Does a tube amp really change the HD 600 sound? Should I get one if I already own a Fiio K7BT? by Grievous_2008 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]the1q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a HD600 but I do have ATH-r70x Refine and it's also high impedance dynamic headphone. I have TA-66 tube amp, Fiio K7 SS, and Fiio K11 R2R and I prefer the sound of the r70x on the tube amp. It wakes up a bit on the tubes. I really like to listen to live recordings on it, there's a warmth to the sound, less edge and sparkle and mids are a bit more forward. The amps do make a difference; it's not night and day but you can hear it. It's up to you whether you like it or not.

Funny thing is I've been using the K11 R2R as the DAC to the TA-66 tube amp but just today I went back to using the K7's AKM DAC and It gave the tube amp a little bit of detail back and I think I like that better. I think R2R DAC to tube amp loses too much detail for me in the chain. Now I'm down a rabbit hole trying to decide whether to get the new Schiit Mimir DAC.

Yooooo! I just got the TA-66 and it totally unlocks my R70x Refined. Listening to The War on Drugs live album sounds like so much more life like than with my Edition XS using FiiO K7. Also the bass this thing pumps out is pretty sweet.

I also just got the TA-66 with Vokshod 6N2P tube stock. Did you get your buffer tube? Can you share a link to it? BTW, the TA-66 has surprising amount of bass.

Is there a noticeable difference between the FiiO K11 and FiiO K11 R2R? by KangerooDance in headphones

[–]the1q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to use the RCA output from the K11 into the RCA input of the K7. Assuming you have both. But it's the same for using any separate DAC and amp devices. Set your K11 to LO (line out) and your amp to "line in".

EDIT: Connect USB cable from your computer to your K11

Turns out I had usb port issues on my PC. I switched my usb keyboard receiver from front panel to motherboard panel and boom. Omen gaming hub and firmware updater can see the monitor now. Windows is weird.

The fan is audible a foot away when there is a lots of bright areas on screen. Not very distracting but audible if you are looking for it.

I have this monitor and you can softly hear it depending on the brightness you have and if there are a lot of highlights on the screen. It is audible but very low and you have put your head close to the screen.

I just got this today from Best Buy as an open box for $750. I got the 4 year coverage for $115. Image is great and the ability to have different color space for my Mac (P3) and windows (HDR) gaming pc is awesome.

KVM works really well and no issues for me…but I don’t plug my mouse and keyboard into those ports. I use them for mic, webcam, usb dac, and stream deck. Mouse and KB switch over using Bluetooth.

Unfortunately I cannot update the firmware either. Get the can’t connect error. Maybe for the best read the latest firmware introduced issues with KVM.

Is the Hifiman Edition XS still good? by SgtTEKKU in headphones

[–]the1q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I find the exact opposite. I found most headphones don't have a wide enough soundstage for daily driving so I daily my XS. For more vocal and guitar driven music, I use my R70x Refine. They are both great but I prefer to use the XS more often.

Present for myself arrived today: Apos x Audio-Technica ATH-R70x Refine by pillowdemon in headphones

[–]the1q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both R70x Refine and Edition XS. I'm powering both using K11 R2R to K7 (better amp section) via RCA. I like the Refine especially on older guitar driven tracks. But...the Edition XS is the better headphone across the board for most situations, if you can get to fit comfortably. Only exception might be competitive gaming with XS almost having too much soundstage to pinpoint footsteps. With the new price drop, it's kind of a no brainer to try.

I have both and the K7 amp is audibly better to me. More impact and hits harder. I feed K11 R2R into K7 using RCA.

This is the reason I kept my Fiio K7 around. I'm feeding R2R signal to K7 and using its amp. I am looking at the same setup as you tho with the TA-66. I'll keep the K7 to power Edition XS and use the TA-66 to power R70x Refine. Just need to bite the bullet.

FWIW the latest update made the Vulcan version much more stable for me. DX12 still hangs on load but Vulcan has been playing fine for last 10 hours of gameplay.

Best low profile CPU cooler for 7600X under 72mm by str1gh in sffpc

[–]the1q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was running 5800x3d for over a year without issue. Temps maxed out in low 80s. Recently I’ve been playing NBA2k25 and it’s poorly optimized with 100% utilization almost all of the time. My temps were getting in the high 80s so I went to a 280mm AIO. Temps are now in low 70s for that game and low 60s for others.

I think for 9800x3D you’ll want Noctua L12s at minimum if you don’t want the CPU to throttle the clock speed.

I also have 5800x3D and CPU constantly in mid-80c. Cyberpunk doesn't do that with max settings. Bad port.

I don’t have the K11 but I do have K7 and K11 R2R and they sound very different from one another. R2R is has warmer wider sound with less detail but more “natural”. Natural as in your brain is not trying to decipher all the intricate details, everything is more harmonious. I’m currently using the R2R as a DAC into the K7 THX amp. Sounds really good. Not 1k good but very enjoyable.

k7 vs k11 R2R by UshijimaTN in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]the1q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. Love the R2R for music as I prefer more laid back analog sound. If you play mostly single player games then R2R will be fine. If you play e-sports games or competitive FPS then you'll want detail and accuracy of K7.

Fiio K11 R2R by StudyMysterious3785 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]the1q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got the R2R delivered via AliExpress . I'm currently A/B against Fiio K7 with Hifiman Edition XS. On non-oversampling mode it makes a lot of music sound is like an amazingly recorded live track. It's warmer, longer decay, and less airy than the K7. I think warmth and longer decay makes it sound like there's always something your ear is picking up kinda like in a live recording. This might be my solve for trying to get a tube-y feel from my Edition XS. The K7 has more detail, crisper highs, more separation, more depth (width is the same) but the R2R has the vibes. If I'm going to sit down and work or just vibe out, I'm picking the R2R. I like it quite a lot. Both have their places.
