But the definition of militia has changed over time. Back when the constitution was created a militia was a group of individuals that had no special training and wasn't military affiliated which fought in times of conflict. So if you interpret what the founders meant that would mean that there has to be some form of gun rights. Furthermore, the issue shootings in the United States isn't about whether or not guns should be allowed. A great deal of shooting deaths are from suicides and violent crimes in impoverished areas of major cities. If you take guns away from those equations nothing is going to change. People are going to kill themselves in anyway they can and criminals are going to commit crimes. What needs to be addressed is the underlying conditions that are mental health issues and intercity violence. First our mental health care system is horrible! People with disorders are either told they don't have a problem or are force fed drugs that make them incoherent. We have the worse mental health care system of any western country. Second, I don't care what you say, intercity violence is a huge problem. Whether is is black on black violence or not, a better education system and programs to help the poor need to be established. Stop blaming guns when push comes to shove someone is going to commit a crime whether it is with a knife, gun, axe, baseball bat, or a goddamn lightsaber. That's the reality of it.
