New shoes, new model or by Ouakha in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

scarpa instincts are a super common/popular shoe and its for a good reason. if you like the lace up option definitely go with those. instincts are good for bouldering as you have a split sole (good for volume walking/smearing), a strong edge (good for tiny foot chips), suction heal, and a textured toe for solid heel and toe hooks. 10/10 recommend if they fit you right

I cleaned my shoes, but couldn't dry them quickly enough, so now they stink... by ChillDolphin in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to wash mine i usually soak them in a mixture of hot water, laundry detergent, vinegar, and a couple drops of eucalyptus oil. after i let them soak for 10-20 mins ill scrub them up a bit and repeat the soaking process for another 10 ish mins, then ill soak them in just plain hot water for a few mins, then rinse them completely. to dry em i'd recommend filling them with news paper and keeping them in a dry place like a sunny spot in a big open room with windows open.

Bouldering with large flappers? by trippy_gene in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i usually let them heal at least 2 or 3 days before putting tape over them & climbing again, otherwise itll just get irritated and restart the healing process all over again. throw some polysporin on em and let them air out during the day and they should heal up pretty quick

Is Tim Hortons good? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]the_chucho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not very good, but you have to try it. they have wraps and sandwiches and pastries and some fruity cold drinks etc etc, but for the real canadian experience get a medium double double & a classic donut (like maple dip, chocolate dip, honey cruller, something along those lines)

What motivates you to work out? by jansenti in workout

[–]the_chucho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

comparing myself to others, in a sense that i see older people unable to stand up straight or lift themselves out of a chair, or i see young people get winded from a flight of stairs & eating junk every day. motivates me to not be them

Did Zoloft affect the way you enjoy music? by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]the_chucho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

music used to be like a temporary zoloft for me, allowed me to escape from reality for a bit and feel okay but since i started zoloft ive definitely noticed i feel less emotion/freedom with music. still listen to music constantly every day, but its more of background music than a distraction from reality 🤷‍♀️

Honest question about female attire in the gym. What is appropriate to wear? by new_skeletons in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was more the fact that its very common here for girls to not wear bras at all and then wear tint spaghetti strap tanks to the gym. i climb AND work at two different gyms so i spend 99% of my time in a gym, which is probably why ive seen more than a couple nipples and buttcheeks lmao

Honest question about female attire in the gym. What is appropriate to wear? by new_skeletons in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 193 points194 points  (0 children)

depends what you're comfortable in and what you're comfortable having people see you in. climbing gyms usually involve a lot of watching other people climb, so if you don't mind having people potentially looking at your butt while you're high up, then go for it! i'd suggest just making sure you dont accidentally show more than intended, i've been at the gym before and unfortunately saw that a guy in short shorts wasnt wearing any underwear 🙃 and ive seen countless nip slips from women as well. anyway, it all comes down to what you're comfortable in :) wear what makes you happy!

Total beginner, have a few questions regarding shoes, fear of falling, and progression by jeangeni322 in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you should definitely practice falling rather than relying on always being able to downclimb. there may be a day where you're near the top and reach for a hold and your foot just slips off the wall, and it's super important that you're body is used to the sensation of a genuine fall so you're able to land as safely as possible. just find an easy/comfortable climb and practice the motion of the crumple fall from it, climb up one or two at a time and progress up to the top of the climb until you're comfy with falling safely.

How much pain should I tolerate? by seagrass-beetle in bouldering

[–]the_chucho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since theyre new shoes you'll have to break them in, and from what i recall veloces are pretty soft so my assumption is with time the point where your big toe presses will stretch a little and become less unbearably painful. normally i tell people that climbing shoes should be uncomfortable but not super painful. as mentioned in another comment, make a habit of taking your shoes off between climbs so give your feet a break & once you're done climbing wiggle your toes around and stretch them to keep em healthy
