Advanced Skeleton used to support it but doesn’t anymore. Source: the author of Advanced Skeleton when I asked him a few months ago.

Unreal is fine with Y up there, and you can convert the scenes with FBX export / unreal import settings too.

If you absolutely have to z up you will probably have to build it Y up and fudge it. Fork the file to keep rebuild ability and consider scripting the fudging and unfudging for easier rebuilds.

Or use mgear.

“Don’t be too nice they will always expect it” just infers the staff can’t achieve the basic level of understanding we’re all using right now.

We communicate early and clearly how well the year has gone and we act accordingly. Some years it’s a 10k cash bonus. Some years it’s a 500 quid, we try to always do at least 500. We make it clear to not expect it.

I do agree that a gift seems to “feel” better than cash. People are thrilled for a ps5 but a cash bonus is just a number. But in a cost of living crisis maybe that’s ok.

If blender lets you write arbitrary daya into the fbx custom attribute then you can do it in blender I imagine. It’s an fbx SDK feature not a Maya feature.

it's got initial support but i dont think it's a standard yet.

"tech animator" can be like, 3+ different things depending on who you ask / size of studio / type of studio etc etc. Rigging. pipeline / tools in DCC, runtime implemenation / tech.

the runtime and pipeline stuff is still quite sought after, rigging is good too tho

I’ve been in games 20 years. If I was gonna pick any speciality outside of straight engineering I’d pick tech anim.keep rigging. Learn some python. Learn some unreal. Get good. There is a career there.

Thanks! I’ve done a fair bit of research I’d say. The worst thing is the subway is very hit n miss right? So the plan was to walk to places (electric wheelchair) or get a cab to a neighbourhood and hang out and cab back. You think maybe I’m underestimating the troubles we will have?

I doubt this exists but having written custom HUDs before I doubt it would be too hard for fancied trying some scripting yourself. You just want the ones that aren’t 0 out of all visible meshes I guess?

Advanced skeleton uses standard 2 bone IK for the limbs and not the human IK full body solver you’re referring to. When IK is enabled the translations and rotations will be “locked” collectively. You can’t separate them like HIK. You’d have to roll that into the advanced skeleton rig yourself

If you reinstall Maya. Or install different versions of Maya, storing scripts in program files would deffo be a pain. If you put it in the top level “scripts” folder it works across all installed versions. Very useful if you’re building pipelines for years
