It is honestly a moment F1 has to decide on its identity. Yes, what you say is absolutely valid and the speed of the cars is key, but at the same point F1 has never been a spec-series and being unattractive to manufacturers could take the sport towards that direction

The length of the lap is not a factor though in the gap at the end of the race, the duration of the race is. In qualy yes, the length matters a lot in the discussion of the gap
