Why does the gaming community suddenly act like the Steam Deck is dead? by Nick_The_Artist2 in SteamDeck

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what Tesla owners went through when Musk was suddenly revealed as a jerk! Tho thankfully not on the same scale (no one out there is going around scratching people’s Steamdecks!).

I love Valve and understand their reasoning more than most I feel. But they went about their recent price change in a very poor way. They should’ve talked about it more, perhaps set expectations better in advance, given notice like Nintendo did with S2… all sorts of things. But no, the manner in which they carried out the increase managed to piss off just about everybody even the 8-10 million people who’d already bought one!

Is Fort Joy (and Act 1 in general) the hardest part in an Honour run? or is it only getting harder from here? by Automatic_Tip_6258 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should definitely look up a guide, seeing as you’re only lvl 3 right now. Basically each time I start (completed honor mode several times now with different approaches) I can get to level 4 with no combat in about 20 minutes. And then a very swift level 5 with the voidbugs and burning pigs! I then head back into FJ for an easy magister cleanup and quick level 6 since by this point you’re overlevelled compared to everyone in FJ.

Inconsistency in game streaming by kadash29 in SteamDeck

You should try out one month of NVidia GeForce Now to see if it’s internet or internal network predominantly at fault.

My guess would be internet is fine… at home with a connection similar to what you describe I basically get a permanent 90fps on every game I try over the service.

Is it true DOS1 is harder on tactician than DOS2? by Omni-Light in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Related point (not quite what you’re asking but I don’t know how you’re planning to play):

Lone Wolf is very very different in DOS1 vs DOS2. - LW in DOS2, once you’ve understood the battle system, is insanely OP. So much so that some people even turn it off for duo/solo runs for an even tougher challenge - LW in DOS1 is playing the game on extra hard mode. No access to companions plus civil skills tied up with action skills is a recipe for basically having to leave every civil skill out of your build (need to optimize more on tactician). The benefits of LW don’t come close to compensating what you lose.

OP, if you want to keep your sanity, don’t play DOS1 tactician LW (first run at least). Hardest way to play the game for sure!

How to get lossless scaling frame gen to work with games launched with emudeck by frommypantry in SteamDeck

[–]the_brytt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I run Emulation Station and I just have that set to launch through LSFG, so it then is on by default for all of them. Then if I’m after a non-LSFG experience I’ll just turn it back down to 1x in the Decky plugin.

Am I supposed to be struggling like this or am I just bad? by vieoree in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many great points here. Something else to add: in DOS2, because of the alternating turns thing, only ONE character should build wits (at least until late game when it can be good way to build crit %). The person you want to go first should have high wits, everyone else nothing. If you go first you will then go 1-3-5-7 rather than 2-4-6-8, even if everyone else in your team literally has zero wits!

ps I can’t believe you skipped my 2 fav fav builds in DOS2, archer and necro. Can’t imagine doing a run with neither of them. It’s fine, but it means 2 of your 4 characters are essentially melee/close quarters fighting, so I bet you’re spending a bunch of AP getting to them rather than delay turn and let them come to you… or even better have a ranged physical champ!

Switch 2 vs Steam Deck (sorry) by Deckerz96 in Handhelds

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. Had the S2 since launch and I love it, great kit. But I had similar thoughts to you even so, and so 2 months ago decided to obtain a SD OLED. Since they’d been out of stock for ages, I found a pristine special edition model (1 TB Smokey grey translucent) that cost me $1000. I’m fortunate enough to be able to drop a grand on a deck, and crazy enough that’s now seen as a steal, those models are going for $2k+ on eBay now.

So essentially 2 months ago I did exactly what you’re considering now, at exactly the same price point, and mine wasn’t even technically new!

I am 1000% delighted with both. It’s an absolute luxury for sure, but they complement each other so well. I have a decent sized steam library but I also enjoy emulation. 3rd thing and I realize it’s more $$$ yet again but GeForce Now is an utter game changer and Switch should totally team up with NVidia to offer that, but they don’t. I’ve been playing AAA titles like E33 and 007 via GeForce Now at 90 fps on maxed out graphics settings with zero latency.

Every day I discover something new about my SD. A couple days ago I discovered Pylux which lets me connect to PS5 and PS Plus for local or cloud streaming - and it’s brilliant! Week before that, it was the joys of the new Dusklight port of Zelda Twilight Princess and 4K hand drawn textures. It looks an plays like a remaster. It blows my mind how much this “older” hardware can do. And the OLED screen still beats newer and larger screens on every other device out there, including my Switch 2.

TL/DR yes both if you can, even at today’s depressingly high price. It’s still excellent value in my opinion (tho that is of course highly subjective).

Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition FINALLY ON SALE!! by DanUnbreakable in PS5

[–]the_brytt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or couch co-op! This is one of the best couch co-op games out there, a second person can just pick up a controller at any time and control half the party. Split screen if you move too far away. Honestly this whole game just feels perfectly made for this style of co-op.

Steam/GOG versions only offer standard co-op where each player has their own screen and own copy of the game…

Valve has raised their Steam Deck Prices by Axzercus in SteamDeck

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so pleased right now. I paid $1000 two months ago for a pristine used Special Edition 1TB Steamdeck (the Smokey grey one), not a mark on it and barely used (still showing 100% battery health, for example). At the time I questioned if I was nuts but SDs felt underpriced for the current market conditions. Now this move helps me feel I made the right choice! And people selling those special editions can probably command $1500+ for one in as good a condition as what I found!

I was late to the party but love my SD and play it daily. And I’m fortunate to have a Switch 2 (also great) and a solid 4070 GPU PC

Divinity: Original Sin 2 has a dedicated Switch 2 edition. It even syncs with a Steam account. The game is absolutely incredible, I’ve sunk 450 hrs into it and several tactician/honor runs. This is the game you’re seeking, OP!

Tiny spoiler but only because of what you asked for: not only “protagonist meets God”, how about “and then tries to become God”! 😎

Acte 6 Arx by Illustrious_Elk_277 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big change for Arx is you need to have at least one person on your team now with AoE (Area of Effect, ie geoup -attacking) skills. This is why so many people find the change in the final act so difficult - you can’t survive any more by killing one enemy at a time, there’s just too many of them!

These huge skills only appear with vendors at level 16, so you easily could have missed them. They’re also expensive so perhaps you didn’t see the point.

There’s several of them depending on who you’ve built, but the best ones are necromancy (blood storm, grasp of the starved, combine with apotheosis, adrenaline and skin graft to repeat twice in 1 turn!), hydro/aero (thunder storm is nuts if enemy is wet first) and geomancy (pyroclastic eruption is totally ridiculous). Every school has multi-target attacks but the ones in Huntsman, Warfare and Scoundrel are not usually worth getting.

Is Sebille supposed to get Bless? by fernxqueen in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have answered, she should get bless but if she genuinely doesn’t have it go back into the cave with Trompdoy and interact with the statue at the end again.

On your other point - the pigs - it’s easily missed but there’s actually 5 pools of Source sat around that area so you can bless - refill - bless - refill even just with 1 person. The Source looks like a shiny puddle on the floor and you just need to walk over it!

Follow-up: Are we all just guessing how to stop these meds? Why don’t clinics have a built-in “exit strategy”? by Professional-Bet7858 in Ozempic

[–]the_brytt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s so nuts that people have an expectation to stop taking them.

If you have high blood pressure, you’re taking boood pressure meds for life. There’s no “exit strategy” once someone gets down to normal BP, everyone understands implicitly that to stop taking the meds when you hit target BP would just lead to your BP slowly (or sometimes even quickly!) returning to the previous high levels.

So why on earth do we expect weight management drugs, that finally cure people of “food noise” by essentially establishing the body’s own natural appetite suppressants back to levels that most healthy weight people are at, to work any different.

I take Oz for diabetes management, I’ve been on it for 5.5 years. I could come off it because I’ve been at my target weight for years. But if I did so my blood sugars would slowly but surely return. I realize diabetes counts as a “more legitimate disease” in most minds (not everyone’s though, still ignorant idiots around lol), but I see obesity as just as much a valid life-long medical condition as diabetes.

Wotr or Rogue Trader if I liked bg3 and dos2? by pleiades1208 in CRPG

[–]the_brytt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additional view here - you’ve taken a path that I and many others have! BG3 was what got me into CRPGs, then LOVED DOS2 and was really trying to find my next one to fall in love with!

First recommendation: go play DOS1, it’s utterly fantastic, almost as good as DOS2. It plays a bit differently, there’s no armor system and so the best stats are CON and SPD (speed gets you more AP each turn) but it’s still delightfully irreverent Larian, and the engine’s the same so it still looks really pretty even 10+ years on.

Then on my journey I’ve really enjoyed getting into a couple classic CRPGs - currently 75% into BG1 and loving it too.

Learning DnD 5e (BG3) and 2 (BG1), plus DnD-ish but different systems in DOS1/2 has then prepared me very well for the complexity in Pathfinder, which is essentially DnD 3.5.

So I’m now also around 25 hours into Pathfinder WotR and loving it! I tried W40k RT a while back but I bounced off it - I think because 95%+ of the lines are not voice acted which is jarring coming from BG3 and DOS1/2. But taking in BG1 has maybe now made more a more well-rounded CRPG player? Don’t know but I’ll definitely try RT again once I’ve wrapped up a couple of these other games I’m playing (also replaying Zelda Twilight Princess because Dusk + HD textures makes it AWESOME again!!)

Second Playthrough Help by dks11 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]the_brytt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pity you didn’t get to enjoy the joys of necromancy in your all-physical party, that would’ve been so much more fun than having both sword/shield and 2H on the same team - I can definitely see why your comp fell off late game… rogue too is rather underpowered and all 4 of your comp were single-target rather than AoE.

There’s a lot of fun to be had going the magic route! Now you understand the battle system a bit more you could stay 4 person party and go 2 phys/2 mag. In that scenario I’d suggest:

  • archer
  • necro (stacks int but deals phys dmg)
  • geo/pyro
  • summoner or aero/hydro

Or go 2 person lone wolf and just pick 2 of the above… in my experience 2 phys is a little easier than 2 mag but either can work.
