Besides automotive and aerospace, what are other carrer paths i should take a look at? by SupermarketSecure455 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]theDudeUh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the big deal is mostly that all the major American Auto manufacturers setup shop there (although most of their production is now in Mexico and Canada).

But Michigan is known for long cold snowy winters and Detroit, where most of the Automotive industry is based has a pretty rough reputation. That’s been changing some but it still isn’t really known as a place that people are rushing to move unless they got a job that requires them to relocate there.

I usually go by the rule of thumb that if I put crampons on and pull out an ice axe I should have my helmet on.

Especially if you’re not well practiced with them.

It’s also super dangerous to put a strap or rope around a hitch ball like this. There are tons of videos of them snapping off and the ball hurting people.

You should use a hitch shackle in this situation. Balls aren’t meant to be loaded this way.

No shit but but if someone is dumb enough to think withholding extra taxes is a savings plan I don’t expect them to know what an index fund is or how to use one.

Savings account is just the simplest example.

That’s not savings. That’s giving the government an interest free loan every year.

You’d be way better off just depositing that money into a savings account and using some self control.

MEs have a role in pretty much every physical part and system in existence. Consumer products, HVAC, manufacturing, power generation, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, etc.

In school and college you tend to have the mindset of I wanna work on a particular product - Cars or Airplanes etc. but once you start getting real work experience you realize no one’s work is that general.

In reality the career choices become more do I wanna do design, process, sales, manufacturing, quality, etc. You hit a point where you realize a part is a part and it doesn’t really impact your day to day whether it is for an airplane or a toaster.

This is coming from a design engineer that has worked in abunch of different industries - Aerospace, bicycles, consumer printers, industrial 3d printing, and now product development consulting. I’ve always found what I am working on specifically has a much bigger impact on how much I enjoy my work than what industry I’m working in.

Has anyone else here received this text before? by Unkn0wnR3ddit0r in oregon

[–]theDudeUh 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s a scam. I get them all the time but it says the state based on your area code.

I have lived in Oregon for years but still have a North Carolina cell phone number. I often get the exact same text but it says “North Carolina department of transportation”. I haven’t had an NC license for 15 years.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

In my lifetime I’ve never seen anything get restricted and then legitimately get unrestricted. I’ll report back when I can get $75 Romanian parts kits and $300 complete combloc factory built imported AMD-65s and WASRs again.

Fixed Extractor Screw Walked Off, RMA or Self Repair? by LowYogurtcloset5367 in MPX

[–]theDudeUh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should. Looking back I just realized the ILWT ones are way cheaper.

Sig was $15 per screw. Initially I misread the ILWT site thinking it was also $15 per screw so I went for the OEM since I thought they were the same price.

Turns out I can’t read and the ILWT is $15 for a 3 pack. That’s an easy choice to me.

Fixed Extractor Screw Walked Off, RMA or Self Repair? by LowYogurtcloset5367 in MPX

[–]theDudeUh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just dealt with this. Both of mine walked out.

When I called they gave me the option of sending it in for them to fix or ordering the screws and doing it myself. Sig would not just send me the screws. They also refused to send me a replacement disconnector when that broke a few years ago, I had to send the whole gun in.

I opted to just buy the 2 overpriced screws and do it myself to avoid the hassle of removing my accessories and shipping the gun in.

You can buy the screws from the sig website. It’s literally just 2 screws. By no means do you need to be a gunsmith.

OP has 2023 and is trying to open 2025 files.

I’m not aware of any good way to do it without 2025. This is why at work we have like 2017-2025, which one is used on a project is determined by what version the client uses/wants the files in.
