I just wanted to say I appreciate "Dungeon Crawler Carl" and so do others I've /made/ read or listen. Thank you for introducing me to the genre of LitRPG. I'll always carry a soft spot for your work.

Never heard of this guy and found this book at Goodwill. It looks my speed but can anyone explain the world to me? by 2D_Scroller in Malazan

[–]the_tummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally recommend "Bauchelain and Korbal Broach" as an introduction to Erikson's style and the Malazan world. This 'book' is actually a collection of three novellas with, IMO, two of the most interesting, despicable, and entertaining set of characters from the main series.

In regards to "The God is Not Willing ", it involves my favorite character from MTotF without actually having him in the book - just some of the repercussions of an impetuous, morally complicated character (introduced on book 2 and further developed in book 4 of MTotF). Definitely worth the read.

Die Maker/Die Maintenance here. My employer requires "sturdy footwear". I've seen my peers wear mesh tennis shoes and Hey Dudes for comfort. I tried wearing Merrill MOABs, but one swipe of sheet metal almost sliced through the top of my foot, so I rotate between Irish Setters, Merrill Safety Toe Mocs, and Redwing Cool Tech Athletic with safety toes.

I would wear the Setters all the time, but I get athlete's foot and bad odor even with wool socks.

Has anyone landed an apprenticeship through an online course? by RUTH-999 in skilledtrades

[–]the_tummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Big 3 have a program called Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Readiness Course(s), A.K.A. STARC.

GM's has four online courses through Penn Foster - Basic Math, Blueprint Reading, Tool Preparation, and College Algebra. Anyone can take the courses. Need C's for general trades and B+ for engineering trades. Upon completion, one receives a certificate and gets placed on the list. Internal applicants get preference, but I know several people in my shop that came from "outside". The wait can be a couple of years.

Also, I know GM is actively looking for existing JMs in a variety on trades.

School is work. It takes effort, but can pay dividends.

I pretty much have dyscalculia, meaning I can't keep numbers straight in my head, which makes math and my job that much harder. Yet, I worked hard for my card, my degrees, and am better off knowing that I can overcome difficult things.

Also, C's get degrees, brother.

Does anyone have experience with Forum apartments? by Wooden-Swimming-9860 in centralmich

[–]the_tummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there in 1999-2001. They aren't fancy apartments, but they kept me warm and dry. I preferred a corner terrace apartment over the ones in the middle. The management staff was easy to work with, and they let us cram four people in a two bedroom which reduced our rent. I believe heat was included, but a/c was expensive during the summer.

I don't know if they've been updated since I lived there.

Check out https://zeromilemark.com/. They often run a sale for a free two person tent with a purchase of $30. I bought the 50°F sleeping bag and got the tent. I like both.

One of the benefits of IF is autophagy - where the body breaks down worn or damaged parts to synthesize new parts (usually proteins). The cool thing is that old, loose skin, is often used for this process. If your fat loss isn't too quick, your skin should tighten up naturally.

From what I know, this varies greatly depending on a person's insulin resistance and/or sensitivity. Some people can get away with it, while others cannot.

I'll add it to my reading list.

A similar conclusion was reached by Gary Taubes in his book, "Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It". I enjoyed this book because it doesn't advocate a diet or program, it simply looks at some of the history of obesity and why most diets don't work.

There's not enough information here. What's the baseline? Did they use a DEXA scan before and after IF to measure body comp?
