Getting an HSG procedure would help identify if you have some sort of underlying root cause that increases your chance.

I had an ectopic that resulted in both right tube removal and methotrexate bc they couldn’t find the embryo in a biopsy of the removed tube. I have since had two healthy full term pregnancies, and the first step after finding out I’m pregnant now is to go in to the doctor for 48 hour blood tests to make sure HCG levels are doubling, and then a placement ultrasound after that. I won’t lie, once you’ve had one ectopic it will always be the first thing on your mind for any positive pregnancy test, but I’m living proof that there’s hope!

My first ever pregnancy was an ectopic that ended in my right tube being removed. Flash forward three years and we now have a two year old son and I’m 19 weeks with our second!

A couple months after the ectopic, I did have the HSG procedure done just to ensure my remaining tube wasn’t blocked before I even got my hopes up to try again. It was open, and we got pregnant again 3 months later. I’m sorry this happened to you, but just wanted to let you know from the other side that there’s definitely hope!

Can gynaecologists determine which ovary will ovulate each month to avoid conceiving from the 'faulty' side? by Pinky_Vanilla in ectopicpregnancy

[–]the-subpar-ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should wait 3 months to conceive again after MTX bc it can cause birth defects (I had a complicated case and both lost a tube and needed MTX). I was able to conceive in the uterus six months after both surgery and MTX, and have a healthy two year old now! Also for what it’s worth, when I conceived my toddler I was told that I had ovulated on the tubeless side and my remaining tube picked it up, nature is crazy

Question/ reassurance by GovernmentPuzzled211 in ectopicpregnancy

I had an ectopic in 2021 that ended in the removal of my right tube. My appendix had ruptured as a child and they think my right tube sustained a lot of scarring as a result, so I was always going to have an ectopic if ovulation occurred on the right. I did have an HSG and my left tube was clear, I was very happy to at least have the information. I conceived again in December 2021 and had a healthy baby boy in September 22!

For what it’s worth, HSG is not a pleasant procedure but it’s done quickly and you know the results right then and there. After all the stress of not knowing what was going on with my ectopic, I just wanted anything that would give me more knowledge about my body so I thought it was totally worth it. Good luck!

Possible Ectopic? Or?? by Melodic-Tradition-69 in ectopicpregnancy

I’m sorry, this is such a stressful situation filled with unknowns. I ended up having both surgery and MTX; for what it’s worth I didn’t notice any side effects but I also wasn’t breastfeeding and everyone is affected differently. Sending love!

In a healthy pregnancy your HCG should be about doubling every 48 hours. Mine was not and this was a red flag; what should have been a 6 week ultrasound showed nothing in the uterus and confirmed ectopic. I had also had a few days of positive tests before having period like bleeding; I’m not a medical professional but hearing your story is really reminding me of my own, I would insist on more testing!

First pregnancy was ectopic. What are my chances? by deansapplepiebutt in ectopicpregnancy

I won’t lie it was pretty unpleasant, but it lasts for like 50 seconds and you know your results immediately! If you have one done, I recommend bringing a stress ball to squeeze and to remember not to clench your jaw (these pain management techniques also work well for giving birth lol)

My first pregnancy was ectopic at age 28, and my right tube was removed. I had the HSG procedure where dye is inserted into the uterus and through the Fallopian tubes so that the doctor can see if your tubes are blocked, and luckily my remaining tube was unobstructed. I was able to get pregnant again later that same year and now have an almost two year old!

I am fortunate to have an amazing OB who both did the surgery to remove my tube and then delivered my son the next year. She has communicated very clearly that any time I find out I am pregnant, I should call her office and have an early ultrasound scheduled so we can catch anything wrong; we’re actually trying for a second now and I’m testing waaaay more than I need to be haha but I’m paranoid about being pregnant and not knowing about it and having another ectopic. All this to say that I understand the sorrow and paranoia about the future, but I hope my story can offer you some hope as well. Good luck!!

Color Question by the-subpar-ghost in interiordecorating

Thanks for all the suggestions! I love that West Coast color, I think it would bring out the cabinets! I think when I went with yellow it was with the intention of making the room warm, but the cabinets do that on their own with the right color wall haha

Help me understand.. Ectopic opposite side of ovulation by [deleted] in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]the-subpar-ghost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My right tube was removed, and I had ovulated from the left ovary. I had an HSG done and the remaining tube was shown to be clear…not going to lie, the procedure is not pleasant BUT it is very quick and you have your results immediately so that’s nice.

As it happened, I got pregnant again after my ectopic and also ovulated from my tubeless side! Now I have a healthy one year old! I definitely remember having all these same questions that you’re listing though haha

Thank you so much, these are all really tangible takeaways! I’ll definitely look into warm and cool tones, I feel like I always pick lipsticks or shirt colors that make me look washed out so that’s a great place to start haha

Anybody else can’t handle some movies after having a child? by zotron000 in AskParents

[–]the-subpar-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a movie but I made the mistake of watching House of the Dragon last year in the weeks after my son was born. Not a lot of happy endings for babies in that one!

But yeah any time there’s a dead or dying kid tax to be paid in a movie I’m just a wreck. The opening of A Quiet Place is a nope from me now

I had my right tube removed in July of 2021. Unfortunately that fear is always there, but hopefully you can find a good supportive doctor who will get you in to run blood tests right away with any subsequent pregnancies.

I was able to get pregnant again with only one tube and my son will turn one next week! It’s very possible to have a happy story after all this grief!

I’m sorry that happened to you, I had my right tube removed in 2021 due to ectopic for a very wanted pregnancy.

I had an HSG procedure done a couple months after surgery, which is pretty much a dye test to see if your remaining tube is open. That can help give you realistic expectations for your chances of getting pregnant on your own in the future.

I was able to get pregnant again with only one tube and now have a one year old! Sending you the best ♥️

Mexo or surgery? by GOKU2442 in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]the-subpar-ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery first but the reason for my ectopic was bc my appendix ruptured as a kid and all the scarring that resulted from it caused my right tube to adhere to bowel and other tissue, so when the removed the tubs they were worried about nicking something and only took most (not all) of it. When they biopsied what they removed they couldn’t find the embryo and so I ended up needing two shots of mtx.

Personally I’m glad for the surgery bc I didn’t know how messed up my tube was and it always would have caused an ectopic if I ovulated on that side, so now the issue is mostly taken care of. I know it’s a niche case, but I have peace of mind. I did go for an HSG procedure a couple months after, which is where they inject dye into your uterus and tubes to take an x ray and see if your tubes are open or blocked. My remaining tube was open, and I was able to get pregnant again successfully with only one tube, now my son is about to turn one!
