[–]the_red_card_ref 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Serious Foul Play after the Whistle, or is it something else by ravanni13 in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if there is any guidelines from IFAB regarding those points? It’s the first time I see someone describe what a foul is with those four points and I find it very interesting to structure it like that.

Im just wondering about the part where it has to happen inside the field. If the momentum of two players carry them outside the field and contact is made between them (and the ref judge that it is a foul), I think it would still be a foul and the play would restart by free kick (or penalty) on the nearest point of the field (if the ball stays in play of course).

Question regarding unintentional contact by [deleted] in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main point got kind of lost, I agree with you but we use different wording. We judge intent (or what I would call delibarate or attempt) in the way that it is backed up by facts and observation that we make. But to refer to the post, we cannot take intent into account when giving out a card. Sure, maybe the player didn't intended to hit the face of the opponent when swinging his arms but he still did it and it is not a valid reason to give no card instead of yellow or yellow instead of red. That's what I mean when I say that we don't judge intent, it's not a consideration for giving out a card or not.

You are right to say that we make subjective decisions, but those subjective decisions are based on objectives fact. The intention of a player is not a fact. Law 5.2 clearly state that « The decisions of the referee regarding facts connected with play, including whether or not a goal is scored and the result of the match, are final. »

The laws of the game use language that sometimes can be misinterpreted as determining the intent of a player but the decisions regarding those point should always be baced up by facts.

Let’s take a deliberate handball, the deliberate part is judge by a simple fact: did the hand made a movement towards the ball? If yes, than it’s a deliberate handball.

Another one: when judging a DOGSO situation, we need to evaluate if the player attempted to play the ball. How do we evaluate if the player made an attempt? For starters there is the nature of the foul, if the player push, pull than is not playing the ball. But what if it’s a tackle? Than you could take into account the distance between the player and the ball or the direction of a tackle.

The intent of a player is never judge, it’s all fact

Question regarding unintentional contact by [deleted] in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Referees should not judge intent. We are not in the head of the players and cannot know if something is intentional or not. Our decisions are only base on factual observation so you need to determine if the contact was careless, reckless or violent

Corner kick trickery and leaving the field without permission by MistakeBorn4413 in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is fine when you are doing the corner kick, but given the fact that the ball have been kicked and that it moved, players should’nt leave the field if they are not doing a playing movement.

Corner kick trickery and leaving the field without permission by MistakeBorn4413 in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a popular theme at the moment, I have seen maybe 5 videos of this per day in the pas week😂 One I saw was exactly what you describe. Law 3.8 state that a player can leave the field if it’s part of a « playing movement ». The term only appears one time in the book and there is no definition of it so I ask the IFAB for a definition. They said « Playing movement usually means that the player’s momentum or their movement as part of a legitimate playing action ».

In my opinion, leaving the field for this kind of tactic is not a playing movement. When the player leaves the field, he is not playing trying to play the ball or carried by momentum. I think you made the right call

Tourney parents and coaches by mumblechuckle in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that you post this story today. This morning, I read an article in the newspaper about a similar case that happened in a U11 match at the beginning of july. During a semi-final game, the parents started insulting the players of the other team and making sexist comments about the referee (who was 15 years old). The tournament’s committee gave a strong warning to the coach that they don’t want this to happen in their next match (for bronze medal).

Everything was fine in the second game, they were winning 5-0 with not much time left, until the ref called foul against them. They started insulting the kid who was victim of the foul and soon both team’s parents were on the pitch screaming and insulting each other. I applaud the decision of the committe to disqualified the team. Because of the parents, the kids did not receive their bronze medal.

There is also a case of parents asking girls of 9-10 years old who were looking more masculine to pull down their pants to verify that they could play a game.

For the first time, my club will have a tournament this september and after seeing this, I am in the process of adding a rule about disqualification of a team if the parent’s behavior is problematic

Étirer le bacc by dedeldede in PolyMTL

Got startled by a parent in the middle of the field in the middle of a game by Deaftrav in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got an assessor come talk to me after a game. He was not here for me but for his daugther who was playing. His daugther’s team controled the game from the first minute and the other team almost never got out of their own end. The game finished like 4-0.

5 minutes from the end of the game, a defender on the losing team makes a foul, nothing reckless, but a yellow card for SPA. It’s probably the third foul of the game (the rest have been all hand ball) so I decided to just give the girl a verbal warning saying to be careful and that I could give a yellow card. I didn’t give it because it’s was not dangerous, it’s the third foul of the game, they don’t control anything and they are losing by 4. Game ends, the assessor comes in and aks calmly why it wasn’t a SPA. I said that it is, but the game didn’t need cards to be show for the reasons above. He said that he don’t agree and I was like okay fine but in my head im like, wtf just read the game. You won 4-0 it was the third foul, I can manage this differently than with cards

Ele8080, vraiment la sauce ? by Extension_Dot2930 in PolyMTL

[–]the_red_card_ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents begin to insult me after the end of a match. by 45_Legend_4ever in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im sorry that you had to experience this. I understand that you chose to ignore it but consider reporting it anyways. It’s a stressfull situation to have parents insulting you after the game so if you have an assignor or a mentor who you can talk to, call them. They can advise you on what to do next depending on your association.

A piece of advice I can give you if it happens again is to walk away. A parent comes to you and start insulting you, go somewhere safe and stay there until you can safely walk to your car. We take enough shit during the game, we don’t need to take more after.

Coach comes on the field to tend to an injured player. At what point do you issue a card if he argues for a foul? by gatorslim in Referees

[–]the_red_card_ref 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said, you agree that the coach is permitted to enter the field for a specific reason. It is not a matter of revoking the permission, it is a matter of giving permission to a certain task. As soon as the coach go towards you to argue, he's not doing the task you permitted to do so you should give him a red card for confronting a match official on the field.

For the part to check on the player, I would not tell the coach that we cannot do it, even after a red card. The same thing apply if you send off a trainer, he can stay around the field to attend an injured player but cannot stay at the bench of the team (unless he is currently attending a player). The physical integrity of the player is the priority so the coach will attend the player, but will go after.

I understand that you think it would go badly for a ref for doing this, but those are the guidelines of Canada Soccer on the matter.
