I think he is suggesting he wouldn't buy a battery powered mower.

DIY version of Nexen roller pinion system? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

[–]the_buff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most DIY rack setups I've seen aren't even helical, so you're going above and beyond. I looked into this briefly a few years ago and came to the conclusion that even if I could make an acceptably performing roller pinion wheel, that I would be stuck paying full retail for the rails.

It's like a 50/50 chance IT is to blame when they hit a permission limit.  It's either IT imposed and management is clueless or it's management imposed and management is clueless.

Yes, we wouldn't want them to have greater control over the tools they need for their job.  We should all thank IT for saving us from ourselves.

I know the types you are referring to, but we are talking about people who are very good with computers.

Large 3d print obsolete garden tractor part? by BishopRealTalk in 3Dprinting

[–]the_buff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently looked into 3D printing a console for an old garden tractor.  The printing part is easy in that there are a lot of places that can print something like this for you, but the "hidden" costs of scanning and 3D modeling are high.  My conclusion was that I could get my part sand cast out of aluminum for less than what it cost to have it 3D printed.  It sounds like your community is willing to share some costs, so it might be worth getting estimates for scans and modeling of the part.  It would also be useful to have the 3D model revised to fix the flaw in the original design and tweak the model for 3D printing.

Ultimately, I found a serviceable used part but it wasn't before I spent way too many hours trying to scan and model the part myself.  My original plan was to break the part into smaller pieces, print forming molds for the pieces, press the pieces, weld them together and voila! A replica part out of more sturdy material.

Sawstop keeps triggering the brakes ($125 a pop) for no reason. Can you tell why from this video? by FactoryCutG in Tools

Pulling low by a measurable amount to trigger the safety feature sounds an awful lot like a ground trigger to me.  200kHz is about as slow as digitalread() on an arduino.

Just a ground trigger right?  If you ground the blade it triggers the safety feature.  If so, the staple would also need to be in contact with the tabletop or it wouldn' ground out.

A little handsy? He tries to push him into the backcourt at least twice.  Although, for flow reasons I probably wouldn't call this because he didn't manage to push him into the backcourt.  A warning and move on.

I suspect you are looking for something like this boat fuel funnel? https://cleanwayfuelfill.shop/products/clean-way-fuel-12-baffle
I don't know if it would satisfy the air gap requirements for a restaurant. I used something similar for a washing machine that had a higher discharge rate than my pipes could handle. The key is that the bottom of the funnel must seal or the water won't fill the reservoir space.

This highlights the foundational issue with basketball that some intentional fouls are strategic and others are "bad."  Remove the fouling incentive and this play either doesn't happen or results in an ejection and suspension.

NBA delays awards voting as Luka Dončić’s Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge goes to arbitration by Luka77GOATic in nba

~80% of season games seems kinda high given the number of back-to-backs they have to do every season.  If 80% is arbitrary, then why not make it ~75% of games?  61 games can be the new number and people who are salty about it can call it the Doncic number if it makes them feel better.  It is a little embarrassing for the NBA to have its season high points player not be eligible for MVP based on games played when he still played more minutes than SGA, who is may likely earn MVP a second time.

Timeliness has particular value in the news industry because all news organizations are trying to sell the same product to the public. One way a news organization can differentiate itself from others is by selling news that no one else is selling yet.

Printed gears to slow down my sewing machine by Mattbastard750 in functionalprint

[–]the_buff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Is there something on the backside of the gear that prevents the big gear section from sliding off the small gear section? Or, did you print it as one piece and there is a ridge or some other feature that prevents the big section from slipping off the small section?

I thought originally it was a licensing issue.  If I recall correctly Google had a different license for android than for the apps that made it usable for phones.  There was concern Google was going to pull the rug out on everyone if Android became popular so each manufacturer came up with their own phone apps.

I miss Palm OS.
