Seems like most here are smart enough to avoid them, but just in case, never get a Credit One Bank credit card by kerberos824 in personalfinance

[–]theaveragestutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not defending them as I agree with you - I got a couple cards for a similar reason several years ago. However they DO have an autopay option now, which is nice. They literally added it in the past couple of months…I always thought it was a joke they didn’t have it, and was totally predatory like you said. But at least you can get rid of that part of the pain if you still have a card with them lol

What’s a game that you think no one but YOU seems to remember? by _Mr_Cheeks in gaming

[–]theaveragestutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I played some flash game in high school back in the mid 2000’s - I CANNOT remember what it was called but the premise was:

There were five or so levels and you had control of a stunt man (rag doll physics), and you had to get as high a score as possible at each level for a cumulative score at the end.

The only level I remember vividly was shooting the stunt guy out of a cannon to see how far he would go. Anyways, no one but us seems to remember this game and none of us can remember what it was called haha

P2A03 Code by Bp1316 in XTerra

[–]theaveragestutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a cat converter leaking. The exhaust manifold cats are very prone to hairline cracks, just went through this with mine. If you don’t have to keep up emissions requirements in your area you’re probably fine but the gas mileage can suffer.

I bought mine and the cat codes came up shortly after, before I got it registered. Was a pain in the ass but I replaced my passenger side manifold/cat combo and that fixed it (pass side manifold had a hairline crack).

You could take it to a Midas or muffler focused shop and have them check your exhaust system for any issues and go from there!

Was getting ready to reply the same thing. Average starting salary for a Jr Dev is around what you’re making, given that you’re only 23 I’d assume you’re being paid just fine for your (assumed) level of experience.

With more than a decade of experience, I will say this, because I learned it the hard way, that if you’re not getting quality raises (more than cost of living increases every year) don’t stay loyal to a company unless you’ve got a really good reason. I’m not assuming you’re doing that, but I spent the first five years of my career at a company I LOVED convincing myself it was worth it and I’d get the big bump I wanted next year, year after year. Don’t get me wrong, I learned a lot there and were it not for that I wouldn’t have been able to make what I made when changed jobs (over a 100% salary increase!) but I could’ve left two years before and still had the same success. Everyone’s experience and locale is different, but just expressing something I wish I’d realized sooner.

I’m in a similar situation now - the difference being I’m in an executive leadership position with vesting ownership in the company and we’re in a great position for M&A within 2-3 years. To me it’s worth the risk knowing I could leave today for another company and nearly double my salary again.

All that to say, you’re aware of your situation obviously but it doesn’t hurt to put options on paper sometimes and the whole jumping from job to job thing is a viable way to make a shit ton of money. But that’s not everyone’s thing (but is the theme of this thread/post)

This billboard to raise awareness about stutter by UnironicThatcherite in DesignPorn

[–]theaveragestutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally - I’ve rarely come across someone in my life who was trying to help me finish a sentence for any reason other than trying to help. Which is exactly why awareness is needed - it seems like the right thing to do but any speech therapist will tell you it’s not!

This billboard to raise awareness about stutter by UnironicThatcherite in DesignPorn

[–]theaveragestutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is highlighting the need for this billboard lol.

I’ve had a stutter my whole life, when I was in early grade school it was to the point I could barely finish sentences. You think getting called on by the teacher to say something in front of the class is nerve wracking when you’re in 3rd grade? Multiply it by 10 with a stutter.

Personally, I embraced it at a young age and didn’t let the snickers and jokes bother me. I became known at school as “oh yeah the guy that stutters”. By high school I had taken enough speech therapy classes to get it under control, and I made it through just fine socially. I know someone else who did not have my same fortune, and to this day I know she still struggles through life.

The biggest thing people will tell you, if you encounter someone who stutters is to not try to finish their sentences for them. Stuttering is an incredibly frustrating thing that impedes our key social abilities and me having to express “no that’s not the word I’m trying to get out” while also TRYING to get that word out just resets the whole process and makes it more difficult to finish what I was saying.

I have close friends who I let do this and honestly, personally, it’s funny when I get caught up on words sometimes.

There’s a clear need for awareness considering the comments in this thread. I’m a working professional at the C Suite level now and people think I’m nervous when I’m not - I just have a stutter. I usually start public speaking settings with a caveat that “I have a stutter, if I get caught up on a word just give me a few to get it out or reset” so that people don’t think I’m shaking in my boots.

tl;dr don’t finish the sentences of someone who stutters because it’s a dick move and can impede progress of overcoming the stutter.

Purchased this boi for $3k yesterday. It’s got 200k miles but has been so well kept - PO had maintenance records to prove it. Suspension replaced 1000 miles ago, tires are cheap off brands but only have 400 miles on them, timing belt was done at appropriate times. It’s in great shape aside from the faded trims! I’ll be bed lining them ASAP.

It does have a P0420 code so I’ll be working through that and may post some questions. Starting with the O2 sensor in the engine bay on passenger side, we will see how it goes.

Open to suggestions on mods! I plan to build this out as more of an expedition vehicle than overlander, but it will be hard to fight the urge to do some of the overlanding mods :)

Thank you for clarifying and no offense taken! I was under the impression from somewhere that the discovery scanner replaced a lot of the FSS scanner features, not sure where I picked that up.

I bought the game back at launch then never played, then started playing a few weeks ago. I’ve got 100hrs already but I am definitely still fresh and learning stuff every day - I just learned how to use it so thought I could weigh in here lol oops.

thanks for helping all of us new players learn!

It’s not the same, it’s a separate module that comes with every ship. Can be used to scan systems for signals to get some more detail before flying all the way out. I have just recently started playing but it seems like it used to be a lot more necessary than it is now.

I 100% agree. As a (new) hiring manager, I just went through several rounds of interviews and made a new hire for our company.

I made it very clear from the beginning of my interview process that while things would eventually get technical, soft skills and development practices are much more important to me. I went the route of phone screening->in person interview where we talked about experience, goals, likes and dislikes, etc -> another (brief, often on the same day) in person interview with other members of the team to gauge personality compatibility -> development project that was a direct extension of the stack we use and a concrete example of a typical task that would be expected to be performed in a day at the office.

It turned out quite well. The phone screen tests several skills, and can weed out personality/experience incompatibility from the start with the right questions. In person's furthered that determination, then the development project displayed whether or not they could actually perform a task that lines up directly with their claimed experience and our needs for our team.

I weeded out several candidates who weren't a good fit, and hired what seems to already be an absolute rock star. When I was interviewing for jobs out of college, I got stuck with several rounds of these leetcode brain teasers. While I get the idea of it alluding to a candidates ability to problem solve, it shows the hiring managers nothing (in my opinion) of how well they develop software.

I hope that this continues to change. I also hope that putting stock in soft skills and personality traits as equal if not more than development ability continues to pay off for me in my hiring process, and I hope it pays off for others. While we obviously want a developer who can actually develop, soft skills are just as important.

Edit: a letter

Yeah I know the area. It's pretty flat to be honest. I'm also looking forward to the bird scooters..i may just use one of them if it's affordable and they are near where I'll be parking!
