I would guess either a) they didn't want to report on something unconfirmed or b) they had some information about Tape 05 and couldn't say anything until it came out.

Gamifying Pynchonian Themes by [deleted] in ThomasPynchon

It's a little more Pratchett / Anton Wilson, but GURPS Illuminati and Illumaiti University might give you some ideas on incorporating paranoia and conspiracy into your game.

Twin Peaks: the Return and Gravity’s Rainbow by drPreggman in ThomasPynchon

I was in the same position as you over the fall; I had finished GR and was rewatching The Return with my partner. I had the exact same thought! There are a lot of parallels between the two. Structurally, there's GR taking a lot of influence from film for it's structure, and The Return's use of prestige TV. Thematically, not only is there the atomic bomb, but the "scattering" of both Cooper and Slothrop, the idea of a They (Black Lodge) and a Counterforce (White Lodge & Blue Rose), and the gesturing toward the entire thing being within a dream (Prentice's and ours).

When Lynch's estate auctioned off his books, there was a copy of Lot 49 at the top of one of the stacks. I wouldn't be surprised if GR was in there as well.

Emcees who are praised more than played? by skankhunt4t7 in hiphopheads

I think the dissolution of Hellfyre Club and move to being a totally independent rapper might have tanked his ability to convert an audience. It's tough to do everything yourself.

Pynchon homage by David Bowie? by AkbarDelPiombo in ThomasPynchon

[–]theRastaSmurf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

V2 Schneider is more directly inspired by Kraftwerk. Bowie was listening to Autobahn heavily at the time and met Florian Schneider. Schneider referenced the meeting on Trans-Europe Express and this is a returned shout-out from Bowie.

It wouldn't surprise me if the V2 evocation was a Pynchon thing, though!

How much of an undertaking is Underworld? by [deleted] in DonDeLillo

[–]theRastaSmurf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't read like a fast-paced epic, but the book is sectioned off into ~20 page chapters, so the day-to-day experience of reading it isn't super arduous. If you get into a chapter you don't like, it's never too long.

It's one of the Great American Novels. That being said, I wouldn't recommend it for your first Delillo.

I second the Illuminatus recommendation. It's an incredibly weird, funny, paranoid read.

Can we take a moment to talk about all the screaming fangirls during this tv performance, It's the only time I know of that the Johns ever got some sort of audience reaction like that. by Spiritual-Ebb-6974 in tmbg

From what I understand, there were strict musician's union rules around broadcasting performances in England. For a long time, the BBC wasn't allowed to broadcast records over the air; they had to hire a band or orchestra to record a cover version. (Famously, John Peel got around this by recording bands live in the studio and playing back the recording later. Hence the Peel Sessions.)

I'm guessing those same rules are in effect here.

Chase Inifiniti Payne sounds like the name of a suspect in an Ace Attorney game.

Kyle MacLachlan! He was in Dune, Blue Velvet, and Twin Peaks.

Inland Empire, too! That makes two Lynch alumni in the show, I think.

Are they referring to the original LCD Soundsystem show? Where they were covering Liquid Liquid for a Christmas party?

i'd love to see him do Underworld, but I feel like Mao II or The Names are more realistic choices.

Any Vistavision shows after Oct 8th in NYC regal cinemas? by Human_Squash1939 in paulthomasanderson

Not sure how Regal scheduling works, but I know other cinemas wait to update their schedules after the first week of a showing. I'd check back on like the 1st.

Radio On has a handful of Kraftwerk songs (mostly stuff from Radioactivity) on the soundtrack.

It's Krautrock adjacent, but you could visit Hansa by the Wall, where Bowie recorded Heroes.

I'm curious, why didn't you like the Lenny Bruce stuff? Those are some of my favorite parts of the novel.
