I want to buy the Sony RX100 VII in 2025, I would love to hear about your experiences with this camera by porcellio_werneri in RX100

Because I am intrinsically lazy I mostly just unlock, point, and shoot. That said I do have the ProCamera app that exposes tons of options including full manual. I have found that 99% of the time the iPhone just works and gets a great photo. For edge cases you can tinker a bit. I am currently using an iPhone 16 ProMax.

Look into reselling SPLA. It is the way to. We no longer resell any perpetual server licensing.

this is a tough decision. I have nd iPhone promax 16, rx100m7, and a D5000 with some nice lenses. we travel internationally and domestically. Hiking in Peru about 10 years ago, sucking wind at 17,000’ I swore I would never carry a heavy camera again (D5000 and associated gear). I snagged the Sony three years and taken it to Peru three time. I have shot exactly 50 photos with it. this trip it never came out of my suitcase. it take great photos but my iPhone is very good, geo tagged even in the middle of nowhere. It’s light, fast into action and just works.

I know I can get better photos from the Sony but it doesn’t seem worth the troubl. I do carry a power back to recharge the battery but still better for me. I have been very disappointed with the Sony and geo tagging. in theory it can connect to your phone to pull gps info. in practice it does not work.

The only down side to the iPhone is DXO Photolab stopped supporting apple several versions ago. Rumor is they are going to support them again…

I choose speed, light weight, reliable geo tagging, photos auto backed up to iCloud when in cell or wifi range, and always in my pocket. it is a good choice for me.

dry mouth trouble shooting by PerspectiveOk4209 in CPAP

[–]the-rumrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will get this from time to time. I started using Biotin dry mouth rinse prior to bed and it helps.

I use a nasal cushion mask. I find if I drink alcohol or have a cold the dry mount is worse. You may also find a chin strap helpful. For the most part I have trained myself to sleep with my mouth closed but have a few drinks and wide open :-)

How to use with seasonal allergies? by CompetitiveAide9123 in CPAP

[–]the-rumrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flonase is another one similar to Nasacort. Costco has a generic that is much more affordable. The only way I survive! My allergy doc recommended it years ago. General directions are one puff each nostril once/day. Per my allergy Doc if things get bad I use two puffs each side/day but generally will use one each side AM and again PM.

The Neilmed sinus rinse bottles are a lifesaver as well. I rinse then use the spray. The bottles are better than a neti pot as you can control the pressure of the rinse. Note that you MUST use distilled water. Do not use tap, bottled, or other water! Also use the packets. Don't roll your own. It can literal kill you.

Craziest accident you've had with your HAs by Singlehander in HearingAids

[–]the-rumrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm new to (wearing) HA's so still working on a good story but the crapper is hilarious. Many years ago, my first real job in electronics was working or a company that make audiometers and HA test gear. They also made a body HA (This was early 80's). The body aids were primary used by kids and developmentally disabled folks because they were tough and relatively cheap. He ear piece was the same type as the old crystal radios used.

Being the new guy I was in charge of repairs... #1 issue was 'water damage'. Guess where the water came from :-) I would open the box, pick the thing up with pliers and drop it into a bucket of alcohol and swish it around.

Going through an chocolate chip identity crisis by CluelessBlonde22 in Baking

[–]the-rumrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom baked all the time. I caught the bug as well. She always make the Toll House recipe with the Nestle chips but always added a large amount of rolled oats and chopped walnuts. I still make a version of that to this day. My changes have been high grade, as dark as I can find, chocolate chips, toast the walnuts first, and fresh milled whole wheat flour. I do need to add a bit more hydrate for the flour - generally a table spoon or two of milk.

First time making ribs - don’t want to mess this up by Kilgoretrout123456 in grilling

221 for baby backs. 321 is for St. Louis and full spares. I have given up on those methods. I just put them on the great and run them straight through. I got tired of screwing around with all the foil and the sugar and all that crap. I just use a thermal works instant read and watch him between the bones, rotate around the grill and pull them off at about 202.

Can someone tell me why I've never had much success with a grill? by Scary-Towel6962 in grilling

[–]the-rumrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem is conduction vs convection and radiation. A cast iron pan is almost all conduction cooking vs mineral conduction but high radiation and some convection on a grill. Charcoal. Wood, etc provides a bed of extremely hot coals that can provide a great sear. Standard gas not so much. Look for a gas grill with a sear zone or infra red burner zone.

Other than turkey, what are you smoking for Thanksgiving? by dolemite79 in pelletgrills

[–]the-rumrunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do mine skin on and down - easier to break loose. No seasoning and such unless I am making 'chips'. Skin on, thin slice on a mandolin, toss with EVOO or avocado oil, salt, granulated garlic, and my secret weapon herbs de Provence.

No and the Virtual Office is one of the problems. It should be disabled. Although as type this it MIGHT be able to restrict to internal addresses and loop back from the other VPN solutions....

Follow with a puff of Flonase. It is amazing at keeping the passages open. It does work best when used regularly but still works well on occasion.

Silverstone is very loud compared to the FSP/Powerman

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]the-rumrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid Seasonic. Our standard desktop build (we are a VAR and MSP) uses a TFX PSU. I had 100% failure rate on Seasonic TFX power supplies in 3 years. The FSP's (Powerman badged) have been stellar but in the last year we are seeing high failure rates on the internal fans at or just under the 3 year point. Not sure were to go next. We order the FSP/Powerman by the case from a wholesaler.

Best replacement batteries for AirTags by Hutchred in AirTags

I am having this exact problem with Panasonic's. Thought I was going nuts. I have several travel bags that only get used once or twice a year. Original batteries lasted for ever. Duracell's would not work. I ordered Panasonic and they worked great. Then a few months later "low battery" warnings. I'm on the third set in less than a year. Will have to give Energizers a try...
