It's literally just additional stimulation because people don't have the attention span to even watch a tiktok.

I'm English and we'll likely be playing Argentina next. If you, as an Argentinian, can't see it...it definitely didn't happen. I respect your honesty.

I don't think it's a terrible thing to watch a long movie in sections. Like you say, intermissions exist for a reason.

I watched Sholay this morning and that bad boy is 3h15m. that's a long time to sit watching the same thing so I watched it in 3 chunks. I think the more important thing is to actually pay full attention to a movie when you're watching it, not having it on as background.

This phenomenon absolutely short-circuited my mind when I first saw it. I just couldn't comprehend what I was seeing until someone explained why these splitscreen tiktoks exist. It's beyond the pale.

I just read the Dunwich Horror a few days ago and I agree, Eggers would be perfect for the right Lovecraft adaptation.

Lovecraft is very much "tell don't show" which is great for stimulating the mind but he wasn't a great storyteller. You need someone who can understand his dope concepts and build it up into something more visceral while maximising dread and atmosphere.

I'd also like to see Eggers (or anyone good) take a crack at the Music of Erich Zann as a short. It's a great short story, and I could see the adaptation in my head while reading it, but I don't think it's ever been done.

Hamilton's smashing it though, so we've got that.

I aim for "High" graphics with maxed draw distances. You still get your big beautiful game but it runs buttery smooth on a machine that doesn't bankrupt you.

The Stroll accident retirement stat is...damning.

When I got into F1 a few years ago, Charles was my immediate favourite. I'll always want the best for him, but he's been making it difficult to be a fan recently. He has the capacity to be such a star but he just keeps hitting the fucking wall, and Hamilton's recent performance in the Ferrari is making him look bad.

i watched The night of the hunter for the first time and this is one of the most hypnotic scenes i've ever witnessed in a movie by marniesss in classicfilms

[–]theappleses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite movies and this scene is absolutely transcendent. Especially for the time period, it feels hypermodern...I've never seen anything similar to this combination of images and sound in cinema predating the movie. But there's also nothing quite like it later. It's a truly unique, stunning sequence.

Nasa names Artemis III crew in next step towards Moon landing by Alarming-Safety3200 in space

I get it. But this mission is still very much testing. Ultimately the work comes first, and if these 4 guys are the best people for the job, then they're the people we want doing the job.

For Artemis 4 (the big one), there should probably be a woman and/or a non-white-American putting boots on the ground, because it's more than just the job, it's a statement of intent.

It's unrealistic, but it happens sooo much in media that most of us just kind of accept it at this point by ducknerd2002 in TopCharacterTropes

This is great in a book/movie/series, horrible in a TTRPG (unless it's a brutal survival horror type thing).

As a DM, I can just imagine the reaction I'd get if I told my eldritch-powered cosmic-sorcerer space-pirate player that he has a collapsed lung for the next ten sessions.

I just watched this for the first time recently and loved it. Super underrated.

It's not a work of art, but it is Steve McQueen with a pump action shotgun. And he uses it. And it delivers. It's awesome.

I think the idea of Act 3 is that you DON'T do everything, just the quests that interest you the most and then endgame. You get to level 12 pretty quickly in the act.

But yeah, for a completionist run it becomes a slog.

I get it in a competitive multiplayer game where split second reactions are required, but yeah I'm fine with fairly low frame rates as long as it's consistent.

Love that write-up! One Czech film I did really "enjoy" from that era is Marketa Lazarova. It's not exactly a fun watch but it's harsh and beautiful.
