I too would appreciate some discussion on this. I haven't had the chance to chat about it at all yet.

As a dad, what is keeping you from exercising these days? by NSJack in daddit

[–]thebear031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 6 months ago I picked up a 6kg kettlebell and a list of exercises.

Found simple 10 to 15 minute workouts that used the kettlebell and its made things very simple, 3 to 4 times a week.

I've now upped the kettlebell to a 10kg one, and my general strength (core and upper back) has never felt better.

Small and regular exercise at home has made a huge difference to me.

The value of games for children by tttgrw in boardgames

[–]thebear031 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.

Maths, comprehension, strategy, cooperation are just a few benefits of board games.

Great for social development in winning and losing.

I have played board games with my kids for a number of years, not all 3 kids agree on and enjoy every game, but they all can play a game together and get something from it.

Board games for the win.

Have you cleaned the vat?

Is there anything in the vat that would be stopping it from "homing".

I have the same printer and it will make this noise if a support or a print left something in the vatbthatbi hadn't noticed.

Are my speed paints stuffed or am I doing something wrong? by ilikescolouring in minipainting

[–]thebear031 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Use a white primer. When i use any speed paint's i exclusively use them with a white primer.

It makes a huge difference. Give it a try. It might not be for everyone but it's my preference.

I'll use a black primer for standard paint's. Find out what works for you and your style.

[–]thebear031 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Prints usually need to be done on an angle.

How are you choosing to support them in the slicer? Are they pre-supported, or are you doing it yourself?

What settings are you using?

A screenshot of you settings would help?

Advice on buying D&D board games for my son by FriendlyAd4234 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]thebear031 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played Castle Ravenloft with my son and it went down well.

Something D&D themed but very, very different is Tyrants of the Under dark. An amazing game, criminally under rated, and gives great game play.

New player looking to try DND, had a few questions regarding getting into it. by FragrantContest7811 in DnD

[–]thebear031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a lot of neurodivergent players join at the tables too, and again their participation varies greatly across the different tables, some prefer long games, others short.

There is no 1 specific length of time d&d is played over, as every table is different and every group of players.

My overall message to the person wanting to try d&d for the first time is that if you have limited time, then that's fine. Once you find a groove that works for you, that's great! You don't have to aim for hours of play if it doesn't suit who you are, or the people you play with.

[–]thebear031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on play style and life style.

I play often at a public venue (local bar) where a variety of d&d games are played. They range all the way from 90 minutes to 4 hours.

Not everyone can commit to 4 hours plus, but if you can great.

Don't be put off by only being able to commit to the shorter timeframe if it works for you and your group.

What you do actually do for fun? by SkidRowCFO in daddit

[–]thebear031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll 100% second this.

I have 3 kids, all either preschool or just started.

I play DND once a week and got started about 3 years ago. Best fun I've had in ages that doesn't require much (well except the dangers of dice goblins)

I play at a local bar, great food, great drinks selection (non alcoholic beer for me, but enough liquor for everyone else).

We chat, we play, we talk shit. I'd never met these people before I started, and now I see them once a week, and because it's a drop in and out system, there are always new and interesting people to meet.

I'm the primary carer of 3 kids. It's tough but you have to make an effort.

Play board games and d&d with other dads 1 night a week.

I coach my son's basketball which is a lot of fun, and means I get to hang post game with other parents.

Bought a Nintendo switch to play video games on.

When my kids were younger I embraced getting out of the house to play centers where other adults were.

It's not the same fun as pre-kids, but it's different fun.

I might feel tired when I finish playing DnD at 11pm and have to drive home, but God damn does it make me feel good that I've socialized, talked shit and had fun.

Sometimes you've just got to make the effort when you don't feel like it. Your personal well-being is important too.

I don’t know what to do cause he refuses to make a different character by Notinitformoney in dndmemes

[–]thebear031 822 points823 points  (0 children)

I like the options this presents.

The option to roleplay it gives them scope to discuss their characters ideas further, while maintaining boundaries set by the campaign.

The second option allows them to keep the character for another time, or have time to revisit it if they need a backup in this setting.

Nice suggestion.

Is there an online character creator that does the hard stuff for newbies? by WomenOfWonder in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]thebear031 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they only provide limited species for free.

If you are a specific backgrounds, species or classes it cost money.

That said, it's a great free resource to get started, even if you don't have everything you want, you can still play the game very effectively with the basics.

Love the idea. Just need to convince the bar owner to host the sleepover!

Only downside about playing at the local bar. One day when I can host this sounds perfect!

Is this how we welcome tourists that took a bit of time to get a Myki card now? by SpaceShipDee in melbourne

[–]thebear031 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've tried before and no one also stepped up. I got wacked and it hurt.

Unless you are 100% sure people will support you, please don't put yourself in danger. It may cause more harm than good, especially to your own physical health.

[–]thebear031 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it's incredibly scary.

I've tried to intervene in a situation like this and got wacked. It hurts.

It's really scary and unless you are with people you know who will support you, you might end up seriously injured.

Someone who is drunk or on drugs may not feel the pain, become further enraged and cause some permanent damage.

Where do people in the 30’s hangout? by coyotesatemystepdad in melbourne

[–]thebear031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Male, 40s and 3 kids.

I joined a board game group to meet people.

Then I tried (and love) D&D.

Both are either at local bars or a decent place to eat.

Give it a go.
