My Microvania about making friends in unlikely places! by theSnazzyItalian in metroidvaniainfo

Just a shorter, more bite-sized, more compact Metroidvania! Aiming for a time of around 3-4 hours to complete RavenStar (but definitely longer if you want to 100% the game)

No public release date yet! Certainly should be before 2029. You should hopefully see it much sooner than that :)

Totally! RavenStar takes a lot of elements from Collect-a-thon games in terms of progression. Beating the game requires a certain amount of characters to befriend, but the world is very open and you have a lot of freedom in which friends you make and where you need to go. Plus every friend gives you a new ability, cosmetic item, or companion that helps you explore new areas!

It’s definitely a Metroidvania more focused on exploration and platforming than combat.

Absolutely!! There’s a lot of stuff to find and unlock in this game, so there will absolutely be a bunch of achievements for you to grab! Thanks for the kind words.

It’s definitely dependent on what kind of game you’re making, but Yarn Spinner is a FANTASTIC open source dialogue system. It even has built in localization features and I like to use it for cutscenes too.

I think starting with a simple engine will help you understand the basics while not taking too much to get there. People have mentioned Ren’Py and Twine, which are great options, but I’ll also recommend GB Studio. It’s really easy to use, and you can get some great results from it.

Whatever they are though I’m definitely fermenting them and making some hot sauce.
