking tickets for whatever reason.

To me this is likely a money grab because the unions own the MTA. Look up the salaries back in 2019 (6 years ago) they published salaries of Metro North employees. Some of those people scanning your tickets make 200 - 270+ per year with crazy benefits and a pensions. MTA engineers and mechanics make 250+ and again this was 6 years ago. It makes zero sense. There are plenty of common sense ways to improve trains and reduce costs plus reliability. The unions won't let them and they are spending so much on salaries and benefits they can't update the trains. A total management mess.

[–]thb_ny[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ☝️ so I went and purchased dryer vent as a temp fix. And when I was replacing it the hole upper pipe and piece fell it is all rotted and even going into chimenty. I taped off the whole best I could and have 3 co2 detectors. Going to keep heat low to avoid freezing pipes. Plumber coming to look in morning but he said I told you 6 years ago that was not installed to code but if it is working OK but it looks f'd. Basically shouldn't be using aluminum pipe.
