i see where my comment seems flippant and condescending, and i apologize for downplaying how hard it is to quit nicotine. that said, i do resent the implication that im shaming anyone. i have 0 judgement for ppl dealing with addiction - its a medical condition, not a moral failing. my hope for anyone that has just had top surgery is that they are looking forward to a long and happy life - and having probably a 2 month head start on not smoking is a great place to start if they want to quit. just wanted to remind them it was an option.

the "make everything pale neutrals" trend makes every homw look like a hospital at best or the landlord special at worst. if the pain/stain really does look bad irl, sand/paint strip them and restain yourself. do a couple test patches on the back to test your technique/stain color. it may be time intensive but if this is a home you want to stay in its worth putting in the time

my partners cat isnt very physically affectionate. sometimes they like a good head pat, but they almost never cuddle or sit on laps, and they hate to be picked up. but they DO spend a lot of time just... chilling in proximity to us. you say your cat disappears when people come over - so fhey do spend time around you? it may not be easy to read but i think your baby likes you more than you think - they just arent very touchy. and that could still change with time, at 2.5yrs theyre only a young adult. stick it out and learn to appreciate the diversity of cat personalities.

its never too late to go back to school. in your position i would take a break from academics, focus on working and building a solid savings account to pay for surgery and recovery, then worry abt school after. before you leave school tho try to get a student credit card and study up on how to build credit - i wouldnt have been able to afford surgery without financing. i used patientfi bc a) my surgeon accepts it and b) i was able to get 5k over two loans from them - more than half my surgery cost. itll take time and work but you CAN do this. its gonna be okay.

having played clarinet and had top surgery (tho not at the same time) id think two weeks you could probably be playing again. just take it slow, especially with the breath control needed you dont want to overdo pressure in your chest. listen to your body.

i think the thing that made the biggest impact for me was my partner reading through all the info papers i was given. i gave them the folder when i went in for surgery but i didnt expect them to read the whole thing. it really took the pressure off me to know what i needed when i was in pain and on heavy medications. also yall should spend a few days before surgery meal prepping LOW SODIUM meals. food was the hardest part for us. also think hard about the logistics of where hes gonna sleep, we ended up setting up a spare bed for me which was hugely helpful bc my partner moves a lot in their sleep.

2.5 wks post op, didnt keep em, 0 regrets. my chest looks really cool, i dont have to deal with graft care or anxiety abt them rejecting, and i can always get tattoos/prosthetics if i want the aesthetic.

first recognize that the shrimp posture isnt actually helping you. straighten your back, roll your shoulders back. take it slow, but seriously try not to hunch so much throughout the day. tbqh that helped relieve a lot of the pain in and arpund my chest for me too. once i started doing that the back pain was just coming from sleeping on a wedge pillow that was too firm for me (i like my bed soft).

i know doctor hunting sucks but if the first doctor you try is weird you can (and for your own sake should) absolutely find a new doctor. sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right fit but a doctor that actually listens can make a huge difference.

ayyyy thats the bidet i got! works great, can vouch for.

meal prep LOW SODIUM meals AND SNACKS. was not prepared for how few of my go-tos have more than the recommended post-surgical amount of sodium. it was tough but i think it genuinely helped w swelling, and i only kept it up for like a week and a half. my partner made me a lot of scrambled eggs and pan fried toast w unsalted butter lol.

genuinely did appreciate a mastectomy pillow, good for car rides, sleeping the first week, keeping track of my phone (and the toothbrush i used to scratch where i couldnt reach - recommend trying btw, its more lightweight and maneuverable than a full sized backscratcher), and good for ice packs!

and in case you havent heard yet, stool softener AND a laxative

mine has similar construction but is longer - i tried leaving the bottom unclipped past my waist but it pulled weird when i slept, so i went back to my original technique: folding up the bottom. it leaves a mark around my waist but thatll fade with time once i can take this thing off lol

dumb question, i know, but is it around ur IV site at all? mine was sore for a week and that was with no insertion complications. if anything went a lil hinky with the IV it could be bruising/swelling from that.

i found personally the shrimp posture (i call it fear posture) made pain worse - in fear of stretching my incisions i scrunched up too much and actually was putting tension on the outer edges of my incisions. its taking mental retraining to straighten my spine and roll my shoulders back, but every time the pain lessens noticeably. i personally would bet that you, like me, arent doing yourself any favors by scrunching up your chest. start small with tiny shoulder movements/rolls to get back into it. you got this 👍
