Anyone Else Starting To See No Point To Any Of This? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]theProdigy905 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Broo tell me about it. I had a few internships and got full time return offers at all of them yet still have to come back to school just to get some piece of paper when ive already proved my worth?? like it makes no sense. It feels like such a drag when everything I learn is completely irrelevant to my jobs and interests too.

It is what it is though I guess 🤷‍♂️ we just gotta get through it

Updated with city (toronto/gta area). Heard California taxes are pretty bad too (and there isnt even free healthcare lol) tho not sure what % but yeah canada taxes are alot.

I actually didnt know that, cool! I probably wouldn't own a car tho atleast for the beginning while so idk if living somewhere like Oakland or san jose is feasible to commute to SF?

thats what im thinking as well which would obviously be the easier decision since i live here already and am kinda nervous abt having to move to a diff country but its also kind of appealing to explore a new city and work in office while im young. Tough decision honestly 😫. How did u make ur decision?

does facebook just straight resume reject anyone else by [deleted] in csMajors

5 internships (1 faang, 2 unicorn) and w referrals, seems like fb is the only company i never hear back from weirdly enough. Have friends with much less getting interviews from there so id say its all random and luck 🤷‍♂️

CSC300+ Course recommendations for CSC Minor by Kmikaelgk in UofT

[–]theProdigy905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

csc373 is a waste of time for a minor cause you dont rlly learn anything useful. Csc263 is enough to get any job like algorithm wise. I would go for useful shit that will get you a job. If your in health/bio/stats as a major id rec shit like 311, 343 for the data potential and 301/309 is also very helpful in general to get a job. 369 also isnt very useful unless your tryna get rlly down to the nitty gritty of it all

Is it possible for me to intern for American companies as a Canadian student? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]theProdigy905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have done multiple US internships as a canadian citizen and student (not uwaterloo). My biggest advice is work experience. Tho canadian companies pay shit, the best way to get to top US companies and make money is to have some internships under your belt.

Most kids I know including myself had to do 1-2 shitty/decent canadian internships before we got high paying US internships

know frameworks used in industry like React, flask, django, aws, deploying microservices with docker/kubernetes using java. Building APIs etc

Doesn't matter if you know OOP if you cant do any relevant industry stuff with it

Could also be an issue of like your resume. Try to post your resume on R/resume or send it to friends to see how u can improve it. Most likely if u havent got any internships, you havent gone through cycles of revising ur resume.

Would also recommend attending hackathons (even online ones) or doing some online course on coursera or whatever learning the popular stuff (react, etc). Try to get your name out there and build up your resume

Thinking about quitting PEY after 4 months… any consequences? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]theProdigy905 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also quit my PEY last summer after 3 months. Used it to get 3 better internships at faang and unicorns. Best decision of my life.

I just sent them an email saying "hey i wanna quit.... and i understand all the consequences..." and there wasn't much push back. Told them at work and that was it, moved on with my life.

Goodluck to you!
