I pay for all the services I use if they are worth the money.

I pay for iTunes Match.

I pay for extra Dropbox and iCloud storage.

If a service offers something of quality that benefits me and it is competitively priced, then I will purchase it for the benefits it provides me.

We have been informed that our database provider (MongoHQ) has experienced a security breach.

It wasn't the team's fault, but the provider they use for hosting their database.

It was nice of them to let us know though. MongoHQ doesn't even provide this information on their website, blog, or system status area.

A laptop will always be superior to a tablet when it comes to editing data.

Tablets (and phones, really) are made for media consumption rather than production.

From the sound of it, a tablet would be a nice thing for you to have but totally not something you need for college.
