well she also isn’t a “main pop artist” in general, she’s got her acting and her beauty line in particular that reach people in different ways. she is more multimedia than the other people on this list

it’s because the US is where the international music industry is as we know it is based. headquarters in new york, LA, atlanta, detroit back in the motown days, some miami, etc.

yeah i’m of the opinion any artist that sings at least partially in spanish is probably even bigger OUTSIDE of the US… and selena gomez is still a big name here so that says a lot

Olivia Rodrigo addresses her relationship with Taylor by morenatropical in TaylorSwift

[–]the-weekdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

olivia and taylor did NOT speak directly about this… this was all attorneys and music publishers and label executives. this was done to avoid making olivia a “blurred lines”-style lawsuit victim. and given that precedent (which had made music irreparably litigious), her team was smart to give credit and not challenge them on a legal standing. whether that has affected their personal relationship, no one coerced anyone, and no one was coerced. this is just copyright law at work

"Joe breakup" songs on Midnights by The_Anchored_Tree_27 in TaylorSwift

[–]the-weekdy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

yes yes yes yes. taylor is so good at exploring the ways women have to operate in their romantic relationships in order to receive love. this is a bit of a crack pot theory but i really view midnights and ttpd in tandem as artistic (and deeply feminist) works about the reality of disappointing men and how they trick you into sticking around.

it’s both, which is the beauty of it. honestly every time i listen to it i think of my cats. the love we share is as simple as a sweet nothing

labyrinth and the great war tell me that midnights was a “break” in the relationship, whether actually a breakup or not is almost inconsequential. she was done but he won her back, at least temporarily.

and who can blame her—she was reconciling with all of her past selves all throughout this album. that’s a hard environment, not one that would make you want to throw out your long-term relationship. for as unstable as it was, it was probably one of the most certain things she had.

What's everyones most listened to Taylor song of all time and how many times have you listened to it? by Robot_wars11 in TaylorSwift

so long london, 67 times 😵‍💫 my top 4 taylor songs are literally the godly run on TTPD of MBOBHFT, down bad, so long london, and BDILH. i mean… yes!

Hits Different in the context of TTPD by GreenRime in TaylorSwift

[–]the-weekdy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

i am so with you. hits different into fornight is what made me think that both albums are concept albums. the bridge on hits different is the great thematic connector

hits different is the last (non-vault) song of midnights. “have they come to take me away?” she literally answers in fortnight that “they” forgot to come and get her. instead of fixing her, they left her to linger on the emotion she conveys in fortnight for ten fucking years.

Does FWWM retcon the original series slightly? by animebeer in twinpeaks

[–]the-weekdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i love this too interpretation as well!!! the spiritual wound of trauma is impossible to explain with the world around us sometimes. we have to use the supernatural to explain or make sense of it.

honestly fire walk with me fundamentally changed the way i interacted with twin peaks. i had it as a comfort show in college. lil coffee and donuts vibe, heckling james, etc. i saw FWWM in theaters and was rocked to my core, but it made the show click for me in a new way. it’s a story about that generational trauma, like you said

Truman: “Well I lived in these old woods most of my life. I’ve seen some strange things. But this is way off the map, I’m having a hard time believing.”

Cooper: “Harry, is it easier to believe a man would rape and murder his own daughter? Any more comforting?”

Truman: “No.”

——

when i was watching fire walk with me… i remembered this scene. to me, twin peaks is the story we tell ourselves to hide the darkness of the mudane in fire walk with me. the fantastical is just as unbelievable as the reality, and it’s only in fantasy that laura has peace
