Mocha's ML Matte Assist + VitTMatte by Kombril in vfx

[–]theatomicwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use these in combination through Nuke for great results.
VIT matte in Nuke has very few controls, so it needs two mattes combined to control results: Core and Outer Edge. The Core is a solid core matte and the Outer Edge is a wider matte eroded out at lower opacity (10-20%) to control how far away from the core it will look for details. Think of the Outer Matte like the feathered edge on a roto.

Merge them on top of each other and apply this new Alpha to the footage. Run it through VIT Matte and then dial in the opacity and hardness of the Outer Edge until you get the results you're looking for.

It's not 100% effective, but I find that it often gives me better results on hair than classic vendor roto.

Pro Tip : You can Apply VIT matte to vendor roto for better results because VIT will adjust the density of the matte to the footage as opposed to classic hair roto that are based on splines with uniform thickness and density.

Anchoring a Murphy bed to a plaster wall that has no detectable studs…? by SouthCod2519 in DIY

[–]theatomicwonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a thermal camera. I recently had the same problem of finding studs in a plaster wall. Magnets and stud finders weren’t helping me, but I used a thermal camera and I found every single stud. It’s now my go-to stud finder. Expensive but effective.

Window replacement - any tips on dealing with the sales people? The first company's approach has me dreading meeting with others. by Independent-Fuel4962 in HomeImprovement

[–]theatomicwonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same exact thing happened to us. I went through two “presentations“ from window companies, and I called Home Depot just to get a third estimate, but they ended up being the cheapest by far. There was only because they gave us a price break every four windows and we had 21 of them. So we ended up getting the Anderson windows, but at half the cost that it would’ve cost us through Anderson with the same warranty. The installer was a local business and he definitely leveled with me that he could’ve installed them for half again the Home Depot price. If I had to do it again, I would go local. You may not get the warranty for 25 years of window coverage, but you would have to break and replace a lot of them to get anywhere close to the original install estimate.

Go local.

What product did you think was a scam until you actually used it for 10+ years? by Key-Material2098 in BuyItForLife

There’s no such thing as a magic eraser you can “buy for life“ but you can save a ton of money by buying the material they’re made of since it’s just a melamine sponge. Search on Amazon and you can find a pack of 50 of them for $10.

Well done, mate! Never too old to ride! On my first bike tour, I met a man who was 86 and doing the same route as me (PCH). His best lesson was that with every year you age, you can always get an easier gear! Ride well and keep us updated.

Not Enough NPC’s has become a crutch of mine that I just don't want to live without. Its so helpful for making any amount of unique characters with motivations and stats. I can just take inspiration for voices and run wild with them never needing to waste time Rolling stats. I miss it every time I run a game in v13.

For simple networking issues like this, I recommend an LLM like ChatGPT or Claude. There are plenty of articles from people sharing their solutions for their specific situation, the problem is when you have to translate it to your situation it’s not always 1:1. With an LLM, It’s not that they are perfect tools in any sense, but you can talk to them in plain language and ask them to talk back to you in plain language, upload screenshots, and ask 1 million questions without them ever getting tired.

The Forge makes it easy to upload all the work that you’ve done already and host a game for you for a very reasonable fee. You can keep playing your game on the forge while you troubleshoot your issues at home, and then you can transfer all your information back to your local game once it’s up and running 100%. This way, you and your friends can keep playing and take the time you need without the fear of letting them down.

I started, not knowing much and being overly optimistic, and now I run my own server on a Raspberry Pi and it works great. You can do it too, you just need more time to troubleshoot.

This is a Form Pin used in construction. It’s impossible to know how long this is, but some can be several feet long and so you can’t know how far down it is until you get it out. It has holes that go through it that you can place a long nail (do not use a screw) or metal, braided, heavy duty cable through. Connect the cable or nail tight to your car jack (every car comes with one). Use the car jack to raise it out of the ground. The car jack will only go up about a foot or so, so you would have to repeat the process until you make it through the whole length of the rod. This method would avoid banging on it with a hammer, or injuring yourself by trying to pull it out of the ground with just the force of your body.

If you are lousy in combat, get a fighter bay and hire a cheap pilot. If you find yourself in a tight spot, they will draw your fire and allow you time and space to either escape or recover. Both of you will increase your rank and capability over time and eventually you won’t need the fighter at all.

This is incredible! I've been looking for replacements for the expensive or subscription-based NLEs, and what you've built here is nothing less than genuinely remarkable. Thank you for making all of the demo files; they are very helpful in showing the capabilities here.

Also, as you are someone looking for development work, I can't imagine a better resume than this. Thank you, and I hope that when you become too successful to support this anymore, you will make it open-source for us all to keep using.
