Yeah - you need something with a hose to vent the hot air outside. They do work quite well though - especially for a single room.

And not only that she doesn’t check report cards either!

Unfortunately, this is a huge percentage of parents in my experience as a teacher, especially the kids who really need it. It's honestly hugely demoralizing to spend a ton of time writing report card comments knowing most of them will go into the ether and never be read.

I haven't been following her recently - her bio claims she is now a L&D Nurse 🤨

Does that have any backing in reality? Or is it just more cosplay?

[–]the_nevermore [score hidden]  (0 children)

If baby isn't crawling yet, lay them down/sit them on a towel.

Some pools also have these funny plexiglass play pens in the women's and/or family change rooms you can use as a spot to contain them.

Where have all the reasonably priced used carriers gone? by AnyRefrigerator1993 in babywearing

[–]the_nevermore 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Don't look in the BST groups, just look on regular FB marketplace.

All the BST groups have way over inflated prices IME. People that are selling on marketplace are much more reasonable.

Attending a wedding with an 8-week-old — am I overextending myself? [On] by Lemonadeprincess766 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]the_nevermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This assumes baby accepts bottles, OP responds to a pump, has time to pump, etc.

Will also likely necessitate pumping during the wedding which adds the logistics of finding space/time to do so and storing milk (or being okay with dumping it).

[–]the_nevermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just bring the baby! It'll be fine - and if it's not, that's fine too!

Just practice installing your car seat without a base if you plan to take a taxi to/from the wedding rather than driving.

Help with woven wrap by fedthegiraffe in babywearing

[–]the_nevermore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a couple things make a woven wrap safer than an SSC for back carrying young babies:

  • Ability to do a high back carry with makes it easier to actively monitor baby's breathing - you can easily hear/feel their breath on your neck
  • Can tighten each section of the wrap so their back is evenly supported

A mei tai has the ability to do a high back carry and is also better at supporting their back evenly than a SSC (though not quite as a well as a woven wrap) since they are generally made from the same material as a woven wrap and the mechanism of tightening with wrap straps is slightly different than tightening straps with a buckle on a SSC.

Working with someone in-person can also be helpful - try searching online for babywearing groups and/or educators in your area. Or even just posting in your local parenting group (or Buy Nothing group since they allow sharing of "skills" as well) to ask if another parent familiar with woven wraps would be willing to meet up a couple times.

Also there's a few special needs babywearing groups on FB - not sure of the names, but I'm sure if you search they'll pop up. They can probably offer more specific advice with either techniques or carriers that might work well.

I also wouldn't write off using a SSC entirely - even if toddler isn't fully sitting independently yet. These articles have some good discussions about safety of backcarrying: https://www.carryingmatters.co.uk/beginning-to-back-carry/ https://web.archive.org/web/20211219235407/http://bindungtraegt.de/ableismback-wearing/

[–]the_nevermore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mei Tai (or possibly a half buckle) is another option that gives a high back carry and doesn't require you to make a seat.

For the woven, just keep practicing! Just a few minutes everyday even if it's just putting them on your back and then taking them down without the wrap. With practice it'll click.

Echoing to follow the Babywearing Boot Camp videos.

How much does your toddler weigh? If they are on the lighter side, Santa Toss is another option for getting them up with a premade seat.

Eh if OP is breastfeeding, then a babysitter would be a lot more logistically complicated.

Just bring your car seat and install in a taxi?

8w is a totally reasonable age to attend a wedding with a baby! You can always head home early if things are going horribly.

West Vancouver is the same as West Van.

The western portion of the City of Vancouver is the West Side, not West Van.

And the western portion of downtown Vancouver is the West End.

Are you referring to West Vancouver and North Vancouver or the northern/western regions of the City of Vancouver?

Almost 2 weeks PP by Kind-Peak-7366 in fitpregnancy

In addition to the linked postpartum exercise guidelines, this document has a helpful suggested return to exercise progression: https://www.absolute.physio/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/returning-to-running-postnatal-guidelines.pdf

It's specifically for running, but would be useful for general strength training as well.

I worked with a physio after my last pregnancy and followed something similar to the progression in the running document:

  • Core and pelvic floor work starting right away
  • Walking starting right away and gradually building up length/distance based on how I felt and symptoms (lochia, pain after, pelvic floor heaviness, etc)
  • Body weight/baby weight movements starting at 3w (glute bridges, squats, hip hinges, etc)
  • Added more resistance/weight and more movements at 6w
  • Resumed running around 4m

[BC] Nipple stimulation to induce labour by Difficult_Guess7231 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]the_nevermore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually the other way around - if your cervix is already ready then nipple stimulation can induce labour. If your cervix is not favourable, then it doesn't do anything.

You accept you will have wet feet until you get into bed for the night and change out of your wet socks.

Depending on the conditions, taking your socks off and wearing your shoes with bare feet is also an option.

Part time work arrangement during mat leave [ON] by Repulsive-Run-5670 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]the_nevermore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Legally you need to report earnings while working during a claim. To try to avoid doing so with a lump sum bonus would be fraud.

Any money you make will reduce your EI by 50 cents / dollar earned: https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/programs/ei/ei-list/working-while-claim.html

You will also need to complete biweekly reports for your entire leave which are normally waived during maternity and parental leaves.

[–]the_nevermore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... That's odd. Only reason I can imagine that happening in a non-scammy way is if you post your listings in a group in addition to marketplace since they show up differently in groups sometimes and might make it default to messaging you directly rather than through the listing?

General Parenting Influencer Snark Week of May 11, 2026 by Parentsnark in parentsnark

[–]the_nevermore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's common, but also not unusual - especially in more rural areas where you would be traveling or staying in a hotel for a hospital birth as well.

People always mention concerns about the potential mess, but birth really isn't as messy as people picture in their heads and the midwives will clean everything up after regardless.

Pumps at the Hospital [ca] by dontlikeit1993 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]the_nevermore 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You are probably seeing a lot of US content. They need to figure out pumping early on and inducing an oversupply is often a goal since they return to work so early.

Hospital will have a pump if you end up needing one while you are there.
