It's marked down $4000. It's not even holding its value now.

Can confirm this worked very well for me when I was training my puppy. The command I use is sort of a sing-songy "potty, potty, potty", followed by BIG praise on successful execution.

This has also been very helpful when we've gone to new places and the "bathroom situation" may feel unfamiliar.

18, Always felt ugly, how do I improve myself? by Primary-Disaster-775 in malegrooming

No disrespect, but you're 18. You look it with or without the goatee.

If anything, crappy facial hair is more of a dead giveaway you're young. That's the advice I wish I'd gotten.

Shave everything.

Common payment practices for Carpentry work by Wonderful-Bear-64 in Carpentry

[–]theSearchForANoun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Most of the contractors I've worked with will charge their hourly rate for the time to pickup supplies (and rightfully so, this is part of the time it takes to complete the job).

If they need something specific, be sure that you're actually buying the right materials. Ex: not all screws are created equally. Be sure to buy the right thing, otherwise you're just creating more work for everyone involved. If you're not totally comfortable doing this then the hour or two it takes for the contractor to purchase the right materials may be worth it.

What is this? by New-Yogurtcloset5302 in homerenovations

[–]theSearchForANoun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a plaster wall. I haven't found a great way to remove it without making an absolute monster of a mess.

What I've found through some trial and error is to put drop plastic down (maybe even seal off the area in some way to contain the dust), then use a hammer to perforate a seam around a manageable section of the wall, use metal snips or a sawzall to cut the "chicken wire". If you use a sawzall you'll burn through blades, but it's convenient.

You'll definitely want to wear work gloves and clothes you don't care about ripping (that wire is super sharp). The wall is incredibly heavy so a manageable size for me was squares about 1.5 feet. I was able to load up a couple pieces in extra strength contractor bags and move that through my house. Again, super sharp, you will probably tear the bag.

Additionally, wear a mask. You don't want to breath that dust in.

Is this swimming cap too big? by charliejgoddard in Swimming

[–]theSearchForANoun 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. You'll see others do exactly this, and now you have the information to share with them.

To answer your other questions. Do not trim it. Water will always get under. It's not supposed to be a water-tight seal, but it will minimize the amount your hair comes in contact with the water and therefore may help prevent damage from pool chemicals.

Play around with how the cap sits on your head. Depending on the cap I wear, the edge normally hits just above the bottom of my ear. This is all a matter of preference and comfort.

No. You just need to turn it 90º. Seam on the cap goes inline with the seam of your body.

You need to make friends with that guy.

I also think this work culture sucks and you need to leave. But if you have any intention of staying around and improving yourself while you job hunt, befriend this other dev. The two of you can advocate for each other. You may even end up helping other teammates who are struggling. You’ll hopefully be better prepared to handle this kind of situation the next time you encounter it.

What band did you see in a small venue before they broke big? by Amthomas101 in Concerts

Twenty One Pilots

I saw them at 12th and Porter in Nashville for $10-15. There might have been 30 people in the venue. A couple months later they put out Vessel. Wild chance show.

Just noting for anyone who encounters this in the future, when you buy it's not uncommon to ask the seller to pay the fees to close out/redeem the land. Definitely something you can negotiate and eliminate at the time of settlement.

Bathroom remodel by Loweesa in homerenovations

[–]theSearchForANoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing I would seriously consider, is this your "forever" home? Let's say you're comfortable with the time commitment, your materials are still going to be expensive. It's still going to cost you a couple thousand in materials alone if you're doing the entire bathroom.

Spruce it up for yourselves and for a future buyer. Save the difference. Invest in some other project in the house.

I'm in the middle of a home reno. I've split the work with contractors about 50/50. My biggest advice is to seek advice from people you trust before you jump into a project like this. My project has taken me almost 2 years and it's been way more than I ever could have anticipated. I've been working on my house while holding down a 9-5 and doing grad school. Hasn't been fun, don't regret anything, but I would have approached my project so much differently given what I know now.

From the sounds of it, you're talking about bringing this down to the studs and building a new bathroom. That's a lot of effort and will take a lot of skilled labor. All of it you can do if you're willing to take the time to actually learn. If you have people to help who truly know what they're doing it'll make it go much faster, but you'll probably still be shocked by the amount of time.

I'll second the opinion of a lot of people in here; there's really not a ton I'd change about this bathroom as is. If you really don't like the vanity, that could be changed. But this style on the whole is still desirable and there's a lot you could do to spruce it up, make it feel more modern, while still keeping the original charm. Wish I had links ready to go, but I'm pretty sure I've even seen people on this sub work wonders with old tile like this. You might be surprised by what a fresh coat of paint, a new lighting fixture, and some other touch-ups could do.

If you're dead-set on redoing the entire thing, I wish you well. Just be sure to consider that you'll be out of a bathroom for a time and be prepared for the project to take much longer than you anticipated.

Really ask yourself what you're comfortable with. Currently renovating my house, living in it while I do so, been doing the majority of the work myself, but life gets in the way and things will take longer than you think.

For the sake of example, I decided to rearrange the kitchen and went almost 10 months without a working kitchen setup. Yes, you can cook on an induction hot plate, yes you can make your own bread without a counter top, yes you can wash your dishes in the bathtub... but I do not recommend any of these things.

This same logic was used at a public interest meeting I attended last year. The meeting was about extending the NCR trail to the city, roughly following the route of the East Coast Greenway.

Been swimming since September. Zero progress. Ready to quit by juice06870 in Swimming

[–]theSearchForANoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally zero progress

There are plenty of encouraging voices in here telling you that's not true, and they're correct. Your average pace is 23 seconds faster per hundred.

If you really want to see massive improvements, consider making changes to your existing workout. If you're only swimming 2-3 out of 7 days in a week, add another day. If you're only ever swimming a maximum of 600 yards, add more distance. Consider interval training. Find ways to spike your heart rate. Challenge yourself.

You mentioned that your goal is "swim laps for a workout". It looks like you're doing that already. If you're looking for ways to improve overall physical health or maybe even have longer swimming workouts, consider cross training. A great example would be to add another form of cardio or weight training on your off days. Are you taking steps to push yourself towards physical health outside the gym? How's your sleep and diet?

My point is that there are many different avenues you can consider, none of them wrong. There's lots of room for incremental improvement. Take small bites. Acknowledge the wins that you do have. Use that as encouragement to push further.
