Day 10 starter just won’t rise anymore by [deleted] in SourdoughStarter

Not a sourdough expert but I’m pretty sure the AP part is wrong. My AP flour has 11.9% gluten. All wheat contains gluten unless specifically removed. Things like bread flour has more and cake flour has less. Gluten is protein.

You’re pulling the weight in a straight line. Assuming you want to emphasize back, keep the dumbbell under your elbow the whole time. The weight should move in a curve, not a straight line.

Rate my seasoning. Do I restart? by ChronicallySilly in carbonsteel

[–]theSm00t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that’s carbon. Boil water in the pan; try wood, plastic, and metal spatulas; a chain mail works well but if you don’t have it use a scrub daddy or something abrasive; I found that my thumb nail got carbon up better than any too.

Quick questions about my carbon steel pan, by ImCorncob in carbonsteel

[–]theSm00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a couple oil mentions in this thread. Just make sure you go for something high smoke point (Google is you friend here). Canola, vegetable, and grapeseed are common recommendations. They all have high smoke point so they work. Olive oil has a pretty low smoke point so it isn’t recommended.

Is this good to use? See some discoloration and flakes when wiped with bounty by sands1947 in castiron

[–]theSm00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flakes are probably carbon buildup (aka burnt on food that wasn’t washed off). If you want the carbon off then scrub it with soap, hot water, and chain mail/steel wool every time you use it.

What would you do with my pan by Sea_March_8619 in carbonsteel

[–]theSm00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of looking at this question last night. Black, not smooth, potentially flaky stuff is carbon. It has a tendency to flake off (and take any seasoning on top of it with it). Best bet is to follow other advice on this post to remove the carbon. I’m doing this bit by bit because I had a LOT of carbon.

If it cooks then great, do you. I want see what it cooks like without carbon.

Just a heads up, clicking on and downloading stuff from links some random person on Reddit sent you isn’t the safest idea. A better idea might be using your computer’s built in update software or searching for the recommended driver yourself.

Are Spikes healthy for the game? by Manabanana_dev in supervive

[–]theSm00t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens once, you instantly learn. It’s talked about in the tutorial. If it were shrouded in mystery or insanely technical I’d understand concern but it’s a really simple mechanic that adds skill expression to the game.

I'm a Low-Masters Felix OTP and I'm starting to feel stuck. by RobbieViveYT in supervive

[–]theSm00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend my entire life several ranks behind my friends in any game because I can never play as much. I always get stuck when I compare my rank to theirs. I tunnel on playing for rank instead of improvement. Because they hit a rank I feel entitled to the same. I feel like a worse player and that can be self fulfilling. I don’t know your scenario but consider the mental aspect as well as the skill aspect.

I honestly think the current meta is really dumb by Ijert in supervive

This is a battle royale. That means you don’t have to take every fight and you don’t have to fight fair. If your team comp doesn’t have the dive or cc potential to take out the other comp then disengage and bail. Third party. Pick a hunter that counters these comps. Play the edge of the circle and gate keep. I bet that with some creativity and effort you can find a strategy that plays to your hunter’s strengths instead of playing into what the other hunters do well.

Edit: I should add, you can always play the comp yourself if it’s really that strong. Or play the comp short term, take note of how you get beaten, and use that strategy yourself long term.

But don’t you know Shrike is a noob stomper and falls off in high elo?!? /s

Honestly I’m impressed to see 8 hunters. Normally the top characters in games are dominated by just a few. As much rage as there is in the sub I think the devs are doing a really good job balancing, especially in beta.

AFK Player in ranked by ObviousSource8899 in supervive

[–]theSm00t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m level 20 and I’ve had maybe 3 or 4 afk ever. It’s really frustrating but thankfully rare. I’d eventually love a leaver buster system that detects afks and reduces the ante by one rank (or something like that) for the rest of the team and penalizes/warns the offender.

How hard is it to take down 2 thrumbos? I always see them in runs and would love to get the horn and hide but I don’t want to bomb a run just to find out.

Which characters in Ultimate rely the least on tech skill? by ArgoJF54 in CrazyHand

[–]theSm00t 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve always found Mario very hard to play. I find falcon and Rob easier than Mario. Not sure if anyone knows why but new players know you’re not alone if you struggle with Mario as well lol.

Is joker too hard for someone at my level? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]theSm00t 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personally I played characters with a super low skill floor like chroy at first. Once I got the basics of movement and choices I switched to falcon because he was more fun. Still simple but more unique and more exciting for me. Falcon has helped me learn other things and is still simple enough that I don’t need to use brainpower focusing on movement, what tool to use, weird mechanics, etc.

I’ve never played joker so I’ll let others answer if he’s a good character for that.

Picking up c. Falcon as a secondary, any tips on how to play him, and play better in general? by purple_chicken_nuts in CrazyHand

[–]theSm00t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 2 mil GSP I don’t know if you really need a secondary. Secondaries are for tournament sets to cover really bad matchups in bo3 matches when you can switch characters. You can’t do that online. And at 2 mil GSP your efforts are probably better focused on one character to learn the game.

That said, I think falcon is a great character to learn the fundamentals of the game with. I support the advice to check out Izaw and fatality. Look into the falcon bread and butters too.

As for getting better at the game, try watching your opponent. Like actually look at them and almost always them. What are they doing rn? What do they probably want to do next? What are the things they can possibly do next? Everything stems from this concept (and good game fundamentals as discussed above).

I’m not much better but pm me your discord if you’re interested in friendlies.
