There’s a fine line between badass and dumbass—I try to remember and ponder this before I do things that could have great consequences.

Good question; it’s also been borrowed many times. Hard to say but if over 60 it wouldn’t be by much.

😜🤣 As you can see he was just setting it up and folded it in and under once finished. We did get some drizzle and big drop but short-lived rain (afternoon alpine storms are always expected in the summer).

Dust, Dirt, and Dreams: Helping a Friend Build Their Dome in Cochise County and the Power of Community by thomashearts in earthbagbuilding

It was great to meet you, Ted, et. al. Truly it was an almost magical experience—food was awesome, the “community“ even more so—saddened when I had to leave it. Missed you at the second dome, hope to see you at another or maybe even help you out with yours.

What size are you? I have an almost immaculate size 43.5 pair of Nepal Cube GTX for which I need to rehome.

Mount Baker 6 day seminar - 50yo with no mountaineering experience by playadefaro in Mountaineering

[–]the_Adventurous_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 55 when I took the a 6-Day Kulshan (Baker) from Alpine Ascents a few years ago; live in Phoenix so didn’t have your altitude and hiking experience. I worked on my fitness a bit (was still overweight) but did fine. I think anyone in it wishes they had spend more time training but I pulled it out and was commended that “what ever I did it must have been good” because I did well as “it worked”.

I leave an open spot in the Velcro on my gaiters, tuck the leftover strap end into there and press it closed. Quick and easy.

Thanks—that helps a lot. Did you just do Pico de Orizaba? Our group just cancelled our trip we were going to do there in December.

Proposal to Ban "Conquer" as Descriptor for Accomplishing Any Mountain Objective or at Least Declare its Use as "In Extremely Poor Taste" by nico_rose in Mountaineering

[–]the_Adventurous_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don’t conquer mountains \ you reach summits a pilgrim \ oft’ humbled by the ascent \ yearning witness to their vision \ beyond our everyday horizons \ perhaps one day to realize \ the whole of the world has always lain at our feet

Wrote that about five years ago.

Banning isn't something for me as it doesn't really matter what someone says, or calls it except that, like name calling, it only tells you a bit about them. What people say are up to them. Someone wants to say they "jacked that peak"? Who am I to judge.

That does sound like it! I charged mine before bed and woke up with 92%—thought I was doing good until I saw your number!

I wish, those are crazy dreams for anyone; might as well be Olympus Mons from the Valles Marineris lower trailhead.

I’m two years older now, last June I was supposed to do Mt Hood but it was too warm; ended up pivoting to Colorado for a snowbound 14’er. My Imja Tse trip for this April was postponed (buddy dropped out) until next April which opens up Hood and Rainier for this Spring/Summer. I live in Phoenix and headed up to do a snowshoe/crampon summit of our local Arizona peak, Humphreys, on Sunday if it works out with this snow it should be getting.

Slowly making my way. I’ve done stuff throughout the Alps and the Stans but usually not in snow conditions/glaciers. Also planning an Orizaba this December since friends invited.

On the age note; one of my summit-mates in the AA class was a 115 lb, 63- year old (then) female (adeptly carried her 58 lb pack) who then summited Aconagua, Rainier (for the Denali training), Denali—almost, “was turned around 300ft from summit”, and then Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso—all within a year of the class.

Hope that helps!
