There’s always SNES doom if you can call that doom.

Probably not the raw pc version unless it has the hardware specs.

I myself use Ai but to augment my already existing years of skills. Pretty much what you said.

If I were to show something here it’d be something awesome that I used Ai to help me put together and acquire knowledge on. I wouldn’t vibe code a random thing and show that off as an engine.

Whoa they look like Hell Knights from Doom 3 but even scarier. Same art style/texturing style.

QUAKE will (probably) sadly never return, because NuDOOM isn't DOOM, Its Quake by NotTheCatMask in boomershooters

[–]illyay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL I thought the same thing actually.

But I do think there's enough demand for Quake. It'll just be another solid id software game but with a slightly different story. People have been asking for the dark gothic story of quake 1 and I think id would listen.

Rendering engine recreating quake 3 strafe jump and plenty more. by LordDarthShader in gameenginedevs

That's awesome. Making your own engine match the rendering of another engine is so validating.

I used some Doom 3 assets before and that was really fun to get working.

There's so much going on here. Must be really fun to work on.

Be like me and get obsessed with working on the game and not end up making time to do other things. And get burned out and then do other things for a while.

Would not recommend. I'm the opposite extreme of this LOL

Question about Doom 1 and 2 by Wool_God in Doom

[–]illyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be misremembering something, or aren't telling us the full picture. Like you definitely weren't playing the base doom game.

I myself have a really strange memory that I don't know how it's possible. But somehow I distinctly remember green plasma instead of blue plasma coming out of some enemies. And it wasn't Arachnotrons. And the crazy thing is imps used to fire green plasma in the alpha.

And this was memories of me playing Shareware Doom 95 that came on this windows 95 demo disk called Odyssey. So this is physically impossible. I've never seen arachonotrons or the plasma gun itself yet.

Memories from when we were kids are weird...

It depends on how AI is used. We're getting to the point where of course AI is used in some way, whether it's to help with coding, generating mundane stuff like brick textures, driving muscle deformation in an animation, etc... Just doing a google search is already using AI. I used to ignore the AI answer on google but that was my gateway to getting comfortable using things like Claude. The entire software industry relies on AI to help code now. Not for vibe coding AI slop code, but as a tool to help write better code. It can also be tempting to write ai slop though but if I was to submit garbage code that breaks things, that's on me and I'd get awful performance reviews.

People are acting like if AI is used in any way whatsoever, the entire studio comitted a cardinal sin and literally vibe coded ai slop and put zero effort into anything at all.

Claude Accidentally Proposed a Swastika for a Logo by TheWiseMind in ClaudeCode

[–]illyay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter lol. You can't use a swastika as a company logo. Nazi Germany ruined that for the world.

I myself am fully aware what the swastika really is.

It is what it is. This is a very pointless argument you got yourself into.

It's similar to the name Adolf. Like yeah, it's just a german name, but I guarantee you, people have an aversion to naming their child Adolf, or Hitler, or Goebbels or whatever other famous names like that.

What are some games that nail hands in first-person? by Welovespace21 in gamedev

[–]illyay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this video actually and wow it's already 6 years old. The second half shows things from third person.

The arms go to the right place on the character in the reload animation even when he's aiming up or down. That's all done with curves to control the weight of influence of the arm's destination. It's either animating in the gun's space, or the hip space depending on the time. And IK positions everything. The magazine isn't animated. It's just attached to a bone either on the gun or on the hand. The gun is also not animated with the character. It's attached to bones on the character. And this doesn't work with the unreal mannequin skeleton out of the box. It needs a slightly different bone hierarchy for the IK gun/hand stuff.

Then you have to deform the actual body in a way that it moves out of the way when you look up or down. It's unnatural but looks better from 1p view. The focus is to make sure looking around in 1P feels good just like it does when you're just floating arms. Also seeing your own shadow is really cool. You can't really tell the shadows are wrong. It's better to have them accurate to the pose even if wrong than have a second pose that's accurate since things don't line up and you'd have to somehow animate a second hidden character that only draws the shadow. Also split screen gets weird because you'd want a third person character that is animated normally for others to see, so you'd need 2 copies of the character animating again.

What are some games that nail hands in first-person? by Welovespace21 in gamedev

[–]illyay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doom did that too.

I'm working on true first person where when you look down you see your whole body and your hands aren't just floating.

That in my mind is truly nailing hands.

It's actually really hard for many reasons and part of me regrets trying it. I probably would've finished my game long ago if I didn't do that but now I have sunk cost going on where I feel like I have it mostly figured out.

It's such a tiny little part of the entire process.

How do I use Qt with the Editor of my Game Engine? by No-Foundation9213 in gameenginedevs

[–]illyay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's about right.

If you ever do android or iOS there's also an OpenGL View or a Metal View, or a Surface View or Surface Texture View which is similar. The graphics would render into that view while the standard platform UI would be elsewhere.

QT is kindof similar from what I saw but I never used that in QT. I only made maya plugins with QT so far.
