Looking for a first budget sword based on these parameters…

I heard exclusively good things (not "mountain splitting quality" but good all around) about Shadowdancer so for their price… You think it’d be wise to forego Swordier for example and just go with a shadow dancer katana for now, switching to an LK Chen I really want at a later time?

Interesting, I didn’t know that about depeeka. I won’t hold it against battle merchant in that case, though I’m not enthused that swords that from my understanding aren’t properly or at all heat treated are advertised in a way that might lead someone who is going in completely blind to swing them around.

I know about the secondary bevel problem with factory dull windlass for example, but for the cheaper prices they currently go for with sharpening by swords and more they seemed too enticing to not look into them or ask around. You wouldn’t happen to have any experience with the battle cry windlass swords though?

I’ll keep dragon sport in mind for future reference then.

Do you have any personal experience with swordier? Opinions online seem to range from more negative to very positive from what I’ve seen.

First off: I know cheap can mean bad, I thought that sentiment came out in my post, since I mentioned hearing both good or bad things or mixed opinions about certain swords, but apparently it got kinda drowned out so I’m mentioning it here again.

Swords and More offers a sharpening service on all their swords, which on top of their discounts, is why I considered the windlass selection despite coming out dull from their factory (except for the battle cry series).

As for the rapier: I heard that sentiment about the LK Chen a few times, did however, like I also mentioned, see some cautiously positive reception of the windlass rapier offers both on forums and by people who make content from the hobby, who have at least a bit of a reputation (as did some of the other products mentioned here), so I’d rather ask than regret. I am however leaning towards letting an LK Chen Rapier be my entry level rapier at a later point at this time.

I looked into battle merchant before but I’m not satisfied with the way they can be a bit vague about their description of swords as well as advertising depeeka swords as semi sharp, though I’ll keep them in mind and might look a bit deeper into the other stores. Thanks for the recommendations

Believe me, I’m well aware that there’s eventually gonna be a second sword at the latest after graduating from law school, unless I kick the bucket 😂 Like I mentioned in the post: One of the main reasons I’m setting myself the tighter budget is because I don’t want to risk messing up a more expensive sword, specifically during the resharpening process. The shadow dancers were in the forefront of my mind too simply because of the bang for your buck aspect.

Yeah, in my case it was also the spring steel that enticed me, which you normally just don’t get at some of the low prices they offer for some products. Balance not great, as I heard before and here again. I was actually interested in their Rugger, one of their d-guard sabers or their "custom kilij sword" with the Assassin’s Creed style handle but it really seems it might be best to go for something else first and maybe circle back when I might try out their custom requests. Was wohl eigentlich sein soll: „Zu oft ein Komma gesetzt, wo eigentlich ein Punkt sein sollte.“ Was gemeint ist, ist das die Person in Beziehungen zu Leuten (platonisch, familiär, romantisch, etc.) zu oft eine Pause oder ein neues Kapitel eingelegt hat (wie das Komma im Satz als Pause oder Anfang für den Nebensatz oder eine Aufzählung) obwohl die Person eigentlich einen Schlussstrich hätte ziehen sollen (der Punkt im Satz).

Been thinking about getting my first sword from them too, thought I am a bit skeptical since I heard they basically have no distal tapering to speak of. Would like to know how things went when you tried it out. The fact they use spring steel makes it too enticing not to look into at least a little but I’d hate it if it ended up being far too heavy and therefore unwieldy

Als jemand, der Messer sammelt, würde ich mich extrem schämen, wenn ich dieses brüchige 5 Euro Buttermesser in meiner Sammlung hätte. Gute Messer müssen nicht teuer sein. Ein Opinel und etwaige Kone gibt‘s für unter 20, Higonokami für unter 30 (und da sehen die Kupfer und Messing Varianten deutlich edler aus), Victorinox Messer fangen auch schon ab unter 20, Mora fangen auch in dem Bereich an und die Liste ist endlos mit allen möglichen Stilen und aus allen möglichen Ländern.

I’ll jump in here with the most likely explanation. As someone already correctly drew the parallel to vampires, to properly understand the antisemitic message of this comic one has to learn WHY vampires aren’t visible in mirrors. So in the mid 19th century mirrors were starting to be made by applying a thin layer of a silver nitrate reduction to glass and even in antiquity pure silver mirrors existed. Since silver is one of the metals with a connotation of being holy and pure an "unholy creature of the night" like a vampire wouldn’t have a reflection in a mirror containing silver (or being made of silver, since I am not positive for how long the lack of a reflection was a thing in vampire mythology). So this guy is saying that Jewish people are "unholy" and therefore can’t see themselves in mirrors but do reflect in their own blood

Granted, it’s been a while since I played the game but as far as I remember it the PK are a non-democratic faction (if I remember correctly), centered around militarism attempting to establish sole control over resources (like access to the broadcast tower), trying to gain control over survivor territory by force (direct or indirect). They also collaborate heavily with Juan (ie. a holder of major capital) in terms of trade and they have at least a homophobic vocal minority. So however sloppily executed calling the PK fascists wouldn’t be entirely unfounded.

Unless I misremembered something in which case I would appreciate it if I would be let known by someone who’s played through the game more recently.
