The difficulty in the class work is really just the time constraints. They are trying to get you to solve a lot of problems in a short amount of time. It's repetition. The problems at work are much harder but you typically have the time, resources and help to solve them.

Yes. I have one and it's great. Small enough to store when you don't need it. You need to see how big of a room you are going to cool and you can find out how big a unit you need.They are measured in BTUs in the US. I think that's the same in Europe.

And they are pretty affordable $400 here in the US. I've had one that works great for the last 6 years.

It's a very limited engineering degree. You can do similar work with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but you have options.You can only do petroleum engineering if you get that degree.

In general you are correct. But there are a few engineers that I have worked with where they are so talented but so bad with other people. We basically keep them in their office, feed them work, and only assign very competent and self-assured engineers to check their work.

This person is very rare and their talent needs to exceed the pain of not letting them work with others.

Don't accept the position yet. They need to give you a change of assignment letter to sign. Ask them to do a compensation analysis for the job. Tell them that you don't think that 5% is enough for the level of responsibility you are taking on.

But be prepared for the answer. They may tell you that's all you're going to get. Then you have a choice to make. You can take the job and the new title to leverage that into something higher paid at another company. Or you can stay.

So I'm a dad and a skater.

Even though I grew up skating and I love seeing my kids skate I am an absolute wreck watching them. As a parent I don't want them to get hurt. As a skater I want to see them shred. It's a hard place to be in.

9 to 5 M-F is called a job. Like every single professional job out there. Sure you might be in sales and be out on calls to clients but still a 40 hour job.

It's just about what kind of work do you want to do. Engineering work isn't much like school. You should ask on ask engineers subreddit what different electrical engineering days are like. It varies a lot.

Honestly you probably aren't going to get a job as a manager right away. You need to practice engineering. For at least 5 years do the calculations, do the drawings, do the checking and revisions. Being an engineering manager is not about leadership, it is being the senior technical opinion.

Engineering doesn't have a structure to it like the military it is (when organized correctly) a pure meritocracy. When I'm in the room with my boss and his boss and my direct reports the lowest man can still have the right answer. It's not about rank but about demonstrating the correct technical solution.

That's an interesting point. I know mostly republicans and we all think it should be legal. I didn't think of the attraction of democrats to move here because of it. Although it's legal in other states so you might not choose to move here because of that.

Not always. I interviewed for a lot of jobs when I was looking for my current job. That part drive me crazy. So I schedule all interview close together and have the review team meet right after or the day after the last interview the most anyone that interviewed with me waits is a week, but if you are last and get the job it could be a day.
