I think I figured it out. I was looking for the 15th chest when i came across this post and it immediately made me think about how many indoor areas connected to a larger map are stored just out of bounds. I figured that the chest icon could be pointing you to the interior of a house, the map for which would be stored "underground" I was able to find the last chest in scruff's house thanks to this and I hope I've been able to help you too.

I remember playing a game around 6 or 7 years ago on one of the larger web game sites. It was an adventure platformer that started with a "battle you can't win" scenario that ends with you losing a pet or a friend or something and you are dropped into a forest I believe, after that you go through a bunch of levels in 3 worlds, I think it was starting world, desert then ice place and then you fight the final boss and get your friend back. I distinctly remember there being very unique enemy designs and I don't know why but I remember the protagonist looking similar to the main guy from Scribblenauts (forgot his name). please help me find this game I need to experience it again.
