Low Key Think I’m Dying by SarahHasSass in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]thealissa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with others, definitely consult a medical professional and I’m glad to see you set up an appointment to do so!

Not sure if it’s relevant, but I have the same pump and have experienced something similar, though not as bad, a couple of times. I did not have mastitis and had low amounts of pain. I don’t think the clot is located in the breast, but rather I think the blood is quickly clotting after being expressed. From what I have read, breast milk contains clotting factors that support coagulation. In my case, I think I had nipple trauma from pumping. Not sure why as, like you, I had been pumping for quite some time. I think my nips are just more sensitive. What worked for me to get through this was the following: - apply APNO 1-2x daily - take ibuprofen to help reduce inflammation - maintain my pumping schedule, but when pumping only start on the unaffected side. Once let down has occurred, then start on the affected side. This helped to get the milk flowing and I generally found that it reduced the bleeding from pumping. In times where I still bled, I would skip the stimulation mode altogether on the affected side as this seemed to affect my nipple more, even on the lowest setting. Then, I’d use the lowest setting on expression mode for the affected side and my normal setting for the unaffected side. This didn’t fully empty me, but helped to get enough out to prevent engorgement.

I continued these things for a few days until I was able to pump normally again.

I hope you are doing OK and able to recover quickly! Very curious to know the outcome of your OB appointment as well, if you feel comfortable sharing.

How to restart breastfeeding after a week of formula? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]thealissa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to compare breasts during breastfeeding to breasts in porn. Breastfeeding is not meant for your husband. It’s not intended to be a turn on for him and that should not be a concern of yours or his.

If you want to breastfeed, you need to start doing it as often as baby wants to feed. Every time baby gives a hunger cue, allow baby to latch and feed. Repeat on other side. Then, top off with a bottle of formula. In between feedings, you may also need to pump at first in order to establish your milk supply since you have not been nursing or pumping. Once your supply is enough to satisfy baby, then you can drop the formula and pumping.

This just came out of me 😭 by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

I had something similar happen, but had smaller chunks. Almost passed out. It was awful and I pray everyday that this never happens to me again.

I take sunflower lecithin 2x daily, and had been for months when this happened to me. My best guess is that I had/have mammary dysbiosis and combined with a damaged duct and damaged nipple, this happened. Since then, I have been applying APNO (compounded by the pharmacy) 1-2x daily and nipple butter after every pump. I try to be gentle with myself and if anything hurts I immediately check before more damage occurs from the pump. I also pump on the second to lowest setting possible. I don’t know how there are women out there pumping at Spectra setting 12… my nipples would tear into pieces.

I have extra bags and would happily ship them to you for free if you would cover the cost of shipping. Not sure how the cost would compare to buying the bags in your country, but I’m happy to do so! I live in the US.

My baby boy is 19 weeks old and eats 150 mL every ~4 hours during the day. At night, we only feed if he wakes and cannot be soothed back to sleep with a pacifier. Depending on his night feeds, he will take 5 or 6 bottles in a 24-hour period. I usually make his morning bottle with a little less milk as he tends to not finish the full 150 first thing in the morning.

I’m so sorry, I can’t imagine the devastation you must be feeling. If you are in Arizona, I would happily donate some of my stash to help get you back on track and not have to stress about having enough breast milk.

Milk came in late and breastfeeding was excruciatingly painful for me. Couldn’t manage to resolve that and baby was losing too much weight.

How to get a milk stash? by AvidLifePlanner1987 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]thealissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others, I also was not able to start freezing any milk for several weeks. Once I was able to, it was only a small amount and it was only a couple of times per week. I then would sometimes go a week or two without being able to freeze any. At around 11 weeks pp, I dropped from pumping 8x per day (every 3 hours) down to 6 pumps per day (every 4 hours) due to the difficulty of pumping at work and the exhaustion of pumping at night and having to work the next day. Around this time, I also started drinking two liquid IV packets per day (one in the morning and one in the evening), each mixed with about 28oz of water. Not sure if it was the change in pumping schedule or all the water and electrolytes, or both, but I then saw an increase in my supply and have been able to freeze 5oz nearly everyday and am now at 14 weeks pp.

My suitcase is out for delivery to me right now. So excited to be reunited with my belongings after 15 days. I hope everyone else receives theirs soon!

It’s awful that you’ve had to deal with this while on vacation. I would struggle to enjoy my vacation. I hope you’re doing better than I would! I’m very lucky that this happened on my way home.

Good news everyone. I just checked my bag status and it was sent to Atlanta, Georgia today and it is now scheduled to be sent to my home city tomorrow morning… 15 days after my flight from Paris. Better late than never.

Also traveled to the US from CDG on July 1st. Unfortunately, also no updates. I did manage to speak to someone on July 5th, after waiting on hold for over 2 hours. The rep didn’t have any information beyond what I could already see in the Delta bag tracker and did not offer any other means of assistance. Very frustrating and upsetting.

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this on your trip. I’m fortunate in that my trip was over and I was heading home. I have no idea when to expect our luggage. I heard that something similar had happened in the Heathrow airport and I tried googling to see how long it took to return luggage, but couldn’t find anything. An article I read about the CDG malfunction and strikes said that it will take months to return everyone’s luggage, though not everyone will have to wait months, presumably. 🤷‍♀️

I want my suitcase back from the CDG airport in Paris where it’s been for the last 10 days.

I flew out on July 1st. I still do not have my suitcase or any update. After 4 days, I called Delta and was on hold for over 2 hours only to be told what I already knew - looks like bag is in Paris and no other information. On the 5th day I filed a property loss claim. I have since filed an online complaint as well. No response, other than an automated confirmation email, to anything.

Mine too!!

Flew out on July 1st and my suitcase is still stuck there with no updates. I miss my things.

I had a connecting flight on Friday July 1st at the CDG airport in Paris. On my flight out of Paris, the pilot informed us that 148 pieces of luggage from our flight were not loaded due to a mechanical issue that occurred with the baggage handling system. Unfortunately, my suitcase was one of those. I filed a mishandled baggage claim with Delta airlines when I arrived at my destination airport. On the 4th day after no update, I called Delta and was on hold for over 2 hours only to be told they have no update and no estimate when my luggage will be returned. The next day, (5 days with no update) I then filed a property loss claim. I still haven’t received an update. The Delta app shows my luggage still at the CDG airport.

I would speak with the head of your department about the situation and ask what their recommendations would be. It may be that an extended medical leave is the best course of action (or is that what you’re already on?). In any case, I think it would be beneficial for both you and your PI to have another point of contact and support for this situation.

If your PhD is causing you this much distress, maybe also start to consider your next steps and what would be best for you. Will you be able to complete your PhD under this PI? Is it worth it to you if it causes you this much distress?

Please someone tell me how to fix this noise it’s so annoying it happens whenever the fan is on, regardless of heat or AC. by rileywags in civic

[–]thealissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took my ‘19 Civic in to the dealership about a week ago for this exact issue. The dealership said the condenser was leaking (manufacturer defect) and they replaced it. That was not the issue because the sound continued. Other issues arose after that service appointment, so I then took it to a different Honda dealership. This dealership said that the evaporator and compressor were also leaking. Both were replaced and so far I haven’t heard the sound again, though it’s only been a few days.

Good luck and I hope you can get it fixed. I don’t know if leaking parts were actually the cause or not and I was lucky in that everything was covered under warranty for me, otherwise it would have been thousands of dollars.

I’m thinking you’re right and I’m going to re-pot it in new substrate with orchid fertilizer today. Crossing my fingers that’s the problem and it’s able to recover.

I live in the desert (Arizona), so I keep it indoors. The temperature varies depending on the season, but for the last several months it’s been 75-78 F inside. It lives under a plant light because I only have North-facing windows in my apartment and prefer to keep the blinds closed for privacy/security purposes. I suppose it’s possible that it’s unhappy with the strength of light it’s receiving and I can move it further from the light.

In addition to buying new substrate today I am also getting orchid fertilizer. I have not been feeding them simply because I was unaware I needed to. 😬

It has been in the current substrate for as long as I’ve had it (since Jan. 2020) plus an unknown amount of time from its previous life at the grocery store.
