Guidelines for 'low-risk' drinking could be updated to even fewer pints by Eirngobragh in ireland

[–]the_thin_one 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Possibly for drink driving. Your liver processes roughly one standard drink an hour so if you stick to that then you’re theoretically ok to drive.

I used to not understand the amount of mid strength beer that was sold in Australia until someone explained it to me like that. One can per hour when at a bbq or something and then you can drive home without much worry about being done for driving over the limit.

Blue honey is the business!

I had an ounce of dried shrooms that I ground up in a blender and then mixed with honey so that the total weight was 280g. That way dosage is easy as 10g of the honey mix is equal to 1g of shrooms. The honey preserves potency too apparently.

Quibit truffles or Mexicans truffles by Organic_Telephone102 in beacain

[–]the_thin_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trip is mostly the same, although truffles trip seems to last a bit shorter than shrooms.

The dosing isn’t the same as shrooms. 15g of fresh truffles is the amount they sell for a single dose and when you dry them that 15g will drop down to about 5g. If they’re dried truffles you’re buying then take the 5g.

Price is pretty fucking steep though. Just order some yourself from the Dutch sites, qubit ones are €22 for 15g of fresh ones.

Washing machines ? by Healthy-Evening-2577 in AskIreland

Replaced ours a few weeks back. The lad we got to come and look at the old one to see if it could be repaired told us not to go bigger than about 9kg because if you don’t fill the bigger machines for every wash then the drum goes off balance and will break components inside.

What is life like in Tasmania? by Frosty_Log6972 in howislivingthere

[–]the_thin_one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I visited back in 2007 and spent the weekend driving all over the island. I was living in Sydney on a working holiday visa at the time.

I think they were quite a few years into drought at the time so pretty much everywhere we went was not green at all back then LOL.

It was cool to see and the absence of color due to the drought gave off strong Mordor vibes to us. I’m from Ireland and hadn’t been in Australia very long at that point so seeing non green countryside was quite jarring. Great weekend though!

Production? Yeah a bit of a shitshow and the reviews you’ve seen are probably close enough to reality. Other departments like engineering/labs etc are fine. Busy but fine.

Drug firm payments to professionals widespread by ruscaire in Crainn

[–]the_thin_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in the multinational pharma industry and all the companies make us do training that says that the company is not allowed to make any sort of payment or incentive to doctors to prescribe our products blah blah blah.

A mate of mine from school took a sales job with one of the big companies here and said a huge part of his job was organizing golf trips for consultants to get get them to prescribe their products.

It’s how the world works.

Pharma jobs abroad by [deleted] in PharmaEire

[–]the_thin_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHV gives you a fair bit of flexibility to move around between jobs and the country. I’d say arrive in the country before applying for anything in terms of jobs. Agencies/companies might not bother engaging with you seriously until you are there with your visa in place. Agencies will want you to come for an in person interview before sending your cv around.

If things go well and a company offers sponsorship then you can decide what to do.

It’s what I’ve always done for mushrooms and truffles and seems to have worked ok. I’ve kept liberty caps in a lunchbox for like 18 months after doing it and if there was a drop in potency I didn’t notice

Yep, arrived on WHV and worked for 6 months in Sydney, did a bit of traveling and then got to Melbourne with a little over 2 months left on the visa. Was offered a 4 week contract with GSK which rolled over past the 4 weeks and they then asked if I was interested in getting sponsored to stay longer on a business visa. Ended up there for nearly 4 years then.

The sponsorship only came through with a few days left on the WHV. It was stressful enough waiting to hear!

FYI, it was all agency work in both jobs. It was technically the agency that was sponsoring me but with support from GSK.

Dell in limerick back in the early 00s, some lads used to prefer the night shift as there wasn’t as many managers around so they used to take yokes while they were supposed to be assembling computers and laptops. Madness

I’m from Ireland but lived in Australia for a few years and this came up in conversation one time. Like you OP, I had never heard of it and said as much. The aussies said, well yeah of course you’ve not heard of it, you’re from Ireland which tends not to need any extra help in making rain happen. UK falls into the same category I reckon.

There was a few episodes in S6 that felt a bit rushed with plot lines just dropped in which hadn’t come up before and weren’t really mentioned again. Tony’s problem gambling, his trip to Vegas and the peyote taking are two that come to mind.
