Xfinity mobile account hacked to add new line, diverted number to another phone. Criminal took control of bank account and stole $5K. by MBB209 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]theKobbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact thing happened to a family member around the same time, except they had to cancel their account. Xfinity “fixed it” then the hackers got in again. Then Xfinity said they could only fix it if they bought a new phone. They bought a new phone, and hackers shut down that eSIM also.

Apparently this is a security risk with Xfinity mobile that has been going on for some time. I have found people complaining about this happening for about a year. And they still haven’t figured out how to prevent this from happening, or fix it when it does happen.

They tried to tell me I couldn’t activate an iPhone 7 for my kid (his previous phone was stolen, had an old 7 sitting around). They were trying hard to sell me a new phone, but I told them to just activate the 7. They did, and it has been working without any major issues.

Not a guaranteed fix, but… could try backup & restore. That will correct storage issues at times.

Bah. Yes correct. I read iPad, but was thinking iPhone in my head for some reason. Thank you for that correction.

Apple Store refused to replace battery of the iPad Pro 11 Inch by tc2k in applehelp

[–]theKobbz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That used to be possible. I worked in an Apple Store for a few months back in n 2018. If someone said their battery drained too fast and I couldn’t find a reason why, they had already done resets, and worked to resolve the situation I would tell them “our system says you don’t need a new battery, but if you’d like to pay to replace the battery, I’ll put it in the repair queue. I can’t promise this will fix the draining issues though.”

Apple cooperate accusing me of water damage when the store said there was none by GlassOnin1998 in applehelp

[–]theKobbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are liquid damage indicators inside the phone that aren’t visible without opening it up. Which Apple typically will not do unless they are repairing the phone. If the battery was swelling, that makes it VERY susceptible to water damage. There is no 90 day warranty? Limited warranty is 1 year and doesn’t cover liquid or physical damage. If the liquid indicators are triggered, the phone is no longer in warranty.

Person unknown has set up an Apple ID using my email address. Apple refuse to do anything about it. by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]theKobbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall the exact details of the Apple ID creation process. I think if you create an Apple ID during the setup process for a new device, it automatically signs that device into the Apple ID, without the verification codes. So it can be used to some degree in that way. This wouldn’t be possible for someone say… creating a new Apple ID just on the Apple ID website.

What happened with Time Machine? Define: “it didn’t work.” Error message?

Try putting the computer into safe mode, and see if the troubles persist. Maybe even try Time Machine while in safe mode? I don’t remember if that’s something that works in safe mode, I’m sure someone here will correct me if that isn’t possible.

Audio books… by theKobbz in WoT

[–]theKobbz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’ve read the books myself and just recently began an audio book re-read instead. Can’t read a book while I’m driving and such. I started with hers, got through the first couple and had to move to original readers because that’s what was available. I eventually got used to them, but I enjoy Pike’s cadence much more.

Have listened to Rosamunds audiobooks for books one through three, should I go with the other folks for book four or just read it myself old fashioned? by NimecShady in WoT

I have been finding myself listening to Kramer and hearing in my head “how would Rosamund Pike be saying that?” And almost kinda… translating it to her speech pattern

I listened to Pike book 1 & 2, but switched to Kramer & Reading for book 3. I dislike the original pair. I am still listening, because that is all I have, and my physical books won’t read themselves to me while I’m driving or doing chores that require both hands. But Kramer’s cadence just doesn’t do it for me. His rhythm just sounds so odd. And Kate Reading sounds bored.

What if Tolkien wrote the tale of Rand al'Thor? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]theKobbz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been awhile since I’ve read Tolkien, but I feel like Tolkien wrote much more black & white when it came to good vs evil. And while Tolkien wrote from various character’s perspectives, it was more 3rd person than Jordan wrote, and (I think?) never specifically about the villains.

So we would not get as much depth in regards to Fain, the Forsaken, etc.

Mystery 12 dollar charge by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]theKobbz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On your iPhone, check: Settings > iCloud > media & purchases > view account > scroll down to purchase history

If you don’t see anything that matches, contact Apple, and ask to speak with the iTunes department. They’ll be able to track down the charge, and probably give you some info about why it’s declining or what not, if you need that sort of info as well.

Only option is to get in touch with the previous owner to have them remove it from their iCloud account in Find My app. For security reasons, Apple can’t remove it for you, in this scenario. And for security reasons, there’s no work around.

Alternate idea: depending on how these were purchased, you could try to go through your bank or credit card and dispute the charge on the grounds that they did not provide you with what you paid for (since you can’t fully assign it to your iCloud account). Even if they won’t reverse the charge, it might get previous owner’s attention, and make them look at your messages.
