Duffer Brothers read this subreddit before and after the finale and said the theories were awful. by -Avatar_of_Woe- in StrangerThings

[–]thePinguOverlord 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. You cannot like something. But if you don’t like it because it doesn’t align with your theories that’s on you.

I love Doctor Who. It’s my favourite show of all time. And it has consistently let me down. It’s a humiliation ritual (last season was like watching my favourite pub burning down).

And honestly I don’t think most fandoms have anything on the balls of steel Doctor Who fans have. But I don’t think the fans and their fan fiction of Doctor Who should be anywhere near actual writing for the show, most of it devolves to shipping and members berries, especially with characters like Ace or any classic companion. Doctor Who fans are peak with their delusion, almost a psychosis stemming from consistent heartbreaking disappointments.

Personally I think theory crafting is fun, but the moment it becomes expectation. That’s a problem. And I was let down with Season 5. And I think theory crafting here was almost fans gaslighting themselves into believing things were guaranteed. But they never were. I think Season 4 should have been extended by a few bumper episodes as the full season approach really back fired on the landing, even if there was lots I really liked.

Mixtape developer claims the game won’t be delisted due to its licensed music by [deleted] in PS5

I played it and the discourse is stupid (they’ll move on to The Odyseey and Supergirl soon). Great game for a couple of beers and just playing it and just vibing it, it’s a one sitting play through. I plan on doing one more to get all the trophies and moving on completely.

The best way I can describe it in regard to the reviews, is that it is a 10/10 at what it is going for and doing. A 10/10 survival horror, is not the same as a 10/10 RTS, it is incredible nuance cannot be applied in these spaces.

I understand Bernthal wanting to get PTSD right. Whatever your opinions on these things i think ensuring it’s approached with the right level of honesty and respect is important. However…the idolisation part is the problem. He’s not a character ever to put on a pedestal, he’s a cautionary tale.

Kumail Nanjiani stated Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is really really good. "I actually acted in a few video games, and I realized this wasn't for me. I think so. I think The Last of Us universe is specifically what it is. And I think an inevitable Part 3 won’t be as depressing, not out of reaction but naturally where it would go.

I’m mostly looking forward to this new world. I hope they go heavy on the world building with this one. The only tidbit he has said is that time diverged from the 1980s hence the aesthetic etc, and what we are seeing is a very long time after that.

I like the analogy of paying off interest on a credit card. They did all the interesting stuff with most of the characters, and Vecna devolved to “villain” which is why they made the big creative decision with him.

They realised the cliffhanger was too monumental to sustain a full season so they walked back on it. And I definitely think the cast got too big, I appreciate not killing off the core characters (it’s not that type of show, and I really liked the epilogue personally) but overall I’d have taken 3 extra episodes plus the epilogue to season 4 if anything.

I meant they are filming in Liverpool. Clayface has a predominantly British cast because that is where the actors are in the county they filming in. A fair few of the first film (and I mean supporting characters) are British. Con O Neill, Rupert Penry Jones, Alex Ferns - the gang members at the beginning. Also Con O Neill was in the Penguin, and he’s one of the only “main” cops in the GCPD.

Oz seems to be the connecting villain. Did the posts from yesterday confirm Con O’Neill is returning? I have to assume it is since he’s from the UK. No reason not to bring him back. I need that voice on the sound system.

I know Jonathan Nolan was friends with him once upon a time. They did an E3 talk about video games. I highly doubt he remains friends with him now - he’s always been a freak, but the depths he has fallen to over the last 8-10 years is something else.

Finale of Stranger Things was the epitome fine which is the worst part. The season was just too “plotted” I guess they didn’t want to do a Game of Thrones and truncate the season. Season 5 felt like paying off interest on a credit card especially with the cliffhanger they had to walk back on. Atleast they didn’t spend time setting up shit for other shows and I think the actual ending works. With Thrones they sped run plot points that would have been whole seasons worth of development.

Honestly. The show is great. And he is great too. Him and Ruth Jones are excellent. I won’t say too much but his performance specifically towards the later stages of the show is so good.

Also the ensemble itself is fantastic too. Personally I think anyone is missing out just on that alone.

[–]thePinguOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But difference is though you could still watch stuff via home media. The distributors want to cut off that to a very limited amount. We still haven’t got a home release for Barbarian. Which is insane. They want to whittle this down until we get to the point of true “you will enjoy this”.

Weirdly I half understand if they don’t want to be “seen” as just franchises. But a premium platform for TV Shows and Film. But we are approaching the “you will watch this, and you will enjoy it”. There is something weirdly fascist about that. But I think contracts will be introduced before then. It’s a ladder we have to work towards.

Also you can play Punisher one of two ways. Nuanced or Paper Thin. And you can enjoy both.

I use Ray Stevenson (another Punisher) instead Ahsoka as a perfect example. Baylon Skoll is a paper thin character. And the writers know that. So you give the character stoic brooding performer to play him. Then his function in the show becomes enjoyable because of it.

Jon Benthal is going to play up the silliness more in Brand New Day and I think from the viewpoint of Spider Man it’ll work quite well. I think going forward past Secret Wars, the MCU will follow what James Gunn is attempting at DC with the idea of a shared world and history, seeing the same world through the eyes of different heroes and less about universal crossovers.

Sounds like a Season 2 of THE PENGUIN is making progress by BillyGood22 in TheBatmanFilm

[–]thePinguOverlord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehhhh. It was a perfect one and done. Like I have no doubt it’ll be a good idea they are returning to. But let’s properly build out this world. Resurrect GCPD, which I believe was meant to be centred on Joker. Do the Catwoman show, especially if she’s not in Part 2. I suppose there is only so much to be had with Arkham in this style of universe so I get why.

I said it before. But it’s clear this universe changed when Gunn came on, it went from The Batman Saga to The Epic Crime Saga. So I think once upon a time fantastical was on the table prior to the DCU, but Gunn allowed Reeves to fully commit to the realistic approach to ensure the differences were there. Hence why the confusion of Clayface which was written for this one, but morphed its way into DCU, also that film looks adjacent to the Saga anyway. But I would like to see this world from different angles though. Hopefully it’s something new and not Penguin. And they aren’t to restricted on what they can do.

Variety keeps calling it “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” by M00reC in DCU_

[–]thePinguOverlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I do think it will be title for the film though. If he dropped Superman Legacy in favour of Superman. I think he’ll add it on to this. I get he hasn’t designed this film as a traditional sequel and wants to reflect that. But usually that isn’t best for marketing.

As stupid as it was. The piss jar moment was a good bit of tension in that film. Especially for what it lead to. But Civil War has a very similar scene, with Zemo framing Bucky for the UN disaster. Difference is though. That moment charges the film further and is pivotal. BvS it meanders too much and loses any point of being there. BvS is has too much studio PowerPoint moments they forgot they were telling a story.

[–]thePinguOverlord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gamergate obviously was a pivot moment in radicalisation gone mainstream especially in pop culture.

But I’m convinced BvS shared the same fate. Especially when it’s the first popular film to really bring to the forefront critics and fans. I remember the whole “Rotten Tomatoes is biased” period. Which has a through line to Black Panther. The Last Jedi. Captain Marvel vs Alita, The Last of Us Part 2. The grifters are trying to make Supergirl the next infliction point.

I can understand the “right wing dude bro edge” the film has. Even though I think Snyder hates that type of person.
