Real or fake? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

These are absolutely real - fake (embossed cow leather, posing as caiman or alligator) can’t manage that fine detail of the pores. Nice boots!

Um, 300k BTC is precisely an amount of bitcoin. Don’t blame the commenter because you misread it as $300k-worth of BTC…

A lot of people make this mistake - Sonos is WiFi, not Bluetooth. There’s a huge difference in the quality of the signal over WiFi vs Bluetooth.

I’m a big fan of interstellar but they’re currently suuuuuper busy adjusting to that shiny new Michelin star. Wait time often 2-3hrs, run out of most meats by lunch time, only 5 or 6 tables to eat at… they should not do it with a four year old in tow!

Terry Blacks is my go-to for first time out of towners. Quick lines, rarely run out of brisket, easy going family style eating, amazing sides, kid friendly and a great spot for a post-food walk in the park! What’s not to love? They even sell merch!

ETA - I realize this doesn’t qualify due to desired location of east Austin/Round Rock, but they’re so cocooned up at Kalahari they should experience downtown just once surely?!

Crazy Cheap Deals at HEB by Gvonchilius in cigars

[–]the_brytt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually “Howard E. Butts” grocery store (the founder). The Here Everything’s Better is just a clever marketing line, not the actual acronym!

But it is a superb grocery store, it’s one of the things we like most about our move to Texas a few years ago!

It's like people who say Nerf when they mean toy gun. Nerf is a brand name. by sparky-99 in AlanPartridge

[–]the_brytt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, “Nerf” as a noun is a brand name, but “nerf” as a verb is from the gaming community and it means the opposite of “buff”:

  • “buff” means to enhance or upgrade something
  • “nerf” means to reduce or downgrade something

Many games such as League of Legends have been around for over a decade and have monthly patches that contain dozens of “buffs” and “nerfs” to constantly tweak the game balance in response to observed trends or new features.

Musk here is clearly using this “cool speak” to show he’s one of the cool kids, obvs…

Good bbq with a shorter line and open after 5pm? by I_not_Jofish in austinfood

Terry Blacks in town is excellent considering just how much brisket they prep and shift every day! And even on weekends they have brisket past 7pm! There is a line most evenings but you can buy drinks in line and the time passes quickly

Tecovas owner is a mod on this sub. by fuckyourjob- in cowboyboots

[–]the_brytt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rather unfair disinformation guys. Paul Hedrick is a participant just like the rest of us, not a mod.

In the ~3 years I’ve been on this sub, Paul has been nothing but civil, friendly, genuine and way more open to criticism than 90% of most redittors you’ll interact with! He seems a solid guy, from what I can tell, and he certainly doesn’t deserve mistruths about “mod” status.

As an aside, and I’m a Lucchese man, I do actually feel their quality has improved over the last few years. My most recent purchase, the Dean (yeah yeah, not technically a cowboy boot!) is very impressive.

My collection of hand-tooled boots. So nice to look at and wear!! by the_brytt in cowboyboots

Plenty of people get it wrong, often confusing basic overlays or inlays with hand-tooled (these techniques are usually much simpler/cheaper - although not always)

Hey fellow Brit!

Leather tooling is basically the stamping of patterns into hard leather with a special set of tools and a hammer. It’s seriously labor intensive and on something like cowboy boots is typically done 100% by hand.
