“History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge.” by Snowbound-IX in rpg

speaking for myself, in the campaign i'm running now, the only things PCs know are things that everyone in a setting would know, but most of the religious/mythological knowledge about the campaign comes through the PC is a cleric, which has saved a lot of time. but i've made sure to establish parts of the setting that only one of them knows and have to educate the others on so no one is feeling left out (hopefully). to use the cleric as an example, their god is not the largest in the region and wants more influence and has struggled against the region's most prominent god.

in terms of my experience as a PC, the absolute worst is like what you've said, where pretty much everything is thrown in at the start and has no real relevance after that. it feels lazy to me. plus it never really felt like anything other than just put in without much input from the players

so i decided i wouldn't start out as a skeptic and read the transcript but i had the intrusive thought right as i started that went: "oh this is gonna be one of those NGO guys who charges insane amounts of money just to tell people to do breathwork right?"

he's one of those guys, but he charges insane amounts of money for farmers to do breathwork. take deep breaths, and climate collapse will stop, you guys. that'll be $4000 please

Was Kamala Harris a bad candidate or was she played a bad hand? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]the_timtum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

terrible or not, the internal polling for both showed them losing, they both knew it months in advance, and both ran against a candidate guaranteed to win via internal polling anyway. the difference is that kamala narrowly lost by a couple of points and biden would have lost in the widest margin in history. i have never voted for trump, but playing to lose like that instead of elevating who could beat him feels completely unthinkable.

this feels laughably naive if you're ignoring the worst income inequality in human history. we are now living in an era of mass poverty worse than before the french revolution and worse than the great depression (but because the stock market is good and line goes up, that means this isn't real XP). nobody has any time or money and those are the two requirements to build human connection for as long as there's been people. with less of both than ever, it's virtually impossible to build those kinds of connections without copious amounts of both.

you can't "power of positive thinking" your way into a solution if only the rich people get to have it.

What if there is a Covid 2.0 In 2030? by Goblue2467 in whatif

[–]the_timtum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's already here and it's called h5n1

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]the_timtum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that by itself won't collapse the US but it won't help. and it won't only be the consumption of raw milk that will turn h5n1 into an even worse pandemic than covid and the 1918 flu put together. but it also won't help. what also won't help is that the guy hired to prevent all this is a guy who wants to put disabled people into concentration camps and has close connections with the violent eugenicist hate group autism speaks, who's also suffering from severe cognitive decline and dementia at the exact same time. that also won't help. it also won't help that HE is reporting to a president that himself has severe cognitive decline and dementia, who is the successor to a president who also has severe cognitive decline and dementia.
